Corinth School District Community Yard weighs facility projects Sale returning BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

With an eye on various facility needs, the Corinth School District is beginning to look at renewal of its 3 mill note.

The district’s 2007 3 mill note is scheduled to be paid off in 2017, and Superintendent Lee Childress on Wednesday presented a list of possible projects to the board of trustees that

could be considered with renewal of the note. “Depending on the rate of interest that we have and what we Please see PROJECTS | 2A

Town welcomes fall with annual festival BY KIMBERLY SHELTON kshelton@dailycorinthian.com

With the autumn season just days away, the Town of Walnut is gearing up for its Fall Festival. Held annually, the celebration highlights two of Walnut’s greatest assets — community volunteerism and the spirit of giving. The 2016 Walnut Fall Festival will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Walnut Ball Park, located at 131 James Street. It’s time to clean out the closet for a good cause. The Daily Corinthian Community Yard Sale will return next month to the CARE Garden green space in downtown Corinth. The local newspaper is teaming up with the nonprofit Crossroads Museum for the second year to host the annual fall yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. “This event gives area residents a chance to get rid of some unneeded items and benefit the museum at the same time,” said museum president Cathy Wood. Proceeds from 10x10 booth spaces will benefit the museum’s Save the Fire Truck Campaign, which will help house a 1924 American LaFrance pumper fire truck on loan from the City of Corinth. Booth space is $25. As a added thank you, the Daily Corinthian is including a free classified yard sale ad for each applicant. The 18-word ad should include items each applicant will have for sale during the Community Yard Sale. This ad will publish in the Daily Corinthian classified yard sale section on October 14 and 15. “Unlike Green Market, the yard sale will not be governed,” said Wood. “People will be able to sell whatever they want.” Items such as yard sale/

junk items, clothing, furniture, glassware, antiques, toys, electronics, handcrafted items, baked goods, commercial products and independent consultant items are a sample of things which can be sold. “Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” added Wood. Booth rental fees will be donated to the museum. Also, those who do not wish to have a booth space can donate items to the museum to sell during the event. “Anyone who has items they would like to donate should call or come by the museum,” Wood said. “We really appreciate the great help from the community.” Registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 14, by 4 p.m. Those Please see SALE | 2A

People of the Crossroads Kimble Wilbanks, Corinth Staff photo by Zack Steen

Kimble Wilbanks and his wife Mary Ann were downtown staples while operating Treasurer Loans for more than 30 years. Two years ago they made a move they haven’t regretted. “I’ve always enjoyed working beside her,” he said. “Luckily I get to continue.” Kimble is vice president and branch manager at FMBank on South Harper Road and in the office beside his customers will find his wife, Mary Ann, who works as a loan processor. “Not many places let a husband and wife work together, but that’s just how amazing Farmers and Merchants is,” he said. “It’s a great community bank that really cares about their employees and customers.” Married for 31 years, the Wilbanks’ have two grown children, David and Grace Ann. In his spare time, Kimble can be found umpiring baseball at the city park.
