Basket fund hits $1,500 The spirit of giving this holiday season is alive and well in the Alcorn County area. Donations are beginning to pour in for the 20th Annual Corinth Rotary Club/Daily Corinthian Christmas Basket Fund. A $25,000 fundraising goal was set so 1,000 food baskets can be given to local families today. Baskets will be given away based upon faith the goal will be reached. So far, $1,500 has been raised. Recent donations include $100 from Arvolle & Hazel Brown and $500 from the Magnolia Racking Horse Association. Contributions to the Christmas Basket Fund can be made “in honor of” or “in memory of” a special person or persons. The tribute will be published daily in the Daily Corinthian. Donations can be brought by the newspaper office 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or mailed to: Daily Corinthian, Attn.: Christmas Basket Fund, P.O. Box 1800, Corinth, MS 38835.

An escaped inmate is back in custody. David Todd Johnson, 46, was apprehended Friday afternoon by the combined effort of the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department, Corinth Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service. Johnson, who left his work detail

at the Alcorn County Jail around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, was taken into custody without incident at a residence at the intersection of County Road 510 and Highway 2 in Kossuth. “We received a call about a person fitting his description at the residence,” said sheriff-elect Ben Caldwell. “I want to thank everyone who had a hand in apprehending

him.” Johnson walked off his work detail in the jail kitchen on Wednesday. He had been housed at the jail since Nov. 23 for misdemeanor traffic charges, according to Caldwell. Johnson was among a group working as cooks at the jail. “Since we do not have any state

BY STEVE BEAVERS Javen Morrison was impressed. The Corinth High School senior was part of 27 high school students to visit Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala. for High School and Community College Day at the university. Brothers Making A Difference (BMAD) was responsible for the trip. BMAD members provide a trip for students to visit a college campus each fall. Those who went on the

trip got a chance to tour the Tuskegee campus and also receive information from university staff. “I really enjoyed the environment,” said Morrison. “Tuskegee was on my list of colleges before I decided to attend ICC.” The CHS senior plans to enter the Veterinary Science field next year. “BMAD gave us the experience of looking at a college that will help us as African Americans,” said Morri-
