Three charged in vandalism case BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Corinth police have apprehended three suspects — two adults and one juvenile — in the vandalism last week of a residence, two vehicles and Bishop
Park. One of the suspects was arrested after an armed robbery, and a second juvenile is potentially involved, according to Corinth Police Department Capt. Dell Green.
Charged with two counts of felony malicious mischief are Steven Flax, 22, of South Parkway, and Zerek Hurd, 18, of Washington Street. The police department was seeking Flax as a suspect, and
he was spotted walking near the former South Corinth Elementary on Wednesday. Green said he ran from a patrol vehicle and was taken into custody a short time later. Flax was found to be in pos-
session of a firearm, resulting in another charge, and a felony amount of marijuana. Hurd was taken into custody following an armed robbery at Please see VANDALISM | 2A

A Rienzi man is charged with three felony counts for a shooting on the Northeast Mississippi Community College campus that police are terming a case of mistaken identity. Booneville police have charged Robert L. Dilworth, 25, of 50 County Road 356, Rienzi with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police Chief Michael Ramey said Dilworth is accused of firing eight shots from a .22 caliber pistol at two NEMCC students who were jogging on Jefferson Street near the college’s health science’s building on the Booneville campus around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25. One of the students was shot in the leg and taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released. Ramey said the two students were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. “The two students that were
Robert Dilworth shot at were innocent bystanders,” said the chief. Dilworth had been involved in an altercation with other individuals earlier in the evening and apparently believed the joggers to be the same individuals when they came walking up behind him. He turned and immediately began firing at them, said the chief. Bond for the suspect has been set at $125,000. He was also on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections for auto theft at the time of the shooting.
