Angel Tree sprouts holiday hope OSHA probes worker’s death
BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
More than just names on a tree. To the Salvation Army those names are angels in need. The organization is out to make Christmas brighter for 89 children listed on their annual Angel Tree. Individuals can start adopting children from the tree on Monday, Nov. 30 when it will be placed at the main entrance of Walmart in Corinth. Those interested in adopting an angel can just take the name off the tree. Each child’s name along with clothing sizes and particular toy desired are placed on the tree in the form of a Christmastype ornament. “Clothes are the most important things they need along with shoes and coats,” said Michelle Miles, Salvation Army Director. “These kids aren’t asking for any high dollar things this Christmas.” Once done shopping for the child, adopters should place the gifts in a black garbage bag and tape the angel tree tag to

A Booneville tattoo artist has been charged with allegedly improperly touching two teens and is also accused of improperly tattooing them. Police Chief Michael Ramey said Jeremy D. Walls, 30, of 143 County Road 951, Guntown has been charged with two counts of enticement of a child and two counts of touching of a child for lustful purposes. Bond has been set at $40,000. Wall’s license to perform tattooing and body piercing has been suspended by the Mississippi Department of Health. MDH Communications Director Liz Sharlot said the license was suspended pending a formal hearing, tentatively set for Dec. 15. Two 15-year-old females and their guardians told investigators Walls had tattooed them and touched them improperly while performing the tattoos, said Ramey. Mississippi law prohibits the tattooing of any person under the age of 18.
GLEN — There’s a new writer in town. Seven-year-old Alice Brose loves reading “Pete the Cat” books, and now the Glendale Elementary School second grader loves to write them, as well. Brose wrote the book “Pete the Cat and the New Cat in School,” styled after popular “Pete the Cat” author Eric Litwin. Using correct grammar and punctuation, she created her own version of the book about a new friend at school. “Pete the Cat sees a new cat in school and sings a song to welcome the new cat,” said Brose. “In the book, Pete sees the new
cat on the school bus. They become friends and then they sit together in class.” Brose said the moral of the story is if there is a new kid in school, you should be happy because it is all good. “When I see a new kid in school, I am always nice to them and think everyone should act the same way,” she said. The book features a song written by the young author as well, which is titled “There’s a New Cat in School.” The daughter of Corinth natives Michael and Laura Brose, the student says she named the new cat after Staff photo by Zack Steen her grandfather, Greg. Glendale Elementary School second grader Alice Brose recently wrote and illustrated her first book, “Pete the Cat and the New Cat in Please see BOOK | 2A School.”
Crossroads Regional Park to host tree lighting celebration BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Ray Holloway is ready to flip the switch for holiday cheer. Crossroads Regional Park will host a lighting of the park event at 6 p.m. Thursday at Pavilion No. 2. It is planned to become an annual celebration of the season.
“Last year, we put up a lighted Christmas tree as a decoration,” he said. “We had a lot of good, positive responses.” The park looks to expand on that this year with some additional decorations and family friendly activities. The event will include carols by the Corinth Middle School cho-
rus and the dramatic reading of a Christmas story by Autry Davis. Hot chocolate will be served. The Christmas event is one way Holloway plans to bring more people into the park. “This is what we’re all about, parks and recreation, is providing activities and events for
the whole family to enjoy,” he said. He found similar Christmas events to be successful at other parks before coming to Corinth. “It’s a good outing for families,” said Holloway. “I want this and everything we do to be community-focused.”
