Relic show should be biggest ever BY BOBBY J. SMITH bsmith@dailycorinthian.com

Thanksgiving to give back to the community,” said 21-year-

Almost five months out, organizers of the 8th Annual Corinth Civil War Relic Show and Sale are busy putting together the biggest show in the event’s history. The biggest change will be moving the event inside the Crossroads Arena from the convention center upstairs. “It definitely will be the biggest yet,” said Buddy Ellis, an avid relic hunter and first lieutenant commander of the Col. W.P. Rogers camp of the Songs of Confederate Veterans, the group responsible for organizing the event. “We’ve sold out every year for the last four or five years when we were upstairs.” Plans are currently to hold the event in the arena’s upper concourse section with the option to move down to the larger arena floor if enough vendors buy tables to necessitate the move. “It’s time to move into the arena,” Ellis said. “Last year we turned away a bunch of people. We could have sold 25 more tables. We can’t let that happen again.” Event organizers have already sold approximately 30 tables. By moving the event back a month — it’s usually held in March — organizers will have more time to line up more vendors. Ellis said between now and then SCV members will attend several relic shows in the region and spread publicity about the Corinth event. The new April date for the relic show will also prevent the event from com-

Message boards will be in place to alert motorists BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Motorists are encouraged to be extra cautious on South Harper Road as traffic signals are reactivated at an intersection. The lights at the intersection with Legacy Drive and Getwell Road (the turn to get to the transfer station) are scheduled to be activated Wednesday morning. On Monday, message boards will be in place to alert motorists that the signal will be reactivated. The message will change on Wednesday to indicate the lights are on, and the message boards will stay through the following weekend. The Alcorn County Board of Supervisors is putting the signalization back into service because of increased industrial traffic. It has been only a flashing caution light for a number of years following Tecumseh’s exit from the industrial building at the intersection. The board encourages drivers to slow down and approach the intersection with caution as the public gets accustomed to the signals being back in service. The names Getwell Road and Legacy Drive were assigned in 2014. Getwell Road previously had no name or road number. Legacy Drive was formerly Tecumseh Way.

First Presbyterian Church Pastor Don Elliott said it best during an early Thanksgiving morning prayer. “We are friendly, loving hands that deliver a meal,” said the pastor, as he stood before more than 75 families inside the Corinth Middle School cafeteria. It’s a Thanksgiving Day tradition 28 years in the making where the church’s congregation comes together to prepare and delivery 1,000 Thanksgiving meals to those

Gallery to be open on Black Friday BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

The best gifts come from the heart and close to home. The art gallery hopes that thought will bring in shoppers to check out a holiday collection loaded with gift options, all of them locally made. The gallery will be open on Black Friday and Saturday at 609 North Fillmore. “We have more than 60 different artists and craftspeople represented from now until Christmas,” said Artist Guild President Sonny Boatman. “We think things that are made in Corinth or nearby areas and not in China make a special gift.” The selection includes

jewelry, pottery, tree ornaments, baskets, hand-turned wooden items, knit scarves and hats, notecards and, as always, an impressive selection of original paintings. A selection of cards and whimsical framed paintings by Jesse Ables just arrived. Also included are a couple of pieces of furniture made by Wanda Birchfield, including a tall, narrow cabinet made from red oak. For the holiday event, the gallery has brought back the remaining collection of Joe McKewen high school portraits. “We hope people who are in town visiting will en-
