Jingle Bells, Holiday Sales Small Business Saturday pushes local shopping historical points of interest for them.” “In our 13 years of business, we have made many friends whom we now love like family and enjoy spending our days in the shop with,” she continued. “By continuing to support your local businesses, you will see the community you live in thrive.” The bread and butter for many, Small Business Saturday is the biggest moneymaking period for hometown merchants as they struggle to compete with big business. “It really has become the counter-part to Black Friday. Instead of trying to tackle and compete with the ‘monster’ that is ‘big box’ store shopping, the Saturday following Thanksgiving has traditionally been reserved as a time to focus on local businesses and to show off the vast array of high-quality products and merchandise offered throughout the area,” said Main Street Corinth Director Brent John#8715 an awesome feelson. Thanksgiving is normally reserved for family and football. Numerous volunteers changed their way of thinking three years ago when the Physician’s Urgent Care Lighthouse Thanksgiving Classic tipped off. Today, many will get up early for a second consecutive day to assist an organization known for helping others. “The Lighthouse Foundation is one of the most important programs in the community,” said Rick Lewis who has been part of the basketball event since the beginning. “Everything we do each day is for our family, but we have some people in the community who once they wake up it’s about helping other folks and giving back.” The annual event was created to offset the general operating budget of the Lighthouse Foundation. The basketball event is now the primary fundraiser of the foundation and makes up 20 percent of its budget. “We are trying to raise every dollar we can for the Lighthouse Foundation,” said Lighthouse Classic organizer Vince Overholt. “We have volunteers who make sure everything is done right over the two days of the tournament.” Close to 100 volunteers forgo their usual days off from work or spending
