Aldermen pull plug on solar panels BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Citing concerns about how large solar grids could affect neighborhoods, the Corinth Board of Aldermen enacted a

30-day freeze this week on solar panels. The moratorium bars the construction of solar panels while the city takes a closer look at the issue.

A large solar panel can be seen in front of Solar Power Solutions, a business owned by Mike Stewart at 1708 Shiloh Road. He was not pleased to learn of the moratorium.

“I was blindsided by the city,” he said. Alderman Andrew Labas proposed the moratorium to give the city time to learn more about the solar panels and con-

sider whether anything needs to be done from the governmental level to regulate construction of the panels. The city Please see SOLAR | 2A

Scams continue to target local residents BY BRANT SAPPINGTON bsappington@dailycorinthian.com

If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. That’s the message from Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance about telephone scams that continue to target the area. Dance said his department

regularly receives calls from local residents about new scam calls people are receiving. He said the con artists are not stupid and will stop at nothing to convince people to give them financial and personal information. Please see SCAMS | 2A

“I meet someone new every single day,” said local banker Reid Bostick. “I know that’s hard to believe in Corinth, but I promise it happens to me everyday ... and I love it.” A commercial and residence mortgage loan officer for Renasant Bank, Bostick has worked at the company since he graduated college five years ago. “Life isn’t about getting and having, it’s about giving and being – that’s a quote I try to live by everyday,” he said. “There’s a lot of people hurting out there and I want to try to help them.” A board member for The Alliance, Oasis Medical Center and the Crossroads Museum, Bostick is also a deacon at Oakland Baptist Church. Married to Hayli, the couple has one son, ninemonth-old Bennett.

Crossroads Museum is putting up the big screen. “Tailgate in the Garden” is making its debut on Labor Day as college football in Mississippi kicks off. Fans who don’t attend the Ole Miss-Florida State contest can watch the game under the stars at the CARE Garden. The second tailgate event will be held on Oct. 14 when Mississippi State plays at BYU. “These two great familyfriendly tailgates are part of many community sports related events coming up this fall,” said Crossroads Museum Executive Director Brandy Steen. “The events

from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security. Rates not adjusted for the season increased as students out for the summer entered the labor force. The county had 48 firsttime applicants for unemployment insurance, compared to 63 a year earlier, and 503

are in conjunction with our Smithsonian traveling exhibit ‘Hometown Teams’ coming in November.” The Ole Miss-FSU viewing – an official TriState Rebel Club watch party event – begins at 6 p.m. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. MSU’s viewing – set for a Friday night – can be seen starting at 7 p.m. Kickoff for the contest is 8 p.m. Please see GARDEN | 2A
