Open house becomes ‘Fun Day’ 4th festival returns

to Jacinto grounds

BY L.A. STORY lastory@dailycorinthian.com

A traditional open house for the Boys and Girls Club of Corinth has now expanded into a “Fun Day” thanks to some inspiration. The Boys and Girls Club of Corinth will host an Open House and Fun Day on Thursday, June 22, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club facility located at 511 Clark Street. The event began as a traditional open house and summer registration, according to Boys and Girls Club Director Trecee Hughey. She said inspiration to expand the day into a “fun day” came from Boys and Girls Club Teen Liaison Nakia Strickland. Hughey pointed out the day is meant to be fun for children, but especially meant to be informative for parents. There will be valuable information provided and parents can view their facility and see what the Boys and Girls Club has to offer. There will be a special “Money Matters” class for parents Please see CLUB | 2A

With no elections coming up this year, the delights of an old-fashioned Southern festival will be in the spotlight at Jacinto on Independence Day. The Jacinto Foundation is rounding up makers of arts and crafts and food vendors to fill the grounds at the heart of Old Tishomingo on Tuesday, July 4. Elected leaders and hopefuls are welcome to take the stage and make a stump speech in this uneventful political year. “It should be a laid-back day,” said Director Beth Whitehurst. “People can come and relax and have some good food. It is a family event and we work really hard to keep it that way.” The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with political speaking scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be a far cry from the big years in which political speak-

Local church plans dedication service BY L.A. STORY lastory@dailycorinthian.com

Pinecrest Baptist Church will soon officially celebrate its new construction and remodeling work after a long process that began with prayer. The church, located at 311 Pinecrest Road, will hold a special Dedication Service on at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20 in celebration of their recent remodel and new education and administrative buildings. However, Pinecrest Baptist Church Pastor Jeff Haney said the process began with a series

of church-wide meetings and prayerful consideration. A building project can sometimes be a strain on a church and Haney, who said Pinecrest’s building project was the third in his years of pastoring, said this one was done with ‘great harmony’ among the congregation. “It started with several church-wide meetings and we never, ever had any disagreement about doing something. We had several discussions about what to do but we never Please see SERVICE | 5A
