Labor Day is upon us and it’s officially back-to-school season. But don’t cry because it’s over, smile because your Daily Summer kept you on the pulse of what was hot all season long. Plus! NYFW is just around the corner. Time to recharge those batteries! To help you do just that, we’re bringing you a preview of what’s to come. From collections dropping to the intel you won’t get anywhere else, get ready to dive in!

A DOG’S LIFE! A GWYNETHAPPROVED

SIP!

Miami Cocktail Co. has joined forces with goop on a limited-edition organic Limonata SPRITZ. With bright, fresh lemon and a hint of basil, the canned sparkling-rosé cocktail will instantly transport you to the Amalfi Coast. Proceeds will benefit the organization, charity: water. Cin cin!

Luna (Serena Goh’s adorable Alaskan Klee Kai) enjoying chill time with Herschel’s new coolers. What a cutie!

THE ICON WE DESERVE!

We can’t get enough of Jennifer Coolidge on HBO’s The White Lotus, but did you know the actress is a hilarious mustfollow on Instagram, too? Sample caption: “Thank you @loewe for the sexiest trench I’ve ever worn. Thank god I remembered to wear my fig leaf underneath—it’s windy in Paris.” We die!

A DINNER WITH A DIFFERENCE! Introducing an experiential yearround dining concept called It’s a Dinner. The fully sustainable Hamptons-based series, created and hosted by Ana Hito, highlights seasonal produce and local purveyors. Upon arrival, explore Sagaponack’s Foster Farm before tucking into a five-course meal of fresh fare, cooked by Hito. Everything is shoppable (from the plates to the pasta!) via QR codes in a physical magazine given to each guest, too. Okay, let’s eat!

THINGS TO DISCUSS!

Gywneth Paltrow

1. Calvin Klein pocketed $85 million after selling off his East Hampton estate. Two buyers snapped up the 10,000-square-foot property and a strip of undeveloped land, respectively. The real kicker? The designer had purchased the home for $3.6 million in the late ’80s! 2. Hamptons queen Christie Brinkley revealed that she took her mom

Gucci Westman and Molly Sims

as her date to the legendary Studio 54 disco when celebrating her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover. Plus one goals!

3. There’s reportedly a bubbly shortage Out East. Sacré bleu! Billionaires are said to be flying in champagne on private planes, while others squirreled it away months ago in case of emergency. Only in the Hamps! 4. The Colony Hotel is partnering with Christie’s on an immersive pink-hued pop-up activation at the Southampton auction house through September 6.

5. There’s still time to get your fitness fix! Nina Agdal

will be teaching her beloved The Agdal Method on August 28 at The Surf Lodge, in partnership with Lightbox jewelry.

WEDDING BELLS!

Catching up with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue star Josephine Skriver.

What’s your plan for the fall?

Work is slowly picking up, which is nice. My best friend [Jasmine Tookes] is getting married in September, so I’m on bridesmaid duty every weekend. I didn’t know Americans do so many things. There’s like seven steps before getting married! I’m also planning my own wedding for next year. We had to cancel because of COVID.

Where are you getting married?

We are still looking. Potentially, Mexico because it would be open for my European family and my fiancé’s American family.

Do you have your dress? I do…

Give us a hint! It’s white! [Laughs] I’m excited about it!

Style SOIRÉE The Daily Summer brought a few of our best-dressed friends to the backyard of Charlotte and Sophie Bickley’s gorgeous Southampton home for a party to celebrate the Hamptons’ Most Stylish list, presented by Whispering Angel and Kérastase. The evening brought out a who’s who of Hamptonites, including Tinamarie Clark, Samantha Cohen, Niyo Malik, Timo Weiland, Gillian and Serena Miniter, Fern Mallis, Jennifer Miller, Nicole Miller, Frederico Azevedo (and his adorable puppy, Louis), Alex Cohen, Alicia and Yorgos Tsibiridis, Chris Coffee, Mara Siegler, David Florentin, Blue One’s Crystal and Jarret Willis, Chantel Waterbury, MoAnA Luu, Mariah Strongin, Lara Shriftman, Kyle Roth, Claudia Allegra, Bari Yorke, and The Daily Summer’s Freya Drohan, Alex Dickerson, Lizzi Bickford Meadow, Monica Forman, Nandini Vaid, and Eddie Roche. Other ladies sporting Hervé Legér on the evening included Sophie Sumner, Jourdan Sloane, Alina Baikova, Olivia Caputo, and Kylie Vonnahme. Organic and low-sugar libations from Miami Cocktail Co. quenched guests’ thirsts as they caught up with friends, old and new, while others clinked chilled Lamberti Prosecco cocktails or sipped on Swoon Lemonade. Guests went home with goodies from Zitomer, clean tequila seltzers provided by Volley, Dr. Cindy Bressler, MUD\WTR, Athletic Greens, Sugarbreak, Selvatixa Jewelry, Neuro Mints, Beam CBD, Amp Human, and a copy of the latest issue of The Daily Summer. ETRO Out East East Enders f locked to Amagansett’s The Reform Club in style this week, turning out in their garden party finery to shop the latest must-haves from Milan-based luxury label ETRO. The Daily Summer event was hosted by Art Production Fund Executive Director Casey Fremont, Ashley Wu, founder of chic Upper East Side members club Maison, and Lizzi Bickford Meadow. Those in attendance sipped glasses of chilled FIG & OLIVE rosé— served from a chic custom rosé cart, no less! The beloved Mediterranean restaurant also kept guests satiated with a chef-created menu, which kept the Italian heritage of the brand front of mind. In other words, a crostini station with delicious and delectable burrata and pesto; lemon ricotta, pecan, and caramelized peach; and goat cheese and confit options. Also on offer were small plates of caulif lower and bulgur tabbouleh; rainbow carrots and sweet potatoes with hummus; Yellowfin tuna tartare with avocado and toasted pistachio; and Sud & Soleil salad comprised of haricots verts, heart of palm, figs, and candied pecan. Chef ’s kiss! Ensuring no shortage of picture-perfect moments, the space was transformed into a Riviera-style “ETRO Beach” club for the day, thanks to custom paisley place mats, linens, décor, and, of course, pool f loats! While discovering the latest collection at The Reform Club’s Cottage 1, guests learned more about ETRO as a major international luxury player. Among those in attendance to see the bohemian-style frocks, printed separates, and covetable accessories were Violet Gaynor, Amy Herman Schechter, Kim Taylor, Magda Coven, Jaimee Marano, Alicia and Yorgos Tsibiridis, Alexandra Chemla, Jack Richardson, Daniela DeGrazia, and more.

Step & Repeat!

L’Agence and The Daily Summer Celebrate the Season Hamptonites were in a party mood—and The Daily Summer had just the occasion to get them up and dancing! Toasting the 10th anniversary of the fash mag, East Enders headed to the grounds of the 21 House at The Reform Club in Amagansett, which had been transformed into a bohemian garden oasis for the evening. Another reason for clinking glasses was that L’Agence was in town to share a look at the brand’s debut footwear collection of sultry mules, suede flats in jewel tones, and thigh-high and ankle-length boots—all of which will have us looking street-style ready just in time for NYFW! Models and influencers alike posed in the new styles against a beautiful floral-themed backdrop installation, which had been created for the event.

Designer and DJ Timo Weiland was on duty behind the decks, ensuring everyone was dancing the night away. Grace Atwood was happy to see her go-to rosé, Fleurs de Prairie, flowing. In theme with the garden fête, catering by D&DDesigns had a summer barbecue in mind, with delicious sliders, ribs, shrimp salad, chicken skewers, and more on offer. Elsewhere, attendees made a bee-line toward the JAJA tequila and fresh ceviche cart. Refreshing Lamberti Prosecco cocktails, as well as Redemption Rye, Gray Whale Gin, clean tequila seltzers from Volley, red and white wine from The Calling, and a chic mobile wine bar provided by FIG & OLIVE ensured that the party remained vibrant until sunset. Guests included Sasha Simone Rudes, Cora Emmanuel, Samantha Gradoville, Alina Baikova, Valery Kaufman, Alex White, Karina Bik, Kylie Vonnahme, and more.

DIAMONDS

What could satiate our appetite for summer glamour more than a sunny Friday lunch, with Messika gems for accompaniment? Guests came together in the lush grounds of The Reform Club’s 21 House in Amagansett to feast their eyes on the Haute Joaillerie Maison’s latest must-haves and to see new iterations of the iconic Move range. Highlights included the slideable diamond My Move bracelet that has been created to share across the sexes, the Lucky Move Color medallion jewels with semi-precious stones and diamonds (a first for the brand!), and the Lucky Move and Lucky Eye talismanic-like pieces in array of metals and precious stones. As the stylish attendees arrived, they were greeted with display cases of the show-stopping Messika pieces, which they could try on while discovering more about the brand from on-site experts while clinking chilled glasses of Rock Angel Diamonds rosé. It doesn’t get more Hamptons than that. Sveva Marcangeli from the Natural Diamond Council was also on hand to inform guests about the mission of the Council to educate and inspire people about diamonds, particularly via its platform, Only Natural Diamonds.

Messika pieces

Delectable dishes custom-created by FIG & OLIVE’s guest chef Alain Allegretti included appetizers for the table, such as cauliflower and bulgur tabbouleh, Yellowfin tuna crudo, stuffed eggplant bayaldi, and warm paradise shrimp, followed by a choice of harissa salmon or pesto mafaldine, and an incredible nougat glacé and dessert platter for the palatepleasing finale. The menu was certainly an instant crowd pleaser, and so too were custom illustrations by artist A.E. Kieren and astrology readings by Francesca Vuillemin. Among those in attendance to raise a toast to Messika’s Head of Business Development Béatrice de Quervain—whose scene-stealing Messika diamond earrings had previously been given the seal of approval by Cardi B!—were Serena Goh, Grace Atwood, Christina Caradona, Sophie Sumner, Justin Livingston, Danielle Maxwell, Steven Beltrani, Amy Herman Schechter, Gretchen Maull Berger, Krista Corl, Nicole Friedman, and more.

Living for

THE WEEKEND! Nina Agdal and Bridget Bahl

What happened when we brought together five of our favorite content creators for a getaway chock-full of activities? We’re about to show you! Christina Caradona, Grace Atwood (both flying in from L.A. and Charleston, respectively), Serena Goh, Bridget Bahl, and Justin Livingston made themselves at home in the elegant surroundings of The Reform Club’s 21 House. The crew, who are already a tightknit group, had a laugh a minute, thanks to an itinerary that incorporated everything from a fitness class with Nina Agdal to much-needed time to chill on the sandy beaches of Amagansett. The “fantastic five” were also tasked with putting Herschel’s new Insulated Program offerings to the test, taking the brand’s coolers, totes, and water bottles to the shore with delectable snacks from FIG & OLIVE and Herschel-branded beverages for good measure. But wait, there’s more! Our guests for the weekend were further pampered with a covetable swag bag of goodies from Highline Wellness, Moroccanoil, L’Agence, Arrae, Reserveage, The Kooples, Zitomer, and Unsubscribed. Ahh, how the other half live!

& SINNERS Saint Laurent’s Fall/Winter ’21 collection is fueling our inner maximalist’s desire for more, more, more. Anthony Vaccarello revealed the offering digitally in a film shot against an epic background of glaciers and rolling rural hills. The 64-look collection took its inspiration from the contrast among eras, genres, textures, and colors in a bid to, as Vaccarello put it, “shake up Saint Laurent’s bourgeois codes.” The result? Decadent Doctor Zhivago–style cossack hats, opulent tweed and embellished jackets, faux fur cuffs, 1980s-style pedal pushers, and metallic minis, along with feather-trimmed skirts, trophy tailleurs, and itsy bitsy pairs of brocade hot pants. Speaking of codes, no one could say that the house’s knack for joie de vivre dressing didn’t shine through, either. As we eagerly plan our colder-weather outfits, this collection came as a reminder to mix and match with bravado. So dust off your own precious heirlooms and you can feel that sartorial joy again, too. Bourgeois, us? Mais oui!

ChicMOMENTS TO THE

MAX!

As the summer sun set on the Italian island of Ischia, Max Mara’s Ian Griffiths presented his Resort ’22 offering for the storied house— marking the first time a fashion event had been hosted at the idyllic destination. Like so many, Griffiths has been dreaming of travel, but beyond just the physical and mental elements of actually going somewhere, he was thinking of the well-heeled women for whom traveling in style is a whole lifestyle. Those who instantly came to mind were Truman Capote’s infamous and beautiful “swans,” which was fitting because Capote’s novel, Local Color, and the significant time that he spent on Ischia in the 1950s and ’60s were a jumping-off point for Griffiths on this occasion.

The spirit of one immaculate swan in particular, Fiat head Gianni Agnelli’s best-dressed-list fixture wife, Marella, permeated the collection of reimagined elegant mid-century silhouettes. Think: new takes on Call the Midwife coats, sporty updates to the failsafe pairing of tunic tops and slim trousers, plus easygoing and relaxed drop waists, funnel necks, and weekender bags galore. Fittingly, Agnelli’s granddaughter Ginevra Elkann was enlisted by the house to create a video of the show and Max Mara’s modernday swans, who also took f light in languid kaftans, shorts suits, shearling bombers, and collarless coats. Feeding into our seemingly prevailing obsession with vintage-style tennis outfits, there were also f lippy skirts and cowl-neck dresses in dazzling white that looked perfect for match time—or any occasion, really. In terms of styling inspiration that any of us can translate in our own day-to-day lives, the woven handheld baskets, wide sunglasses, and headscarves seemed destined to become a moment on swans f lying a little closer to home this season. The show notes said of this muse, “Career, family, friends, fun; she wants it all, she deserves it all, and right now she’s in the mood for a dose of sleek, jet-set glamour.” You can say that again!

High&HEELS High STANDARDS

JEFF RUDES knows the innate power the right shoe holds. Heck, it goes back to the 1970s when he would rock his own pairs of Fantasia platforms. As the co-founder of J Brand, the fashion industry veteran has long been synonymous with denim—an act he followed with the smashingly successful clothing brand, L’Agence. Now, it appears that the footwear category is what really makes his heart sing. As L’Agence launches its foray into the shoe market, here’s how the team created an offering that’s a love letter to the greats— with a woman’s desire for beauty shining through front and center.

GREATEST HITS Rudes (opposite) and the L’Agence team delved into the footwear history archives to uncover “the best of the best” when conceptualizing their debut collection.

How have you been? How’s your summer? It’s been good! We didn’t do our summer trip to Europe. But last week I spent five days with my wife in Hawaii. While I’m more for the European beach scene, she loves Hawaii and I’m a golfer, so I took my clubs and played early every morning—I didn’t make her a golf window! I’m sure the break was good! I’m working from home, but I go to the office a few days a week. The biggest thing for me about the trip was getting away from my environment. You have to get away, and you’ve gotta be around people. When I’m in the office, it’s a flow and we get a lot of stuff done. COVID changed my life for the better. The way we work and our strategy is so efficient. We’re creating the future of how we work. Speaking of enhanced lifestyle, have you discovered any new hobbies? Painting! When my wife and I set up the guesthouse, we used to paint a bunch together in one of the large rooms upstairs. She even has her own easel. If I sent you pictures, you wouldn’t believe the pieces we’ve been making! For me, I also spent time with my dogs on the weekends. My relationship went to another level of love. It’s been so sweet. Especially the puppy, she really warmed up to be during the pandemic. She kisses me all the time, and she’s not playing hard to get anymore! What kind of dogs are they? They’re both rescues. Mikey is black, he’s really regal for a mutt! He’s got shiny long hair, and he looks like those Egyptian dogs in some of the pictures. You can imagine him guarding the gates of Cairo! The other one is a mix of Yorkie and four other things. She’s a bundle of love and a cuddle bunny. She actually looks like a little bunny! Let’s take it all the way back. What originally made you want to pursue fashion? I always had a knack for it. From a teen, I was wearing European clothing. It was 1975 and I was wearing French gabardine slacks, Italian shirts, and platforms as a 17-year-old! If you google “Fantasia” shoes from the 1970s, that’s them. But this wasn’t the way people dressed, but it was the way I was dressed. I went right to opening a jean company at the age of 19 on Fashion Avenue. It’s a fun, long story—I’ve been doing this for 40 years, but who’s counting! It’s all been written up 50 times. What I really want to talk about is shoes! Yes, you’ve just launched L’Agence’s debut footwear category. Tell us more! The jean is the most emotional piece in a woman’s closet. Second to that, it’s probably the bathing suit. When a woman finds these pieces for her closet, she

becomes loyal. She knows she looks fantastic, she feels glamorous, she loves the experience of buying them. She saves them for 20 years, and she remembers them! It’s about the passion for the product. The third piece is the shoe. That’s been going on since Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, and all the greats. That heel and what it did for a woman in a dress, it just takes fashion and beauty to the next level. Barefoot? You look great! A heel? Hold on, where are you going because I’m coming with you! What we created with this category goes back to the spirit of finding the perfect jean. What’s the shoe that goes with that? What was on your moodboard when designing? We went to the archives of the greats of the greats: the Blahniks, Choos, Rossis, Louboutins, Charles Jourdan. We identified the best of the best, because everyone from Grace Kelly to my mother wore these shoes. Then we reinterpreted our ideas with the top suedes and skins and great colors. Let me tell you, we went to market and everyone was blown away. But I knew what we were doing, I’ve been buying shoes for women for Valentine’s Day presents since I was in my twenties! What is it about footwear that you love so much? I just love women’s shoes. I love my mom in a Pucci dress and a Charles Jourdan shoe. The exact message that we want to send with everything from our kitten heels, sandals, and boots is that we’ve gone beyond. With any of these shoes on, you’re going to look smashing. Why did you feel that now is the right time to get into this category? The philosophy was to keep it simple. I know from my past in merchandising, less is more. When you go to a showroom and it has walls and walls of samples, what that team is trying to show buyers, the buyer ends up lost. Human nature can’t take that much. For me, it’s all in the edit. We gave people such a compact story of the best of the bests done in the past 50 years, they got it so clear, it hit them in the head! What can the L’Agence customer expect? It’s only the beginning, but the message is there and it’s strong. These are the classics that will make a woman

look and feel beautiful. She already trusts the brand, and she knows she’ll get compliments all day. What’s the vibe of the Fall ‘21 collection? The philosophy continues, but with more flats and sandals for summer. It’s all about the classics. We might have gone back to something that was in the Fendi archive from the ’70s, taken part of the look, and done our own back on it or tweaked it somehow. It’s like how a car is a car—they all have four wheels, an engine, and a body underneath it all. What we’re doing is to make women feel special. I tell my design team that there’s a lot at stake here. We’re selling a feeling and an emotion. The responsibility that we have in making her feel and look beautiful, it’s way beyond the garment. We want her to have chills. Where does that commitment to empowering women through fashion stem from? I once had the most enchanting lunch with Azzedine Alaïa. I was sitting next to him and to the left of me was a woman. He only spoke French, so he asked her to ask me what was the most inspiring thing about making clothing. I said to her, “I love when I make a woman feel and look beautiful. That’s just it.” And she tells him in French and he starts laughing and says, “That’s exactly why I do what I do.” To get that from him, a genius, was incredible. Like Alexander McQueen, Alaïa and McQueen were the s**t of all s**t. When I’m shopping with my wife, I’m looking for that sexiness. When there’s something in the attitude, that’s what it is for me. What will the price point be? We’re in the contemporary market, so $300–$600. What are some positive changes you’ve witnessed in the industry over the decades? I think that we’re still in a beautiful cycle. I didn’t like how much urban and street got into menswear. Sneakers and sweats—it’s not me. I don’t think it’s fashion. Fashion is a little smarter and more timeless. Super rock ’n’roll, even. Hedi Slimane knows how! How do you remain innovative and ensure that you’re looking to the future? I do it by keeping my eye on the ball and on the prize.

What’s next for L’Agence? Bathing suits, but there’s no rush. We plan our growth, and we talk about product expansion a year earlier. It’s all timing and when to do it. Slow and steady wins the race. It’s all about brand loyalty to the point where, when we introduce something, [our customer] is going to trust us. We have some things in the pipeline…very good ones!

@bridget FOLLOWERS: 840K Congrats on your engagement! Thank you! How are you keeping your glow intact? It’s so important to wear sunscreen every day and to keep hydrated. I quit tanning years ago, and it has made such a difference in slowing the aging process. I use Luna Bronze moisturizer on my body weekly and Tan-Luxe on my face every few days. Sure, some of my clothes might get stained with fake tan, but my skin will be glowing for years to come! Have you been traveling? I’ve been to Turks and Caicos, Bermuda, and the Amalfi Coast—and, of course, I got to go to the Hamptons with The Daily Summer! Favorite footwear for summer? I’ve been loving Reebok’s Freestyle high-tops with everything from sweats in the airport to a cute girly dress. I’ve also been wearing the Gia Couture x RHW flat sandals in white and I live in my Yeezy slides. You’ve got your own apparel line, The Bar! What are you eyeing for fall trends? I think bomber jackets will be huge…hint, hint!

HANNAH TURNER-HARTS (1); SHUTTERSTOCK (1); ALL OTHERS COURTESY

Where have you been traveling? I’ve stayed fairly local—a beach trip to Fire Island Pines and some hikes in the Catskills. My friends and I usually take a trip to Europe in November, so if it’s safe to travel then, I’ve got my sights set on Paris, Amsterdam, and London! Book you’ve loved? I’m a sucker for anything true crime–related, so I’ve sped through Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City. Summer skincare tips? My favorite sunscreen is Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen. I reapply multiple times throughout the day. I’ve also made a habit of using a cold jade roller to keep my skin looking fresh. How do you humidity-proof your distinctive mane? I never blow-dry it. I give a scrunch with curl cream after I shower and let it air-dry before I style it. It’s the only way I can truly tame the frizz! Summertime is party time! What have you been wearing? I aim for breezy and comfortable, so a light knit vest, oversized T-shirts, and strappy sandals are absolute staples. Lately, I've been wearing pieces from Salt Murphy, Aimé Leon Dore, Corridor, and Casablanca.

How’s your summer going? I moved to Charleston this past spring, but I’ve been traveling back to New York quite a bit. Charleston! Quite a different scene… I like living somewhere a little more calm and slow. I appreciate New York much more now that I’ve moved away. I live near my parents and like being so close to family. But it’s also so hot, so my style of uniform has changed—now it’s a kaftan or smocked dress, low bun, and huge earrings to distract from my sweatiness! Who are some designers you love? I’ve been loving everything La Ligne is doing—dreamy midis and maxis with such pretty details. I also just got a fantastic kaftan from Rachel Comey, and I’ve been wearing gold raffia mules from Loeffler Randall all summer! Travel discovery? I went to Valle de Guadalupe earlier this summer and just fell in love with it. We did two nights of glamping and wine tasting at Cuatro Cuatros. It’s so special and unique there. Any skin secrets to share? I’m not sure I’m allowed to say this, but I love Botox! I see Christina Nalbone from Ever/Body twice a year for baby Botox, and it’s the best thing I ever did. I’m diligent with my skincare, but as you age, some things need more than creams and potions. Beach-reads you couldn’t put down? I loved The Push, by Ashley Audrain. I can’t stop thinking about the ending! It was a little bit sick and twisty, in the best possible sense. I read a lot—usually around 10 books a month. We love your podcast, Bad on Paper! Tell us about a memorable guest. Elizabeth Gilbert. We had her on to talk about her book Big Magic. I think about that episode all the time when trying to be creative or get out of a rut. Also, Cindy Crawford, Graham Norton, Julia Turshen, Elin Hilderbrand—every interview opens my eyes in a different way! I feel so fortunate to get to do what I do!

@theserenagoh FOLLOWERS: 256K You recently moved to Brooklyn! Any neighborhood spots to recommend? Yes, I’m a Brooklyn newbie! There’s a local seafood monger called Shipwreck Seafood Boutique on the corner of Bedford and Greene. Their snapper sandwich is a must-try. And Ume in Williamsburg is exceptionally beautiful. Everything from presentation to the ambiance is special. Does your adorable dog, Luna, enjoy traveling as much as you do? I’m lucky that she’s such an easygoing dog. She’s quiet during the commute and outgoing when we are around people. She’s definitely the main character! Speaking of, can you share your favorite pet travel essentials? We recently got beautiful accessories from Shaya Pets. They make gorgeous leather carriers, leads, and collars. How do you keep your skin clear in summer? It’s a struggle! My day always starts with Schwanen Garten Antioxidant Serum and C E Ferulic serum by SkinCeuticals, a good moisturizer by Augustinus Bader, and lots of SPF by Eve Lom. In the evenings, I’m all about Retinol and night cream. Any other life-changing beauty discoveries? I recommend NuFACE microcurrent devices. I also love my Droplette. It’s a NASA-backed skincare device that delivers serums into your skin at a more cellular level.

Christina Caradona @troprouge FOLLOWERS: 476K What have you been up to this summer? I’m a West Coast girl now! I made the move to L.A. a few months ago. I’m working on a few projects and super excited about the future! Any great new locations we must check out? This is the time to take that trip you’ve been holding back on. If this past year has taught us anything, it’s that life is short and precious. The Azores are extremely photogenic islands off the coast of Portugal, and of course, Le Pays Basque is chef ’s kiss. How do you keep your curls looking so fresh in the heat? I’m sulfate-free, baby! I love the rice water leave-in conditioner from Fro.ology. I found them on my weekly Etsy deep dive and haven’t looked back. You collaborated with Fossil watches for the new Space Jam movie and included your younger brother in the project! Was it fun working with family? I loved every moment of it. Any opportunity I get to work with family will always be cherished, plus it’s another excuse for me to boss them around. It sort of goes with the territory! DAILYFRONTROW.COM

Great Escape As we reemerge into the world, Nicole Miller’s optimistic nature was the inspiration for her recent Resort collection. She tells THE DAILY SUMMER how our reset on life inspired her and the tried-and-true look that’s making a major comeback! What did you have in mind when you were creating your Resort collection? I was just feeling like a breath of fresh air and optimistic about the post-pandemic era. I loved the idea of a vacation that did not require airplane travel. I think everyone likes the idea of being outdoors and not in enclosed spaces after the year we had. What kind of prints and colors did you work with to represent the optimism in the air? Because I was feeling outdoorsy, I did an updated version of camouflage with animals on it. It has a bit of a safari vibe. I wanted to do some florals because I just love springtime when all the flowers start to bloom and I think it gives everyone a lift after the winter months. The collection has a nice contrast of femininity and sportiness. I channeled my inner tomgirl. Did you have any inspiring images or references for this collection? I loved the idea of high-end safaris in Africa, where you’re camping but you get fivestar accommodations. You shot your campaign at Collective Retreats. For those unfamiliar, can you fill us in on what that is? Collective Retreats is a luxury campground on Governors Island with a restaurant and bar on the property and air-conditioning and bathrooms in every tent. You’re not exactly roughing it! It still has a great camping vibe, and you can take bike rides around the island. You can get there easily by subway and ferry. What was the day like on set? Part of the team went the first night to bring the clothing and set up. The rest of the team came early the next day. Of course, we picked one of the hottest days of the summer to shoot. We used two models, so the day went quite smoothly. Do you predict a return to women wearing dresses in a big way? We’ve seen a tremendous return to dresses. For Fall, we had shown a lot of pants and now the customers are begging for dresses, so we made them a big part of the Resort collection. How did you go about your model casting for the lookbook? We did an extensive casting, but it was important to find girls who worked in that environment. We had done all our looks on Tricia Baptiste, so she was an obvious choice. I loved the idea of one girl in braids, and Liv Solo was the perfect model for that. Also, I love having a redhead in the mix. Where are some of your favorite places to escape to? I love Sag Harbor and the Hamptons. It’s a great escape for me on the weekends. My favorite vacations are always St. Barth’s and Aspen. What have you missed most about travel, and what did you do this summer? My two vacations this summer were canceled! I was headed to Wyntoon in Northern California, but the air quality had gotten severe due to fires in the area, so that was called off. Then I was going to a wedding in Pakistan, but my return flight was canceled through Dubai and it was too difficult to change. So it looks like my summer will be spent in Sag Harbor! Your Nicole Miller rosé has been a passion project. Tell us a little about it. It’s made in Bordeaux. It’s made of cabernet franc,

cabernet sauvignon, and merlot grapes. It’s full-bodied but dry, and everyone seems to be very fond of it. It’s delicious. Where can people find it in the Hamptons? It’s at Le Bilboquet, Dopo la Spiaggia, and Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor. You can also buy it at Cavaniola’s Gourmet and McNamara Liquors, and online at wineexpress.com. Can you give us any hint on what your Spring collection will look like? It will be happy and bright! Are you showing in September at NYFW? We’re sticking with the digital format but may have a live show in the spring. What has been your best professional lesson in the past year? Keep moving forward. There’s always an opportunity, even when things look dismal. We all went through a lot last year and did all we could to get through, and now there’s light at the end of the tunnel! What have you been doing to relax this summer? Drinking a lot of rosé, of course! We spent a lot of time out on the water. I’m a big water skier and wake boarder, and I go every week. This year I’m trying to wake surf. You’ll also find us out boating, sailing, and kayaking— whatever we can do to be outside and in the water! I love to go clamming, and I cook and entertain a lot, so my weekends are packed.

Style& Substance These hardworking East End moms are going above and beyond when it comes to influencing the way the world is advancing. THE DAILY SUMMER and Max Mara have come together this summer to celebrate these notable names and all that they’ve achieved in their personal and professional lives. From leaders at the helm of a hospitality world institution and an emerging wine brand and to the vision behind thought-provoking public art projects and a fashion fan who’s created a solace for working women, let’s hear it for the girls! By FREYA DROHAN

Sarah Wetenhall Describe yourself in five words. Organized. Discerning. Kind. Creative. Strong. What Hamptons hamlet do you live in and why? East Hampton village. We moved here 15 years ago. It was a natural choice for us as my husband’s family has a home in the village and we have many friends nearby. Best shopping in the Hamptons routine? Henry Lehr and Kirna Zabête for in-person. I must admit, I’m addicted to Net-a-Porter deliveries, too. Morning routine? I read The East Hampton Star and the Palm Beach Daily News first thing. There’s nothing like local journalism to get to the heart of what’s going on in a community. Wellness musts? I practice yoga regularly with my teacher, Erika Halweil. I aspire to stop using my SoulCycle bike as a clothing rack, but so far that hasn’t happened! I also enjoy a friendly game of tennis and golf on the weekends. What led you to where you are now? I feel that The Colony picked me, more than the other way around. My father-in-law owned the hotel from the 1960s through the mid 1990s, so it has always been a part of the Wetenhall family tradition. Even after it passed out of our ownership, my father-in-law resided there, hence I have been a guest at The Colony since my college days! When [my husband] Andrew and I had the opportunity to purchase the hotel and bring it back into the family, we knew immediately that we must do it and that it would be my role to oversee the reinvigoration of the brand. It was the culmination of decades of hopes and dreams, and hence it felt completely natural. What’s next? Surprising and delighting guests and making sure they are desiring more. We’re hard at work planning the renovation of our 80 guest rooms and suites and developing some exciting retail partnerships.

Executive Director of Art Production Fund Describe yourself in five words. New Yorker, working mom, chef ’s wife. (That’s six, but I tried, and of course, that’s in no particular order!) What Hamptons hamlet do you live in and why? Bridgehampton. It's my family's home, which is wonderful because we’re close. And it means built-in child care! I love how low-key Bridgehampton is, but it's also perfectly central, which means you can get everywhere without too much of a headache. Favorite Hamptons restaurant? Carissa’s and Yama-Q, but my father loves to cook and I’m married to a chef, so we eat mostly at home. What’s your go-to look for day or night? For day, an oversize button-down and boxer shorts or sweatpants. For night, ETRO shorts, a cropped Hommegirls button-down, and Chanel slingback heels. East End shopping secrets? I rarely shop for clothes while I’m here, but I love Saks delivery and that Gucci is back in East Hampton. Beauty shops like Botanica Bazaar and Knockout Beauty, and Loaves & Fishes Cookshop and Sylvester & Co. in Sag Harbor for hostess gifts. Your ultimate power outfit? My go-to is a camel Max Mara suit. I have like three variations depending on the season, and they never fail to make me feel pulled together and powerful. I discovered the brand years ago through its generous support of the Coalition for the Homeless. It has always been a brand that I loved.

Cori Lee Seaberg

Co-Founder and President, Out East Rosé Describe yourself in five words. Passionate. Humble. Kind. Witty. Fashion lover! Shopping favorites? Michelle Farmer in Southampton for beautiful and unique wardrobe pieces. I also love The Monogram Shop in East Hampton for personalized gifts. Being from the South, we always had everything monogrammed, from clothing to table linens! Favorite Hamptons restaurant? Le Bilboquet in Sag Harbor. I love the ambiance and energy. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy beautiful outdoor dining overlooking the harbor, and I can enjoy a glass of

Out East Rosé! What do you do for “me” time? I love taking Pilates, and my new favorite summer workout is Isaac Boots’ class in Wainscott. He has such amazing energy and his workout is killer! Get ready to sweat! What led you to where you are now? Being an entrepreneur and starting your own business is certainly not easy! I’m where I am today because of the support I’ve received from my husband and my family, along with my passion and hard work ethic. No job is ever too small. When it’s your own company, you will wear many hats and have your hands in everything. I always knew I wanted to build something and be able to call something. I’m proud of Out East and how far it’s come in just a few years.

Founder of Maison Backstory, please! Two-and-a-half years ago I opened Maison—a members’ club designed for women looking for space to prioritize themselves and a place where they can come together at the intersection of work, wellness, and motherhood. After I had my second child, working from home was impossible and I longed for like-minded women to enrich my communal life. I wanted more than a workspace and more than a place to be social. I wanted to learn and be exposed to new ideas, have some quiet time, and have fun—all things that had been a little dormant since I started having kids! I love being a mom, but I also love other things. Having a place like Maison to reengage with the intellectual and creative parts of myself has been such a gift. What Hamptons hamlet do you live in and why? Southampton. I love it here, and I think it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world. To be totally honest, we chose Southampton so we don’t have to compete with too much traffic! What are you passionate about? My work with the Southampton Fresh Air Home, a nonprofit residential camp offering summer sessions and year-round programs and opportunities for youth with physical disabilities. SFAH’s intention is to provide enriching experiences that help children with physical disabilities develop a sense of community and a sense of belonging. Being a part of SFAH’s board and working with its compassionate staff and meeting its incredible campers and joyful children has given me far more than I can give them. Shopping secrets you can share? I love shopping at Clic in East Hampton. [Founder] Christiane Celle has such a good eye and an approach to fashion I relate to—casual but elegant! I also love giving books, so I usually pop into Southampton Books or Sag Harbor Books and spend tons of time browsing before I find just the right one. DAILYFRONTROW.COM

HeavenSCENT

Sam & Libby

DYNAMIC DUO

The Sam Edelman brand has long since had you covered from tip to toe—and now visionary couple Libby and Sam Edelman are ensuring you leave a memorable trace wherever you go with the launch of their first eau de parfum, Signature by Sam Edelman. The evocative scent is inspired by things near and dear to the pair—including green florals and woody notes inspired by equestrian influences—resulting in a fragrance that’s both empowering and sensual. Just like putting on your favorite heels before you leave home! Here’s how it came to be.

You both have so many passions! Have you discovered any new hobbies or interests? Libby Edelman: Photography has always been a hobby and something I did for fun, but I was able to refine the skill and put it to good use over the past 18 months. During the pandemic, we had to rethink our creative processes. We weren’t able to get big teams together to shoot a campaign as we have done in the past. So we hired a model and I shot safely, and from afar, outside. I’ve been shooting all the campaigns since! Another string to your bow! Libby: It has been incredible to watch it all come full circle. I think you’ll find the Fall ’21 collection and marketing feel very cohesive and true to who Sam and I are because we were able to have full control of the story from start to finish. What are some other positives you’re taking away from the past 18 months? Libby: We’ve worked nonstop. During those first few months, it almost felt as if we had just started the brand again. It was intense, but it gave us the chance to stop and think about how we wanted to be seen by our customers. We wanted to take what we’re already known for— attainable luxury product—and bring it to the next level. How did you do that? Libby: We introduced new logos and changed the socks of the shoes; we focused on updating our materials; bringing in luxe Italian leathers, suedes, and more. We developed gorgeous new linen boxes and introduced catalogs to tell the full brand story in our customers’ homes. We’ve already seen such success from the changes we implemented. Why did the time feel right to create the brand’s first fragrance, Signature? Sam Edelman: Self-expression is so important. What better way to tell the world who you are than with a signature scent? Our goal was to create a scent that’s uplifting and aspirational. We searched for notes that are undeniably unique and shared the same irreverence and whimsicality of the brand, while still capturing the important earmarks of our heritage. The bottle is très chic! Libby: It’s a representation of the same craftsmanship and design ethos found in our footwear. The final product is an interpretation of a physical shoe, taking the shape of a heel. We wanted a bottle that felt fresh and modern while intrinsically representing Sam Edelman at its core. And of course, located on the front face of the bottle, our logo, which is derived from my own signature! What’s the reason for the name Signature? Sam: My signature is what makes me unique. It’s the mark I leave on this world and has been shaped by a lifetime of memories and experiences—it's the brand's logo. I wanted to create a scent for those who aspire; those who crave expression and encourage them to find their own signature. What are some of your earliest or most nostalgic memories of scent or fragrance? Libby: I remember looking at all the bottles on

my mother’s vanity; she kept them beautifully lined up on a mirrored tray. When she would go out to dinner, I would go into her room and admire them. That memory has always stayed with me and helped inspire our bottle design—knowing we wanted it to stand out on a tray and be a true piece of art. Sam: My mom wore one fragrance my entire life, Caleche. I remember it as such a demure scent, and I think of her if ever I get a trace of the smell. My father had gifted it to her early on, and she never strayed from it; it became her signature. Do you remember what fragrance Libby wore when you first started dating? Sam: Libby will tell you she didn’t wear any fragrance, but I vividly remember her wearing an iconic Christian Dior perfume. It was such a sophisticated scent! You met when Libby was still in the publishing world. What drew you to each other? Libby: I was an editor at Seventeen magazine around the time Sam and I started dating. I remember collecting Esprit catalogs and thinking it was a dream company to work for. Shortly after we got married, Sam was offered a job at Esprit and we started working together there. It was as if the stars had aligned and we were fated to work together! We learned how well we complemented each other in a creative environment and we’ve been working together ever since. Sam: I always knew we would work together, Libby’s such a powerful woman and has always brought out the best in me. Now I have the pleasure of working with two powerful women in the industry, Libby and our CEO, Diane Sullivan. We each bring different skills to the table, and I think we balance each other out beautifully. They inspire me and my work every day. What’s been on the moodboard for Fall ‘21? Sam: Our customer is ready to go out again and dress up, so we’ve introduced new dress options and fun heel shapes. The collection is a study of contrasts—a perfect balance of relaxed, comfortable shapes mixed with luxe mixed materials for a sophisticated, tailored look. Libby: We’re excited for vintage menswear-inspired silhouettes and platforms, our chunky loafers, and waterproof styles to help you brave the elements while staying fashionable. Tonal dressing is another one of our key trends for the season. You’re both heavily involved in philanthropy. How does this influence your day-to-day lives and decisions as leaders? Libby: Life is more than just working; it’s about giving back however you can. We both are teachers at heart and love mentoring young talent. Our philanthropy over the past 20 years has gone to many organizations within the industry. We have scholarships within the Two Ten Footwear Organization and consistently support breast cancer research through the work of the Fashion Footwear Association of New York. What’s the next big dream project to work on? Sam: We recently welcomed our sixth granddaughter into the world and are overjoyed! All I can think about is taking them shopping and sharing the many places and people that have inspired me as a designer. Libby: We hope to find a real balance between nature and soul, between the world and fashion, the customer and our lives, her needs and how we relate to her, how we talk to her, and how we design for her. It’s what we do every day, it’s how we live our life. For example, last night we spent half our dinner talking to two young women sitting at the next table about what they love in dresses and shoes! We also want to explode our vision into denim and sportswear in that wonderful Sam Edelman style.

DRIVING?

Shanina Shaik

You can learn a lot about a person by the way they drive, so we were curious: What kind of driver are you? Chicsters tell all! By EDDIE ROCHE “I just started driving! After living in New York for 10 years I never had to drive. Now, I’m driving around Los Angeles, and I don’t mind it. I like to stick to the rules while I drive. SERVICE

Meet Benjamin Vaschetti, the dapper former private chef to the Greek royal family who’s bringing his refined sense of regal excellence into a home near you. Along with his wife, Natalia, the Frenchman has launched Maison Benjamin—a lifestyle concierge service that aims to make you feel like you live in a luxury boutique hotel. THE DAILY SUMMER caught up with the five-star living mastermind to hear about some of his wildest client encounters and where he goes when he wants to be pampered himself.

or managing staff and maintenance on a property. We’re choreographing and synchronizing events perfectly down to the minute to create unforgettable experiences. What party this summer has been your favorite so far? I have to say our ETRO luncheon with The Daily Summer was pretty special, and definitely a highlight of my season! Same! Can you share some of the craziest requests you’ve had from clients? The craziest requests are typically the ones that take up a lot of time on short notice. Once, I had to interrupt my vacation in Thailand to handle a dinner for a VIP client. I took five last-minute, backto-back flights across three continents to make it to Harbour Island in the Bahamas on time, then started cooking immediately upon arrival. One other unusual request was when a client forgot to pack undergarments for a trip! I had to pick up the bag from Monte Carlo and drive it to Portofino (a three-hour ride!) where their yacht was departing from. At the end of the day, our clients’ satisfaction is the most important and rewarding experience; it’s our raison d’être. What’s your own favorite spot to visit when you want the crème de la crème of service? I love the Surf Club residences at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami Beach. It’s an elegant oasis and a relaxing home away from home. And lastly, what are you looking forward to this fall? We’ll be following our clients and the warm weather to Miami and Palm Beach. Watch this space!

By ALEX BLYNN Bonjour, Ben! Comment allez-vous? Ça va très bien, merci! Et vous? Fantastic! How’s your summer? Has it felt like a return to normal for the business? It certainly has felt like a return to normal. People were eager to entertain, celebrate, and create memories with friends and family again. There was a lot of joy in preparing for cocktail parties and intimate dinners. To me, there’s nothing better than good food, good wine, and good company all in one place. Maison Benjamin offers many bespoke services, including culinary. What has everyone been asking for these days? We’ve been busy with an influx of requests for our signature intimate dinners. Though our property management services have also been popular; we come into clients’ summer homes here in the Hamptons and run them like a boutique hotel, creating an elevated vacation and fine-dining experience in the comfort of their own spaces. Maison Benjamin also offers lifestyle services and property management. How does your team make VIP clients’ lives easier? We’re here to take care of the things that clients may not necessarily want or have time to look after themselves. Depending on the day, we could be sourcing the perfect outdoor furniture, buying gourmet groceries, running errands, handling maintenance around the property, and everything in between! When it comes to managing someone’s home, what kind of details does your team never miss? Because we’re a boutique concierge service, we’re personally looking after every single detail. Unlike other services, we’re not managing anything remotely. Topnotch luxury hospitality is entirely in the details. It’s almost an art form, whether we’re serving a five-course meal, arranging a travel itinerary to a remote destination,

Design for Living BY EDDIE ROCHE What’s your professional background? After graduating from college, I worked on Capitol Hill, which translated into a 10year career in federal government affairs. Both private-sector jobs were with U.S.based trade associations. The first was based in D.C. and I lobbied on behalf of CEOs of the top 100 financial-services firms; the second was choicely headquartered in Manhattan, where I was hired as the first in-house lobbyist for the toy industry. You ended up working for architect Peter Marino. What did you learn from him? DESIGN STAR To wholeheartedly embrace my own creative curiosities Sandel and and artistic passions. Once I allowed myself to dig his team are deeper and plug into those intuitions, everything aligned motivated to create a unique for me to translate a passion for design into a profession. space for clients. I admire and am often reminded of Peter’s fiery commitment to his work and to his refined vision. His masterful approach of marrying architecture, art, and interiors on a grand scale has inspired my own process. What made you want to get into interior design? I’ve reimagined living spaces for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I would rearrange our neighbor’s living room when left to dog-sit over a weekend. That impulse continued throughout my twenties in friends’ apartments after a few glasses of wine. It’s part of my DNA to seek out the beauty and best use for a space. And while my parents nurtured that impulse and creativity at home, it never felt like an option for me to make design a career. It was the move to New York, coupled with the untimely death of my mother that compelled me to further explore my passion for interiors and live the life I always imagined. What are some of your design inspirations? I draw the bulk of my creative energy and inspiration from living in New York City. Particularly the neighborhoods to and from my home in the West Village and my office on Union Square. I’m constantly discovering architectural details as the seasonal light illuminates building façades. Window boxes full of color in spring and summer that give way to the neighborhoods bronzed, cool exterior of fall and winter. The patina of gates and railings meet polished restaurant fronts, all speaking to the city’s rich past and hopeful present. As it is with the start of a new project, these neighborhoods regularly provide a sense of excitement and possibility around each corner. The smart use of space and high regard for landmarked architecture is referenced on every block. This energy and sensibility speak to me deeply and regularly finds its way into my design methodology. What differentiates you from other designers? My firm is not about creating a brand, and it’s not centered around a social media following. It’s first about the client experience and fostering a meaningful relationship along the way. I believe we’ve arrived at a place where clients insist on a deeper connection with how they spend their time and a deeper meaning to the things and experiences they invest their money in. I started my own firm because I enjoy being an integral part of the design process alongside my clients. And while I rely on a great team to help manage project details, it still excites me to do the research, dig through books for inspiration, and walk the space before, during, and after the project is complete. Ultimately, these projects are also the clients we have for life, because the feeling the finished space evokes leaves an indelible impression. What are your favorite kinds of projects to work on? I enjoy the process that comes with home renovations. Particularly when we’re able to

DAILYFRONTROW.COM

Summer4_PeterSandel_TOSHIP_GB.indd 1

walk the existing space with the client and use a guttural response to reimagine how they could utilize the new space. I have projects where the programming phase begins well before the client has even closed on the property. There’s something spiritual about seeing the potential in an older home, and then putting together the team to help make that vision a reality for our clients. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good before and after photo? What has been your proudest moment as a designer? I’m proud of the resilient business I’ve built and remain grateful for the continued growth we experienced in the face of a global pandemic. COVID-19 has certainly challenged the way we all work, but it’s also brought out the best in many in our industry. Our showroom partners work overtime with us to ensure our clients’ orders stay on track, and our workrooms continue to impeccably deliver on the ideas and concepts we submit for bespoke custom furniture. Are there any similarities between design and politics? Absolutely! Advocacy, relationships, and trust are at the heart of both. As designers, we are first advocates on behalf of our clients’ interests. It’s the network of professional relationships we call on to navigate obstacles, find the best solutions, and ensure our clients’ interests are met and maintained. Without trust, the process cannot exist. What’s your design vibe? The PSD vibe can be described as “refined yet relatable; personalized through layers.” We’re motivated to create something unique for every client and prefer to design spaces that feel more curated and collected than decorated. We achieve this by creating a dialogue that harmonizes client interests, contemporary aesthetics, and classical references. This philosophy plays a binding role throughout our design process. Therefore, our portfolio is not tied to any one signature style but highlights a range of approaches unified in fresh finishes, custom upholstery, antique and vintage furnishings, modern and contemporary artwork, and fervid dedication to quality craftsmanship. What’s the best thing about working with you and your team? Authenticity is magnetic. When I started thinking about the concept of our new design studio, I knew I wanted the space to be filled with all the genuine aspects of design that help us develop personal and unique spaces for our clients. The feel of a drawer pull, the texture of a wall covering, the grain of wood flooring, and the “hand” of fabric all become more comprehensible and real when experienced together. MAX BURKHALTER (1); KYLE KNODELL (1); RYAN MCDONALD (1); SHUTTERSTOCK (1)

After spending so much time at home, we’ve all had a moment to rethink how we want to live. Manhattan-based interior designer Peter Sandel of Peter Sandel Design is here to help you create your dream home with his refined yet relatable approach.

Checking IN! By FREYA DROHAN

How did a European find his way to Montauk?

What are some of your favorite memories from back then?

I was born in Cyprus. I was escaping and somehow ended up in Montauk! Life is a huge circle. I lived in NYC for 20 years, but I came out to the little island. I started working at The Surf Lodge in 2009.

Life was a little simpler. Everything was a little more local, more mom-and-pop shops. We used to all go to O’Sullivan’s at 4 a.m. and get breakfast after work. Now it’s totally different, but I like the fact that so many great places and restaurants have opened up. How did you become involved with Montauk Beach House? I met Larry Siedlick, the owner, through a common friend. At the time, Larry was doing some regime

That must feel like another lifetime! Back then, the town was very different. No one even took credit cards! There was one ATM and it would run out of money by Thursday, so there’d be no cash!

changing. He asked me what I thought. I said I loved it—I used to come here as a customer—but I told him what else needed to be done right and he agreed with me. He asked me if I wanted to come on board, and I started with the hotel in 2014. We opened Left Hand Coffee the following year! What were those changes you recommended, and how have you implemented them? To focus more on hospitality, and less on the party side

hotel, and we’ve got a brand-new garden, sponsored by Tanqueray. It’s perfect for intimate events, like a sunset toast or vow renewals. We have another artist, Johnny Miller, redoing the mural behind the DJ booth, too. Is incorporating more art a new focus for the hotel? It’s not a new focus, but it’s matured on its own in a way. I think the fact that there was a bit of a buzz about the artist collaborations means we’re now being approached by bigger names. What’s coming up? On September 11, we will be hosting the annual AWOW “Give a Sea of Love” fundraiser, which benefits A Walk on Water, a nonprofit organization that provides surf therapy for children and young adults with special needs. We’ve been a proud sponsor and host since 2015. Our own creative director, Walt Lindveld, is the team lead of the East Coast chapter, and his son, Clash, is also an AWOW athlete. Tell us some new food and beverage highlights. We’re eyeing that Serafina tiramisu! I hear from guests that they think the food has changed

so much. They just love it! Serafina is a restaurant that I worked in when I first moved here, and I always liked the tiramisu. We give it out to guests, and it’s a nice touch. The pizza here is amazing, too! How did Left Hand Coffee come to fruition? I started coming here 12 years ago, and I would say, “I love this place, but there’s nowhere I can get good coffee!” One day I was talking to Larry and we decided to open something instead of complaining. I had worked in the city with some world-champion baristas. Larry and I brought in beans from countries on the water and surf destinations like Costa Rica and Brazil. People took a liking to us. Everyone that comes to Montauk, it’s become one of the places they always go. Before you go, tell us how you take your coffee. I drink way too much to have milk in it! My ritual is two espressos in the morning, followed by a cold brew and another espresso in the afternoon. Wow! Then I have to cut myself off, but with 14 or 15 hour days, it’s nonstop!

of things. Less loud, Miami-style parties with big DJs. I didn’t think it was sustainable—hotels can’t do that if they want to survive long-term. Hotel guests aren't appreciative of 600 people jumping around! So we wanted to steer away from that. Better food, better drinks. Make people want to come back year after year. We killed the big parties, and made it more “loungey.” What kind of people gravitate toward the hotel? Being that it’s Montauk, you get all kinds! With COVID, we’ve seen a massive influx of people escaping from the city. They want to stay somewhere great, but not necessarily The Ritz. They want to have fun, and be in the sun listening to a DJ, but not nightclub-duringthe-day vibes, and definitely nothing pretentious. It’s a more sophisticated, elevated crowd. You’ve had so many “happenings” this summer! It’s been a busy summer! People are in a much better mood after being cooped up, and they’re ready to enjoy life again. We did some great artist collaborations. It’s the first time we had NFTs as part of our rotation. It was not only entertaining, but we discovered how many people don’t know about them. We’ve had mural artists transform parts of the hotel. At night, it looks great with the fire pits! Greg Mike redid the statue outside the

THE KEYS TO

SUCCESS In the world of Hamptons real estate, Saunders & Associates is a go-to for discerning buyers seeking their dream homes. Terry Cohen and her unique team of interior designer Jon Vaccari, data analyst Bayard Fenwick, and Alexandra Winter have been working tirelessly to make sure their client’s home-buying experiences are second to none. By ALEX BLYNN Terry, what makes the Terry Cohen team stand out? Terry Cohen: The key to success for a real estate team is first and foremost trust and a sense of loyalty. My team is unique because each member brings his or her own set of talents within their areas of expertise—be it design, building, finance, what have you. We’re always communicating with one another about our buyers and sellers. It keeps us all familiar with one another’s relationships, so the clients

are always getting the benefit of a full team perspective. That also gives the client a broader scope of knowledge! As an early hire, how does it feel to be an integral part of Saunders & Associates meteoric rise? Cohen: I feel pride! I’m so happy to see Andrew and Colleen Saunders’ success. If you think I work hard, they definitely have me beat! Success doesn’t just happen; it comes from hard work and tons of effort, and I think our work ethics align nicely. You’ve sold well over $1 billion in real estate during the course of your career. What does that number represent to you today? Cohen: Hopefully a lot of happy people! Our business is largely referral based, which tells me our clients and customers are happy with our work. A referral is the best compliment to what I have done in my career. Every property we represent is equally exciting to our team. I want each and every client we work with to be happy with their decision. We strive to always do a good job for sellers and buyers; the numbers don’t matter to us.

94 SAYRES PATH, WAINSCOTT This East End oasis is a contemporary shingle-style, six-bedroom, six-bathroom home with expansive views. It’s situated less than a mile from the ocean.

What are Hamptons buyers looking for these days? Cohen: Buyers are looking for clarity in the market. They want breadth of knowledge and to make decisions based on that. They want to work with someone they can trust in and provide them with the tools to make the right decisions. Do you feel like things are back to normal? Better than normal? Cohen: I feel this is a continuum of a developing “new normal.” During the pandemic, people fell in love with the East End like never before, and we have a stronger market because of that. These are no longer just summer homes, and the silver lining is, with more year-round residents, the economy and infrastructure here will likely improve. Jon, before joining the Cohen team in 2015, you were already a successful interior designer. What drew you to switching gears and getting into sales in the Hamptons? Jon Vaccari: It was a natural progression. As a designer, I’m often brought in to advise on homes—how to improve their flow, the best way to complete renovations. Real estate was an attractive option, because I also brought experience from renovating homes myself in the past. I knew from my background that I could add value. Bayard, you joined the team in 2019, making you a somewhat recent addition to this winning venture! What’s been the most exciting deal you’ve been a part of since partnering with Terry? Bayard Fenwick: Since day one the team has had instant synergy. Shortly after joining, I sold a waterfront house in North Haven. That same client decided to buy the neighboring property, but the deal ended up falling apart. Months later, we were able to put it back together with my new team’s involvement, and it was successfully resuscitated. The buyer was pleased with this full circle transaction, and we were happy to be able to get the buyer the property they wanted. What are your plans for Labor Day Weekend? Cohen: I love to golf, or go on the boat with my family. I’ve gotten good at wake surfing! Vaccari: Hopefully waterskiing and taking advantage of the East End waterfront restaurants with my family. Fenwick: Hang with my family, then squeeze in some surfing! Alexandra Winter: Labor Day is bittersweet for me because it signals the end of traditional summer, but the Hamptons still thrive well into the fall! I’m looking forward to creating new relationships and helping to build the bright future of the Terry Cohen team—and hopefully I can also squeeze in a few extra days at the beach!

BestKEPT SECRET

Douglas Elliman’s Kyle Rosko and Marcy Braun are on a roll this year with another magnificent home ready for new owners. The duo is representing a one-of-a-kind Wainscott property, in addition to several new builds on the way. They tell THE DAILY SUMMER about this spectacular waterfront estate on nearly 14 acres on Georgica Pond. How did this property come to you? Kyle Rosko: The 30 Mathews Road property in Wainscott came about because I’ve been working with Stefan Soloviev. He’s is the heir to the Sheldon Solow family. We’ve been buying properties on the North Fork together, and we built a relationship many years ago. It’s worked out well. Unfortunately, his father passed away last year, and this was the home that he built as his dream home. It was built by renowned builder Ben

Krupinski, who was a good friend of his. They built the house together in 2009. What is it about this place that makes it one of a kind? Rosko: It’s an ultra special property because of the privacy levels you achieve. The waterfront wraps almost in a complete peripheral vision from your backyard. You step onto the back porch and you look south into the water into the ocean. You’re surrounded by water 100 percent from eye to eye. You don’t see anything

THE WOW FACTOR This spectacular estate on nearly 14 bucolic acres boasts more than 800 feet of water frontage and stunning views of Georgica Pond and the Atlantic Ocean.

but water. It gives you a sense of being on an island. It’s on Georgica Pond, otherwise known as Golden Pond because the real estate values are quite high. The privacy levels are uncompromised. There’s a bald eagle that lives in a tree on the south portion of the property. Every time you walk into the property in the backyard, the bald eagle will get down over the water and run away from you. Marcy Braun: I would say unequivocally the placement on Georgica Pond with views from all areas of the sprawling home make it unique, including the view of the ocean beyond the pond’s cut. The absolute privacy is also not easily replicated. It looks like a great place to entertain. Rosko: We had an open house recently and 20 brokers stopped by on the two great lawns. You could have 250 in the backyard comfortably. It would be spectacular. What’s the inside of the house like? Rosko: It’s a Paul Rice design. He’s a prominent architect out here. It’s a seven-bedroom house. There’s a magnificent pool house and garage area that’s completely separate from the house. There’s beautiful covered porches and a giant master bedroom porch that overlooks the water. The finished lower level offers open recreation space, a home theater, gym with steam shower, along with a seventh bedroom and the ability for an eighth bedroom. Braun: Another quality is that you can subdivide the 14 acres into two separate waterfront panels with two separate homes, two separate pool houses, and two separates tennis courts if you’d like. What are some other draws? Rosko: This was a raw piece of land, and the gorgeous landscaping has a lot to do with Stefan, who owns multiple tree farms out here. He’s got a green thumb and a big eye for beauty. He had some influence on the landscaping. It incorporates natural elements along with beautiful accent trees. There are lemon and lime trees planted for the season every year at the house. Braun: The screened-in porch offers a beautiful perspective of the home’s placement on the pond. What else are you working on right now? Rosko: We’ve got one special Southampton property, south of the highway, that’s being developed. It’s a six-bedroom property, more than half an acre with a beautiful pool house. It’s an old structure on the property that’s two stories and 680 square feet on the base level with a second story. To have a second structure of that magnitude is pretty special. Braun: We’ve closed a few special waterfront properties, as well as a stunning property at 1899 Noyac Path in Sag Harbor. We’re excited to bring to market a few fabulous new projects with the same development group. Rosko: These new projects include a 12,000-square-foot Water Mill property that’s going to be in the $7 million range. These new constructions are significant because there aren’t a lot available. We’re excited to be working with some prominent developers here and offering their properties. It’s an exciting part of the market right now. There aren’t just brand-new homes less than $8 million, and we have a lot to offer! You’ve had a busy summer! Rosko: We’ve been jamming! Braun: Was it summer?
