City denies mobile home request BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
The Corinth Board of Aldermen continued a firm stance against allowing mobile homes to locate in the city as a variance request came before the latest session of the board. John Owens sought a zoning variance to allow a mobile home to be placed on prop-
erty of about 13 acres in an R-2 residential district at or about 3203 Glover Drive. The area is near U.S. Highway 45 and the Gospel Tabernacle Church and is at the dead end of the road. The city’s board of adjustment recommended approval of the variance, contingent upon the mobile home being at least 300 feet from the highway right-of-
way and obscured from view by trees. The request died when Ward 4 Alderman J.C. Hill’s motion to grant the variance failed to get a second from another member of the board. Several aldermen voiced objection based on the inability of

have big news. The local event that raises funds for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive match funds this year from a special St. Jude donor. More than $12,000 was donated to the Memphis hospital in 2016 on behalf of the local tournament. For 2017, organiz-
ers have set a $15,000 goal with hopes of reaching it and receiving the match funds. “With the match funds, we could raise $30,000 for St. Jude this year,” said tournament Chairman Dr. Robert Perry. “That would be amazing.”

People of the Crossroads Seresa Houston, Corinth Corinth native Seresa Houston has been a nurse for 30 years. “It was a calling for me,” said Houston. “Over the years, I think my patients have been more of a blessing to me than I have to them. If I had to do it all over again, I’d still be a nurse.” Houston works for Magnolia Regional Health Center and most recently took a position as a Surgical/Clinical Reviewer in the Department of Continuous Improvement. She and her husband, Jay Houston, are members at Falcon Baptist Church in Selmer, Tenn., where he is a pastor. They have been married almost 32 years and have three children, Josh, Leah and Ben. When not at work, Houston said one of her favorite things to do is work in her yard. “The best therapy is digging in the dirt,” she said.
biggest ever. Best part is we get to help out Pine Vale in the process.” The cruise in’s registration fee is $15. McGill said the dealership will also offer door prizes during the event. “We’ve had a lot of community support this year which has been great,” she added. “We’ve had several local businesses donate gift cards, tools and more towards the raffle. It’s wonderful to live in a community where local businesses support other local businesses.” (For information, contact McGill at 662-287-3184.
