A Farmington area man faces a felony drug charge after deputies discovered narcotics while serving another warrant. Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell said Deputy Shane Latch and Farmington Police Officer Mike Billingsley went to a County Road 105 address to serve a warrant. While at that location they Darrell discovered Justin H. Darrell, 37, of CR 105, Corinth to be in possession of approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine. Darrell was also found to have a handgun in his pocket with the serial numbers ground off, said Caldwell. Darrell was charged with possession of methamphetamine, enhanced due to a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held on a $15,000 bond and also has holds on him from the Farmington Police Depart-

Officials identified a Kossuth student as the victim in Thursday’s fatal head-on collision between a school bus and a car. Coroner Jay Jones said Victoria Isabell Longoria, 16, of County Road 750, died in the crash. She was a junior at Kossuth High School. Funeral services for Longoria are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Holly Baptist Church with burial at Holly Baptist Church Cemetery. Longoria was the only person in the car, a Chevrolet Cobalt. Kossuth bus #138 had just finished its route and was heading back to the school with only the driver onboard. Joey Spencer, the bus driver, was taken to the hospital but was not significantly injured. The crash happened about 4 p.m. on County Road 750 in an area where the waters of the Tuscumbia Canal are immediately alongside the road. The

Gospel music and spirituals will be among the wide variety of musical selections this weekend as some of the Crossroads areas greatest vocal talents join with the Corinth Symphony Orchestra. Gospel music will be performed by Corinth’s First Baptist Church’s Men’s Quartet and there will be spirituals and musical selections by the Lane Chapel Male Quintet — all performing with the Corinth Symphony Orchestra during their Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration concert to be held Saturday at the Corinth Coliseum Civic Center, located at 404 Taylor Street, beginning at 7 p.m., under the direction of CSO Maestro Maurice Weatherall. The musical lineup is designed to be a diverse showcase of six genres of music to honor those who wrote and/or

performed to give Mississippi recognition as “The Birthplace of America’s Music.” The music tributes will honor retired or deceased performers who made significant contributions to the state such as renowned opera greats Jane Redding Marrero, the late Ruby Elzy, Leontyne Price, country singers Faith Hill, the late Tammy Wynette, Charlie Pride and the King of Rock and Roll — the late Elvis Presley and more to be named. Country music hits will be sung by local vocalists Allen Woodhouse and Bonnie Crum and Ripley native and rising opera star Daland Jones will represent the opera vocalists.
