MAP seeks use of Corinth Elementary BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Mississippi Action for Progress is seeking to move Corinth Head Start classes to Corinth Elementary School in the coming school year. Corinth Head Start has been located in a portable facility on Bell School Road that no longer meets standards, according to MAP leaders. The Corinth School District Board of Trustees learned of the request on Tuesday and authorized Superintendent Lee Childress to continue dis-

If approved, the move to the new Droke Road school would only apply to 4-yearolds. Three-year-old children would have to go to Kendrick Head Start. If only the Kendrick center is available, Corinth parents would have to transport children there in the morning and Please see MAP | 3A

The Alcorn School District reported good news this week. The district will not seek an advalorem tax or millage rate increase from residents for the upcoming school year. The total millage rate will remain 52.76. “Increased local funding and efficient money managing by the district administrative staff and the school adminis-

tration has allowed a $16,000 surplus to be added to the District Fund Balance,” said Superintendent Gina Rogers Smith. “The Alcorn School District accomplished the surplus without borrowing any money or requesting a tax increase.
