DOG TALK! Stacy Keibler at Vera Wang
With Candy Pratts Price How long have you known Vera? Since she was an editor at Vogue, although I wasn’t at Vogue then. Now we see each other in the Hamptons and get together for dinner. How would you describe her? Down in that heart, there is always that Vogue editor who makes her process of designing ever so difficult for the people surrounding her. She is quite generous to her friends and very focused on being a woman. She’d be really good on television! Do you have any pets? I do. I’ve always had wire-haired fox terriers, and we just got a Blue Heeler, which is an Australian border collie. It’s a herding dog. She’s black and white, six months old and super fabulous. How are things at Vogue? Things are great. I’m ‘at large’ so I get to see it from the inside and the out.

BREKKIE BREAK!
With Kate and Laura Mulleavy
your daily dose
What was your favorite game to role play when you were kids? Kate: Clue. But that’s obvious. Laura: I liked to play library. And then I ended up working at a library in college! Kate: We liked to stamp things. Who’s the sassiest? Kate: We’re pretty sweetnatured people. When you look in the mirror, what do you say to yourself? Laura: “Cool.”
SCENE
Back-to-back shows. Tuesday morning started off with a star sighting at Vera—Stacy Keibler, in fact, leading the front row to speculate that Wang is designing a bridal dress for her rumored wedding to George Clooney. Where is Larry Hackett when we need him? ☛ The usual suspects hit Eyebeam for Rodarte…and then migrated downtown for an afterhours afterparty at Acme.
With Susan Kaufman, People StyleWatch EDITRIX We always see you in the cafeteria. What do you get there? Two eggs, blueberry and pineapple, and Dunkin Donuts coffee. It’s the first place I go when I get to the office! Which other Time Inc. editors are you chummy with? A lot of them! Jess Cagle from Entertainment Weekly, Ariel Foxman, Constance White. Do have any pets? I have a yellow lab named Jackson. When I got older and saw people treating their animals like children, I thought they were insane, and then my husband and I got Jackson and became those people! You’ve been mentioned as a contender to take over T. Me? Are you sure about that? That’s hysterical.
T TIME!
COFFIN TALK!
With Linda Fargo at Narciso Rodriguez Bergdorf’s turned 111; what do you hope to be like when you hit that age? I have a feeling I’m going to be sleeping by then. Permanently! OK. So will you be donning the same great getups? Trust me, I’m not leaving it to chance what they bury me in. Morbid much?! So what might it look like? It will probably have feathers. It will be a great fantasy piece. Ha! What won’t you be caught dead wearing? Uggs.
With Stefano Tonchi Did you see our media issue? Yes! I was very happy about what your newsstand guy said. Thank you for making me look so good! Our pleasure. What’s new at W? We’re gearing up for our big anniversary issue. It’s not only a big financial milestone, because there are so many ad pages, but it’s a great moment celebrating 40 years of W. I went through the archives and created some incredible pages. We also have a book coming out about the magazine. Mr. [John] Fairchild, believe it or not, wrote the forward. All those stories about him hating W…We had lunch and he was very nice to me. What did you think of his recent Vanity Fair profile? It covered all the things that we’ve already heard about. To mention that he doesn’t want to do anything with W was a very strange way of positioning Mr. Fairchild, because if you read the quotes, he said that when he left, he didn’t want to look back. He didn’t want to be part of the gossip machine. Who do you think will take over T? There are a lot of great candidates. They should look into the visual arena, and find someone with a vision. Especially when you have a newspaper that is about news, the magazine has to be the place to dream. That was always my idea for T. To be a good journalist is not enough.

BAND AID!
With Girls’ Zosia Mamet at Marc by Marc Jacobs Any new hobbies? My sister and I just started a band. It’s bluegrass folk music. That’s been consuming a lot of my energy. I don’t know how good we are yet! What’s the band called? The Cabin Sisters. It’s a little secret between sisters… Do you two hang out a lot? Quite a lot! I’d say she’s my best friend in the whole world. Now that you’ve started a band, what else do you and your sister have on your bucket list? We’ve always wanted to drive across the country together, in some sort of vehicle that moves. G E T T Y ( 3 ) , P M C ( 2 ) , B F A N Y C . I can’t wait to see Jessica Chastain in The Heiress. She’s incredibly versatile. She can do it all and it’s such a brilliant play. I’ve got it marked on the calendar with a big red circle. On the cover:
Tell us about Karlie’s Kookies! They are vegan and gluten-free—a little agave, a little olive oil, dark chocolate chips, and toasted almond. It’s heaven that melts in your mouth! Do you make them at home? For health reasons, they are from the amazing kitchen of Momofuku Milk Bar in Brooklyn. I love going there and scoping cookies between shows and fittings. It’s very therapeutic to make things and share them with people. The proceeds go to FEED, so each cookie will provide 10 meals to hungry children around the world. Would you ever go to culinary school? Absolutely! It’s on my list, and so is Harvard Business School. What about a cookbook? That’s on the list. I have a few things to do before then. I’m about to start filming House of Style for MTV with Joan Smalls as my co-host. We knew you were going to get that gig! It’s going to be fun! We start filming at Anna Sui. We’re going to be interviewing people backstage. The original was such an amazing show. Who’s your dream interview? Cindy Crawford! We’ve been tweeting at one another. Always good to see you! When were you last in France? We go to Paris twice a year. We go to the South of France in the summer. We go to Monte Carlo. We’re a little Francophileish. We go quite a bit. Do you eat baguettes? I eat everything! Are you keeping up with your exercise? I do a little speed walking and cardio. That’s enough. Let’s not get carried away. I don’t want to not be able to fit into my suits if I get too skinny. We take it you’re an All My Children fan. I know Erica Kane like I know my whole life!
Congratulations on your goddaughter Katie Johnson being named LA’s Hottest Trainer by Racked! How did you know that? We take her class at Physique 57 whenever we’re in town. Oh, how wonderful! That’s fantastic. You’re about to start filming on Marc Cherry’s new show

What’s the most glam thing about you? My simplicity. Or maybe my glasses? Do you ever wish you could wear your own clothes? I’d have to be a major drag queen! for Lifetime. Are you heading back to LA? We’re shooting it in Atlanta. It’s my first time working there, and I love it instantly. What’s your favorite thing about the South? The food! I worked in Charleston on Army Wives and I had a beautifully crusted catfish in a husk, fried green tomatoes, and hush puppies. Oh, it was all so good!
How do you know Dennis? We met when he was starting the fur business 30 years ago, and we’ve been very close for all that time. My wife Leba and I are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary tonight. I was 22 when I got married! What’s the secret for staying together for 50 years? Be friends, have respect, don’t hit below the belt, and be able to bend and give in. If you were to write a song about Dennis, what would the song be called? “Friends Forever.” What’s he like as a friend? Very emotional, very sympathetic, devoted, and he’s always there during the ups and downs to support us.

New face You’ve most likely sipped bubbly with her on the sixth floor of Barneys New York, but how well do you really know Tomoko Ogura? Your Daily sat down with Barneys’ new senior fashion director at the genes@CO-OP café for the M.O. behind the luxury behemoth’s soft-spoken gatekeeper. BY MARIA DENARDO
tomoko’s time What does Tomoko mean? It’s Japanese for “friendship.” When you write the Japanese characters out, it’s two moons representing friends standing shoulder to shoulder. Where did you grow up? I was born in New Jersey, and then I moved to Tokyo when I was 11. I lived there until I went to college at Dartmouth in New Hampshire. I majored in economics, with a minor in German. What’s your first Barneys memory? Before I worked here, my mom and I used to go shopping at the downtown Barneys for special occasions. Once, I saved to buy a plaid mini backpack, but usually, it was always a window-shopping experience. When did you begin your career at Barneys? I was hired as a merchandising assistant in the fashion office in 2005, working for Julie Gilhart. I landed in the position not knowing what I wanted to do in my career. The assistant is exposed to all aspects of the company—the advertising, marketing, and buying teams. I realized from the get-go that I didn’t want to be a buyer, but I appreciated that we’re running a business and we need to sell things. After I was the merchandising assistant, I served as the CO-OP fashion director. Who’s your mentor? Julie was a huge mentor, and she remains a close friend. You’re turning 30 this year! Do people think you’re too young for the job? People have definitely commented that I’m young for the position, but I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded by people who believe in me, and I’ve worked hard. How many events do you attend per week? Barneys usually has about two events per week on average. As much as it may be overwhelming, it’s part of my job to understand the market. I’m happy to do it, but being in the public eye doesn’t come as naturally to me. One of my strengths and focuses has always been the product and the merchandise. What’s your personal style? A little boyish with some feminine strokes. Comfort is key. I often wear sneakers and flats. Wayne is one of my favorite brands, and I love Sacai, t-shirts from ATM, Chance, and scarves from Salvor. I also like Boy by Band of Outsiders, R13 jeans, and Sea. I’m always looking to support some of the smaller designers we’re introducing. I also like Uniqlo. I think it’s partly because I’m Japanese, and I love to support Japanese brands. What are you buying for Fall 2012? Each x Other jeans, a Hoorsenbuhs monogram plate bracelet, Cinzia Araia sneakers, a Maiyet clutch, an Elder Statesman cashmere sweater, and a Mary Katrantzou cocktail dress. What’s a typical workday for you? A lot of running around to showrooms or visiting different designers. At the moment, I’m swamped in developing Barneys’ private label inspiration for Fall 2013, which is driving me a little crazy, since we haven’t even seen Spring! Where do you find emerging designers? With her mentor References are great, and I try to read every email since people are emailing and predecessor, ...And her second, lookbooks all the time. I probably get more than 500 emails a day. Julie Gilhart... shorter-lived predecessor, What are you obsessed with besides fashion? Amanda Brooks I love a good statistic! FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M
