The final escapee at large from the Prentiss County Jail was arrested Monday afternoon in Alcorn County. John Michael Brown was arrested without incident on County Road 174 by US Marshals and troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, said Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar. Information was developed Sunday indicating Brown was in the area riding a motorcycle and leads were developed that led to his capture on Monday. Brown, David Joe Glasco and Mark Lindsey escaped last Thursday morning from the Prentiss County Jail. Lindsey was captured Thursday afternoon in Colbert County, Ala. where he and the other two escapees were spotted in a truck they had stolen from a Prentiss County residence. The truck was recovered in the edge of Alabama, north of US. Highway 72 near Riverton Rose Trail. Glasco was captured early Saturday in Colbert County, following two days of intense searching by numerous Alabama law enforcement agencies searching on foot, ATV and using helicopters. Lindsey was being held in the Prentiss County Jail on a burglary charge, Brown on a charge

Crossroads Regional Park’s expansion was officially christened on Monday. City and county leaders gathered for a ribbon cutting at the center of the new 5-Plex, a large circular area that encompasses the park’s five baseball/softball fields located just off Droke Road. “It’s been a long journey to get to this point,” said Butch Carmichiel with the CorinthAlcorn Parks and Recreation

BY ZACK STEEN Alcorn County schools may be out, but students can still get healthy meals throughout the summer. The Alcorn School District Food Service Department is hosting the 2017 Summer Meals Program in June. Alcorn County children 18 and younger can receive free breakfast and lunch at no cost this month when they visit the Kossuth, Biggersville and Alcorn Central elementary school cafeterias. “In the Alcorn School District, many students are involved in the free and reduced-price school lunches and breakfasts,” said Child Nutrition Director Peggie Bundy. “When school is out for the summer, those children do not receive this benefit. The Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is struggling with roof problems. Director Charlotte Doehner reported during Monday’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors that shelter workers on Memorial Day arrived to find part of the ceiling in the laundry area had fallen, even though it wasn’t wet. “Over the past four years, we’ve had a lot of roof leaks,” she said. It appears the old plaster dropped from the ceiling as the result of becoming wet on prior occasions. After a roofer recently looked at the building, the board is recommending a temporary fix using fiber cement. The roof of the old Proper Street building has three layers of shingles that will need to be removed before replacement with a new roof. The county will consider making an insurance claim. It is estimated a new roof and repairs could cost as much as $20,000. In other business: • Upcoming appointments to boards and commissions include the seat currently held by Steve Wilbanks on the Tuscumbia Water Management District Board of Commissioners and seats held by Darrell Duncan and Leo Choate on the Corinth-Alcorn Parks and Recreation Commission. • Supervisors agreed to a revised interlocal agreement with the City of Corinth for Crossroads Arena.
