City sewer rate discussions continue of Mayor and Aldermen. Discussion of a possible rate increase continued during a special meeting Tuesday afternoon. The board did not act on the proposed rate increase because not all board members were present.

BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

The average sewer bill for a Corinth resident would rise by about $8 over a period of five years under one rate scenario being considered by the Board

The board is looking at increasing the base rate from $5 to $10 for residential customers, from $10 to $20 for commercial customers, and from $10 to $25 for industrial customers. That would likely be

accompanied by an increase in the usage charge of 20 cents per 100 cubic feet per year over a period of three or five years. “I think it’s important to shift a good bit of our income over into the base rate so that

our revenue doesn’t get undermined by conservation efforts,” David Huwe, director of community development and planning, told the board. Please see SEWER | 2

Passing on the generous spirit of giving, Rowan House will present their 2nd Annual Nutcracker Christmas on Sunday, Nov. 20. An enchanting private shopping event, children ages 4–12 will journey into the “Land of Sweets” from 2 to 5 p.m. as they meet Clara, the Sugar Plum Fairy and other cast members of the Corinth Ballet’s “The Nutcracker”. Parents will be able to set up a spending allowance and make payment arrangements in advance. Cash, credit cards and checks will be accepted. “‘Nutcracker Christmas will present the perfect chance for parents to drop off their children and do some shopping of their own elsewhere while the little ones pick out gifts for them, their grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, pastors, teachers and other family members and friends,” said Rowan House owner Emily McGrath. “Lip Chic, Obsessions, Purple Daisy, Shirley Dawgs, Taylor Wick & Co. and other shops in the SoCo District will be open for their convenience.
