The spirit of giving this holiday season is alive and well in the Alcorn County area. Donations are beginning to pour in for the 20th Annual Corinth Rotary Club / Daily Corinthian Christmas Basket Fund. A $25,000 fund raising goal was set so 1,000 food baskets can be given to local families on Saturday, Dec. 5. Baskets will be given away based upon faith the goal will be reached. So far, $500 has been raised. Recent donations include $50 from Nelson Rickman in memory of Ann Rickman; and $50 from Lynn Bingham in memory of Jimmy Bingham. Contributions to the Christmas Basket Fund can be made “in honor of” or “in memory of” a special person or persons. The tribute will be published daily in the Daily Corinthian. Donations can be brought by the newspaper office 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or mailed to: Daily Corinthian, Attn.:Christmas Basket Fund, P.O. Box 1800, Corinth, MS 38835.

Lowe’s helps park playground get facelift BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

A much-needed upgrade was recently completed on the Crossroads Regional Park Fun Station. A grant from Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse of Corinth provided funds, while local Lowe’s employees helped make the improvements to the megaplayground. “Lowe’s stepped up to the plate in our time of need and got the job done,” said park director Ray Holloway. “They were really a gift from God.” Holloway said the playground’s poor shape had been on his radar since he first took over management of the park more than a year ago. “I actually spent several days out there my first few weeks trying to make it a little safer,” he said. “But with the budget we have, there was only so much we could do.” As part of the grant, Lowe’s manager Keith Cox and other employees received work Please see PLAYGROUND | 2

Holiday tradition returns to historic home

The church held its annual drop-off week recently for the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. Organizations, individuals

With lanterns on the porch and greenery at every turn, the makings of a candlelight tour were afoot Wednesday at the Verandah-Curlee House. The four-day event is today, Friday and Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitors will be treated to music and a glimpse of how the historic home might have looked during the Christmases of another era.
