A Corinth man is dead after a fatal stabbing early Saturday morning and the woman who stabbed the victim remains in

the ICU Unit at Magnolia Regional Health Center after suffering a heart attack, according to police. Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance said the stabbing hap-

pened at 1 a.m. Saturday in Oakdale Trailer Park located off South Fulton Drive. A man was pronounced dead at the scene after being stabbed once in the chest, he said.

“At this point we don’t know if this case is a homicide or selfdefense,” said the police chief. The investigation continues, but questioning the woman will be delayed after she had an ap-

parent heart attack and remains hospitalized on Saturday, noted the police chief. Corinth Police Department Please see STABBING | 2A

KOSSUTH — The car line at Kossuth Elementary School next year should be less congested, according to Alcorn School District Superintendent Larry B. Mitchell. The Board of Education approved Mitchell to move forward on purchasing a quarter of an acre of land at the rear of KES. The district will add an access road on the land to creat a rear entrance, which Mitchell says will help with traffic congestion at the school. “The traffic situation is horrible out there,” he added. The district will purchase land from the Pace family for $2,500. Mitchell said the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors have agreed to build the access road to provide the much

needed rear entrance for the campus. “Doing this will help with the traffic congestion at the school when the buses are loading and unloading and will give pre-k children an easy access to their building,” said Mitchell. “These children cannot ride the bus and must be brought to school and picked up by parents.” According to the superintendent, the project should be completed by the first of August. In other county school district news: • Mitchell told board members this week that the moving project at the closed Glen and Rienzi elementary schools is 90 percent complete. “We set (Monday) as the cutoff date for those teachPlease see ROAD | 2A

People of the Crossroads Adam Smith, Burnsville Photo by Opal Lovelace

In 1986, the Smith family moved to Tishomingo County. Tom and Fannie Smith opened Big T’s convenience store and the rest is history. As the business grew, the shop’s name changed to Burnsville Amoco and Tire. The family business now belongs to Tom’s son, Adam Smith. “My dad instilled his hard work and dedication in me – I learned early on from him, if I wanted something out of life, then I had to work for it,” said Smith, who operates Adam Tire in Burnsville. “The best part of my job has always been working along side my family.” The 50-year-old Chicago native has been married to Reneta for 32 years. They have two children, Brittany Jones and Adam Smith, and two grandchildren, Maggie and Maddie.

More safety tips will also be passed along during the event, according to Barnett. The event is free and open to the public. Post 207 is located at 1002 South Johns Street.
