School district eyes staff cuts BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

The Corinth School District will trim an unspecified number of staff members for the 20172018 school year as a result of state budget cuts and possible federal cuts. The board of trustees ap-

proved personnel in a special meeting on Tuesday for the three campuses and central office for 2017-2018. “When we’re facing these types of cuts, you’ve got to look at where you can cut costs,” Superintendent Lee Childress said after the meeting. “You can

cut costs through personnel, and you can cut costs through operations. There are going to have to be some staff reductions as a result of this. Also, we know we have had fewer students pre-register for pre-K and Please see CUTS | 2A

Rebel Road Trip rolls through BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

Hundreds of Rebel faithful gathered Monday night as the Rebel Road Trip rolled into Corinth. It was the group’s fourth stop on their sixth annual tour presented by BancorpSouth. Corinth has been featured every year, with a stop hosted by the local TriState Rebel Club, since the University of Mississippi began the town hall style meetings. In town was head football Coach Hugh Freeze, Athletics Director Ross Bjork and Chancellor Jeffrey Vitter, who opened the event by highlight-

ing some university achievements in student athlete academics. “It is a great time overall to be an Ole Miss Rebel. Our athletics department is our front porch of our university and we could not have a better looking front porch,” said Vitter. “Our athletics captures the hearts and passions of people around the country and that brings them to the campus so they can see the full richest of what our great flagship university offers.” The chancellor bragged about Ole Miss student athletes getting the all-time highest grade point average last

year, the group’s 81 percent graduation rate which is higher than the national student athlete graduation rate and the 72 student athletes who made the SEC Academic Honor Roll. He also highlighted the eight Ole Miss Rebels who participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. “Most people know Rebel Sam Kendricks won the bronze metal in pole vault,” said Vitter. “What some people may not remember is he forfeited his last practice run because in the middle of the run he heard the national anthem
