“We’re excited to be redirecting,” said Diane Thompson, a new arrival to the Crossroads area. “I don’t believe in the word ‘retire.’” Thompson and husband Roy recently moved to Corinth after finishing their careers, Diane from the Rankin Baptist Association, and Roy from Mississippi State University. “We’ve been visiting the Corinth area for about eight years now, and our children and grandchildren all were here, so we moved to Corinth to redirect.” The two accredited national Social Security advisors plan to concentrate solely on their consulting business, Pillars: The Social Security Knowledge Center. “We’re excited to be in the area to share the knowledge we’ve gained about Social Security rules and regulations with the people of Corinth and North Mississippi,” said Thompson. “We’ve done about 50 seminars in Jackson, Miss., and hope to do the same in this area.”

Hoffman, “The Nutcracker” ballet relates the story of a young German girl whose dreams of a Nutcracker Prince, dancing toys and a fierce battle against a Mouse King come to life. Presented in December, auditions for the full-scale production will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 1 in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, 919 E Shiloh Road

School board member

The Alcorn County school board recently ended a contract with a wireless Internet installer following a discussion with the Mississippi Ethics Commission. According to Alcorn School District attorney Arch Bullard, in March 2015, the board voted to hire InCare Technologies to install wireless Internet at all schools in the district. Although not employed with InCare at the time of bid acceptance, board member Russ Nash later became employed with the company. “I actually asked the commission to investigate,” said Nash. “I wanted to make sure I wasn’t causing any conflict by going to work there.” According to the Ethics Commission, a school board member can not be employed by a vendor with an active contract with a school district.
