Chase suspect faces arson, other charges BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
A Corinth man who eluded law enforcement after a pursuit last month faces multiple felony charges following his arrest earlier this week. Ronald Quottrochi, 48, of 1511 Levee Road Apt. 75, and
Kathy Peterson, 53, of the same address, surrendered to the Corinth Police Department at the residence Monday afternoon. Quottrochi initially refused to exit the residence, resulting in the police department’s special response team being dispatched to the apart-
ment, but the two surrendered before the team made entry. Quottrochi is charged with felony fleeing and motor vehicle theft by Corinth P.D. and is also charged with arson and felony fleeing by the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department. His bond was set at $30,000. Bond was
pending on the county charges. Peterson was charged with rendering criminal assistance. Bond was set at $10,000, and the two remained in custody. Corinth Police Department Capt. Dell Green said the case Please see ARREST | 2A

Fires damage apartment, laundromat BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com
Two small fires have kept Corinth firefighters busy the last few days. A dryer at a downtown laundromat caught fire Wednesday night. The small fire broke out shortly past 6:15 p.m. at the Madison Wash-N-Dry in the downtown residential area of Madison Street. “It appeared someone put some rags into a dryer that might have had some grease on them,” said Corinth Fire Department Chief Todd Welch.
“The guys put the fire out pretty quickly with a fire extinguisher.” Smoke and a strong burning smell did billow out of the laundromat and into the surrounding neighborhood. No one was injured in the blaze. However, the business did receive some damage. For the second time in less than a week, a fire damaged a Corinth Housing Authority apartment. The blaze was reported around 8:17 a.m. on Thursday morning at 1102 Mitchell Street near Cass Street.
“It started beside the couch in the living room — we’re unsure if someone was smoking or what caused the fire,” said Fire Chief Todd Welch. “It was mostly contained to the couch and wall, and overall the apartment only received some smoke damage.” A fire inside the Pace Terrace Apartments — also a Corinth Housing Authority property — on Galyean Road broke out on Saturday leaving occupants of two units displaced. The fire caused heavy fire and water damage.
Symphony concert will kick off season
Members of the Mississippi Painters Society are bringing their annual competition to Corinth, filling the art gallery with their latest masterworks. It’s the first time the Corinth Artist Guild will play host to a juried competition. “This show is so varied in their approaches and the subjects,” said Guild President Sonny Boatman. The show will be judged Saturday morning, and an opening reception follows the same day from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibit will run through Oct. 29. The painters society was formed when students of the late Billy Kirk were looking for an outlet for their work. Kirk, who had lived in Booneville and moved to Corinth in 2008, died in 2009. The society began with five members and has grown to more than 30. Their exhibited work in Corinth for their 10th juried show includes oil, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media pieces. “Each member strives to paint a masterpiece each time he puts a brush to canvas,” said member Robbie Boyd, who operated florist shops in
Pontotoc and Tupelo with her husband for 30 years. The society awards a scholarship each year to an art student at Northeast Community College or Itawamba Community College. The group offers workshops for painting, drawing, pastel, watercolor and oils with live models and still life. Other artists represented in the exhibit, mostly from the Tupelo area, include Karen Barclay, Bruce Bigelow, Judy Ferguson, Angela Foster, Jerry Jones, Suzanne Long, Please see GALLERY | 2A
