Alcorn: 4 holiday parades in 4 days BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

KOSSUTH — The holiday season will officially kickoff this weekend in Kossuth. On tap for Saturday includes the third annual Kossuth Christmas Parade at 4 p.m. “A Red, White and Blue Christmas” is the theme of the parade, which will honor veterans, law enforcement and firefighters. Parade organizer Anthia Follin-King is most excited about the parade’s grand marshal. “Ethan Mitchell, the nineyear-old Kossuth boy who was badly injured in a automobile accident, will be our grand marshall,” she said. “He is a miracle and we are very happy to honor him in this way.” Ethan is the son of Julie and Reed Mitchell. Prior to the parade, a ceremony will honor the Kossuth school state championship teams in baseball, cross country and power lifting. “We will present team members with a resolution from the town and state honoring them,” added Follin-King. After the parade, veterans, law enforcement and firemen are invited inside the LC Follin Christian Life Center (blue building) for a free meal of soups, chillies and homemade desserts. With 85 entries already scheduled to take part, FollinKing said Saturday’s parade may be the biggest ever. “Since we are counting all 20 horses as one entry, 13 antique cars as one entry and 13 Please see PARADES | 5A

BY KIMBERLY SHELTON kshelton@dailycorinthian.com

Realizing her childhood dream, Turning Pointe Dance Academy’s Tinley Wharton will leap into the lead role of Clara Stahlbaum as the Corinth Ballet presents “The Nutcracker.” Complete with elaborate sets, angels and animated wooden toys, the 2016 presentation will be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10. A special matinee will also be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11. Featuring approximately 60 dancers, all performances will be held at the Coliseum Civic Center in downtown Corinth. Returning to the historic stage, Assistant Director Madeleine Gardecki (last year’s Clara) will portray the Sugar Plum Fairy. The Northeast Mississippi Community College student is also choreographing three pieces for the “The Nutcracker” ballet. Making his highly anticipated return as Herr Drosselmeyer, Corinth’s own John Orman will delight spectators as he waltzes into his performance as Clara’s mysterious Godfather. “He has really gotten into the role and has been diligently practicing his dance steps and lifts,” said Director Crystal Sweeney. “He was a huge hit with our audience members last year and we are so excited to have him back.” “This year’s presentations

Now 13 years old, dancer Tinley Wharton has participated in every production of “The Nutcracker” since she was 8 and will be performing en pointe the entire time.

County and city law enforcement teamed with other agencies to serve a number of felony warrants late last week. With the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Mississippi Department of Corrections, officers made the arrests stemming from recent grand jury indictments. “Some of these investigations have been ongoing for over a year,” said Sheriff Ben Caldwell. “We anticipate other arrests to come.” Those arrested are: • Danny Thomas Gray, 56, of County Road 257, Glen — Possession of a controlled substance and sale of a controlled substance • Sherry Lynn Day White, 52, of County Road 271, Glen — Grand larceny and exploitation of a vulnerable adult • Kansas Monique Baldwin, 28, of Horton Street, Corinth — Two indictments for sale of cocaine • Tanya Nicole Batie, 31, of North Parkway, Corinth — Taking a controlled substance to a correctional facility

Will Dillinger enjoys his job. The 30-year-old Corinth native started working at the Marathon station on Shiloh Road five months ago. “It’s different every day,” said Dillinger. “I get to talk to all kinds of folks.” He performs a variety of duties to keep the store up and running, from stocking the coolers to manning the cash register and singing along with Al Green on a portable boombox. The 2005 Corinth grad said he prefers a quiet life. “I work and go home,” he said. “I hang out with friends sometimes, go fishing sometimes.” He also enjoys watching Mississippi State and other SEC football. But recently, Dillinger has been keeping his nose to the grindstone. “All I’ve been doing is paying bills lately,” he said.
