It all starts at Lake Hill Motors for a group of Motoped riders. Members of the BlackOpsIndy Motoped Survival Bike Testing Team will be leaving the Corinth business at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1 as part of a Trans-America Trail ride. The riders will be performing tactical testing on Motoped Survival Bikes which are specialized motorized mountain bikes, according to SFC Nathaniel York. “The goal is to ride about 1,000 miles to just northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma,” stated York – also a part of the team – in a press release. “We hope to ride about 100 to 125 miles per day on the TAT which is mostly gravel and dirt.” The Trans-America Trail is a nearly 5,000-mile westbound dual-sport motorcycle trail across America. It was planned some years ago by Corinth’s Sam Correra to be an adventure on mostly off-pavement riding starting in southwest North Carolina and ending at the Pacific Ocean in southwestern Oregon. The Corinth Board of Mayor and Aldermen is taking a second look at entering a comprehensive planning process that would create a roadmap for future development of the city. Last year, the board heard two presentations from the Orion Planning Group but ultimately did not enter the process, which is said to cost around $150,000. During the board’s planning retreat at Pickwick on July 21, Joe Fratesi of the Stennis Institute of Government encouraged the board to reconsider. The city likely hasn’t been through the process since the 1960s or 1970s, when a number of municipalities did it because it was required to tap into certain federal funds. “With about 15,000 people, all the assets we talked about and fantastic opportunities for growth that you have, Corinth could, in my opinion, greatly benefit from having an updated plan,” said Fratesi. “That plan helps you have control and decide how the community is going to grow.” It would cover a period of about 20 years, would take more than a year to develop

Pastor looks forward to ministry opportunity BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com

Stephen Ludlam is no stranger to Corinth. The 32-year-old pastor has a strong connection to the city. Ludlam — known as “Lud” by most — is hoping his familiarity with the area will help a pair of churches in their partnership to see people receive salvation.

“God brought us here,” said Ludlam, who is married to the former Darrington Lancaster of Corinth. “He has something in the works.” The Amory High School graduate began serving as the new pastor at Christ United Methodist Church at the end of June. He also is the director of Youth Ministries at First United Method-

Photo presentation to benefit museum Avid local photographer Bill Avery just returned from a 10day visit to Cuba. Since returning to Corinth, he’s been asked, “why Cuba?” It’s a question he intends to answer during two upcoming photo presentations held inside the Corinth Library auditorium. Set for Tuesday and Thursday at 6:15 p.m., Avery will dive into the reasons he and his wife, Vicki, chose to visit the Caribbean island. “It was a beautiful, trip of a lifetime,” said Avery. “One that took us on an adventure through an amazing foreign land.”

People of the Crossroads Dr. Stephanie Clausel, Corinth Staff photo by Zack Steen

She started teaching music education almost three decades ago at Alcorn Central Elementary School. Next week, Corinth native Dr. Stephanie Clausel will begin her 30th year in the Alcorn School District. The last 10 years, she’s been the director of special services, overseeing funding and management of all special needs and gifted students within the district. “I really enjoy helping teachers and students,” said Clausel. “Making sure that those children who have those needs are successful fills my heart.” Married to Bryan, the two have three children, Ashley, Alan and Andy, a senior at Corinth High School. The family is big fans of Boy Scouts. “Alan and Andy are both Eagle Scouts, so we have always been heavily involved in all things scouts and have enjoyed it,” she added.

Although both presentations are free to attend, Avery will ask for donations with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit Crossroads Museum at the Historic Corinth Depot. “It is my plan to share my visit to Cuba through my camera lens,” he added. “The presentation will highlight the country’s people, plants and flowers, lands, schools, cities, food and, of course, the cars.” Cuba is known for having an abundance classic cars, the direct result of a four-decadelong ban the country’s late leader, Fidel Castro, put on foreign vehicle imports.
