Dale J. Peterson

Dale J. Peterson, founder of Dale Peterson Auto Body in Springville, has been named the grand marshal of the 2023 Art City Days Grand Parade.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 10. It will travel west on 400 South, then turn north on Main Street and continue to 200 North.

Dale J. Peterson, 90, was born in Provo, Utah, to Charles and Petrea Peterson, and he had 14 brothers and sisters. A strong work ethic was instilled in him as he grew up, and it was something he carried with him throughout his life.

Dale graduated from Lincoln High School, and, a few years later, he met and married a beautiful Springville girl named Millie Rose Tamietti. They made their home in Springville from that time on. Millie worked for many years at Springville High School.

Dale had various jobs that included working at some of the Provo car dealerships. He ultimately ended up learning and doing auto body work. As a master craftsman in this area, he was given the most challenging assignments.

In 1978, after gaining more than 28 years of experience in the auto collision repair business, Dale, to the surprise of his family, decided he had had enough

of working for others and started his own business. This was the beginning of Dale Peterson Auto Body in Springville.

Dale Peterson Auto Body first opened at 309 W. 900 North and continues to operate there to this day. Dale, along with his son Tad, has continued to build the business since it first opened. At the business, Dale taught Tad the importance of doing a quality job or not doing it at all.

With that commitment to high quality (which includes keeping up to date with the latest techniques and technologies), the business is still going strong 45 years later. It is now under the management of Tad, Tad’s wife Amy, and their children Derek, Travis, Braden and Carmen, who have all learned the same lessons of hard work since they were teenagers.

Dale still enjoys being at the shop daily and visiting with customers and friends who come in.

Dale has enjoyed serving in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during his lifetime, including in the bishopric of a Brigham Young University ward and as a home teacher.

Dale and Millie enjoyed raising four children in Springville: Gary (Elizabeth),

Janet (Greg) Johnson, Dalene and Tad (Amy). Watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren learn and grow is his greatest joy. He is affectionately known as “Poppy” by his grandkids.

Dale has loved being a part of the Springville community and is grateful for the support that he has been given over the years. He is very humbled and honored to be chosen as the grand marshal for the 2023 Art City Days Grand Parade.

Tresa Anderson

Tresa Anderson, owner and director of Charisma Dance Studio in Springville, has been named the 2023 Art City Days Resident Artist.

She will be honored during the 2023 Art City Days Grand Parade on Saturday, June 10. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. that day and will travel west on 400 South, then turn north on Main Street and continue to 200 North.

Tresa Anderson has lived in Springville since 1993 and loves this community, the people, the culture and the way Springville supports the arts. The art of dance has been the center of Tresa’s life. John Hafen, one of Springville’s revered native artists, is her children’s great-great-grandfather, and this is one of the reasons why Tresa became familiar with Springville and chose to live here.

Most of her children, and even their spouses, have been talented dancers, a fact she delights in. Some of them have appeared on television shows such as “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Dancing with the Stars” and “World of Dance.” Her husband Wylie is also a wonderful support to her in “the dance business.”

Tresa has more than 40 years of dance teaching experience. She has a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young Univer-

sity in dance, secondary education and special education. She has danced her entire life, starting when she was only 2 years old.

During her early years of training, she first specialized in ballet and was a member of the Idaho Concert Ballet Company through her high school years. She later added other dance styles to her skill set, including jazz, lyrical, theater, tap, gymnastics, modern, contemporary and ballroom.

While at BYU, she was a member of the BYU Ballroom Tour Team and toured throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, competing individually and on the team and winning national and international titles. She was also a member of BYU’s International Folk Dance Team and Modern Dance Company.

Tresa taught dance starting in high school and continued teaching at BYU as a student. After college, she opened her first studio, Dance World, in Pocatello, Idaho, which she ran for 13 years. She then relocated to Utah and started Charisma Studio, which has been very successful since 1996.

She has coached gymnastics and served as a choreographer for musical theater, pageants, numerous stage

productions, television, drill teams, competition teams, competitive ballroom couples and jazz/lyrical solos.

During the last 27 years, she has been honored to teach thousands of residents of Springville and its surrounding areas.

Tresa Anderson is the mother of six children, four stepchildren and 18 grandchildren. She is very grateful that she and Charisma Studio have been warmly welcomed and integrated into this wonderful Utah community of artistic expression.

Kent & Gina Woolf

Kent and Gina Woolf have been named Springville’s 2023 Citizens of the Year by the Springville-Mapleton Chamber of Commerce.

Kent was raised in Provo, the fifth of 11 children, by Vern Woolf and Marlene Thomas. He graduated from Provo High School where he took state in swimming in 1984. After a semester of study abroad in Israel, he served a two-year mission to Spokane, Washington (Spanish speaking), for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Upon returning, Kent attended Brigham Young University and earned his degree in mechanical engineering in 1992. Kent was Provo High’s swim team coach for a year and later worked his way through school in a BYU chemical engineering lab designing and setting up lithium battery and cold fusion experiments. He also worked for two seasons as an EFY games coordinator.

Gina was born in Salt Lake City, the second of five children, and raised in

Sandy by Kenneth and Louise Cook. She graduated from Hillcrest High School and worked in retail. Kent and Gina met while they attended BYU. They married in 1990, finished school, then moved to San Diego for Kent’s employment opportunities. While there, Kent worked to develop a medical infusion pump and a dental implant system while Gina cared for their five children.

After 13 years in San Diego, Kent and Gina felt strongly it was time to return to Utah and did so in November of 2006 after Kent accepted a job working for Flowserve. Kent is now a global product resolution engineer at Flowserve here in Springville.

Kent and Gina have lived in Springville for the past 16 years. Their children are Brianna (married to Nathan St. Andre), Julie, Gavin (married to Sadie Conover Woolf), Heather and David (who is currently serving a mission in the Guatemala City Central mission). They have three granddaughters and a

grandson.

All five Woolf children graduated from Springville High School. Gina has spent 20 years volunteering in the Woolf kids’ school classrooms, coaching Jump Club teams at Hobble Creek Elementary for five years and serving in various PTA capacities in California and Utah. Gina is currently an SHS Key Club advisor.  Gina has worked for more than 14 years at the Springville Museum of Art. She is currently the event coordinator. She has conducted hundreds of tours showcasing the museum for events. Gina has also helped hundreds of couples arrange for their wedding celebrations at the museum.

Gina enjoys helping the museum staff with museum events, including the Art Ball, the Children’s Art Festival during Art City Days, exhibitions, the Sunday Concert Series, Springville Historical Society presentations, the Halloween Party, the $100 Show and the Mayor’s Reception for the World Folkfest.

Kent and Gina have been members of the Springville Kiwanis Club for 11 years. Kent served for two years as president during the pandemic and helped Kiwanis open the Springville food pantry. Through the Kiwanis club, the Woolfs have worked at and helped manage the Kiwanis Scone Booth during Art City Days. This raises funds for Sub for Santa. They have also

participated in and helped organize the Kiwanis Community Food Drive and Sub for Santa event each December.

Gina has served as a Key Club advisor for the past 10 years at SHS. Key Club is a youth service organization operated in partnership with the local Kiwanis Club. Kent and Gina love working high school students in this service capacity. With the Key Club, they have helped organize and facilitate many SHS and community service projects. A favorite activity has been transforming the indoor track at Springville High School by cleaning it and painting Red Devil school spirit murals.

They have loved working alongside hundreds of students and many community volunteers. Each year, Gina and Kent help train Key Club students in principles of effective leadership so they can carry out meaningful service projects.

Kent and Gina love attending all things SHS: games, plays, concerts, assemblies, homecoming festivities and graduations (even though their kids have all graduated). They love to see the amazing high school students in action.

They have helped with the World Folkfest and hosted dancers from 10 different countries, many of whom remain life-long friends. They served as emcees for the Art City Days Talent Festival in 2015 and 2016. Gina also had the opportunity to serve on the Rivoli Theater restoration committee. Kent and Gina are both CERT-certified. They also enjoy city council meetings.

They have served in various church callings, their favorites being in Scouting and Young Women and as Primary music leaders.

Though otherwise healthy, Kent began experiencing a life-threatening health crisis in 2016 that required a miraculous life-saving kidney transplant. Kent’s brother Troy generously donated his kidney in 2017, giving Kent new lease on life. This increased both Gina and Kent’s outlook regarding the deep value of faith and our relationships with people. They love the Springville community spirit and the people who make Springville the greatest place to live.

Copies Plus Printing

Copies Plus Printing Inc. has been named the 2023 Business of the Year by the Springville-Mapleton Chamber of Commerce.

Mike and Sharon Ewing opened Copies Plus Printing in Springville in June of 1984. Most of their friends told them Springville wasn’t the best place to start a business, but they have passed the test of time and proven them wrong. Their first location was at 164 S. Main, which is the current location of Funfinity.

After a short time, they outgrew this location and moved to 188 S. Main, which is currently the home of Ginger’s Garden Cafe_. After a few years, it became necessary to build a new, larger facility at 717 N. Main.

Since that time, they have continued to expand, adding a production building at that same address.

In the 39 years since they opened, the business has grown from a one-man show with only one small copier to a fully-staffed printing facility serving not only Springville but also all of Utah County. They also serve many customers in Salt Lake County and even have customers outside of the state of Utah.

All the while, Copies Plus Printing has kept up with the most current technology available. In 2013, the business was selected as the Best Printer of Utah Valley in the Daily Herald’s Best of Utah Valley Readers Choice Awards. Since then, they have received that honor nine additional times, making it 10 years in a row.

All four of Mike and Sharon’s children — Kimberly, Daniel, Michael and James — have worked at Copies Plus Printing. Many of their grandkids have also worked in this family business. Other employees have joined the staff over the years, each one assisting in the company’s goals of caring for customers and providing outstanding service.

These competent staff members, both current and past, have helped

make Copies Plus Printing what it is today. Their staff has always been considered part of “the Copies Plus Printing family.”

SPRING SALON ART EXHIBIT

The 99th annual Spring Salon, an art exhibit showcasing the diversity and quality of contemporary Utah art, is now open at the Springville Museum of Art.

The Spring Salon is one of the longest-running art shows in the state of Utah. It is a juried exhibition featuring pieces by Utah artists from many backgrounds. The pieces are created using a wide variety of mediums.

The salon will remain on exhibit through July 8 at the museum, located at 126 E. 400 South in Springville.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. The museum is closed Sundays, Mondays and holidays (except for special events).

The Spring Salon was first held in 1922. It was begun by students and teachers at Springville High School who wanted to exhibit and promote original artwork. The salon has been held annually since that time except during World War II when fuel and other goods were rationed nationwide.

The salon is open to all Utah artists working in any media. Each artist may submit up to two works of art created within the last three years. Works over three years old are not eligible.Each year, hundreds of art works are submitted for consideration, with around 250 works accepted for display as part of the Salon.

The entrants to the exhibit come from many backgrounds. There are many professional artists who enter their art for consideration, but many others are amateurs. There is a wide variety of art mediums including oil, acrylic and watercolor painting, traditional sculpture, mixed media and assemblage sculpture, photography and digital media.

One past tradition of the Spring Salon was the Penny Vote. Early in the history of the show, contestants for Art Queen from the high school received votes through pennies that were cast into a box. The contestant with the most pennies was selected as the Art Queen and the money went toward new art purchases for the museum.

The Springville Playhouse will present the popular musical “The Scarlet Pimpernel” as part of the Art City Days celebration this year.

The musical will be presented beginning at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday from June 9 through June 24. The performances will be held in the auditorium at Springville High School, 1205 E. 900 South.

Tickets are $15 for general admission (students and senior citizens are $12). Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at springvilleplayhouse.com.

The production is being directed by Robinne Booth.

With music by Fran Wildhorn and lyrics and book by Nan Knighton, “The Scarlet Pimpernel” is based on the 1905

novel by Baroness Orczy. Set against the backdrop of the French Revolusion, the musical tells the story of the mysterious Scarlet Pimpernel, a Englishman who bravely rescues French citizens from the guillotine.

Meanwhile, Marguerite St. Just has recently married English aristocrat Percy Blakeney, but their relationship turns

sour as both keep secrets from the other. Who is the real Pimpernel? And will the secrets end up destroying Marguerite, Percy and their friends?

“The Scarlet Pimpernel” is full of romance, sword-fighting and swashbuckling adventure. Come enjoy this musical and its talented cast on the big stage at Springville High School.

The annual Art City Days 5K Family Fun Run is now the Color Run. Live your life in color! Be the canvas! Be vibrant!

The Color Run is a 5K race that celebrates health, art, community, and, of course, happiness. Throughout the run, powdered paint will thrown at the participants, and a color celebration will be held at the finish line. (Participants will have the option to run the race without getting painted.)

The event is open to runners, walkers or strollers. It will be held on Saturday, June 3, and begin at 7 a.m. It will begin and end at the Spring Acres Arts Park, 700 S. 1300 East (just northeast of Springville High School), Springville.

Participants need to register for the Color Run 5K at springville.org by May 26 to receive a race packet, glasses and a T-shirt.

Registration is $20 for an individual and $18 for youth ages 5 to 10. Online

Late registration (from May 28 through June 3) is $25 and race shirts are not guaranteed.

The community is invited to celebrate the cultures of Latin America during the ¡CelebrARTE! event to be held Saturday, June 3, from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Spring Acres Arts Park, 700 S. 1300 East (just northeast of Springville High School), Springville. Admission is free.

Now in its third year as part of Art City Days, ¡CelebrARTE! celebrates the multi-culturalism and diversity in the Springville community. The event high-

lights Latino culture, dance, music and, of course, food! Start dancing early with free Zumba at 4 p.m.

Come play games, eat and watch music groups perform songs and dances from Latin American countries. Bring blankets or lawn chairs for comfortable seating on the grass.

¡CelebrARTE! is being held in conjunction with Art City Days and is being presented by Springville United.

It’s time to Rodeo!

The annual Art City Days Hometown Rodeo will return to the Springville Arena on Saturday, June 3. Mutton Bustin’ will kick off the rodeo at 6:30 p.m., and the main dirt-stomping, heart-pounding events — Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Barrel Racing and Team Roping — will begin at 7 p.m.

Competitors of all ages are expected from all corners of Utah. Barrels and Team Roping will be offered in slack starting at 9 a.m.

Mutton Bustin’ is offered for children 8 years old and younger and a cash scramble will be offered for youth ages 9 to 13.

The Rodeo Committee is pleased to welcome back Bert Davis, The Coppertown Clown and his muttley crew, with his wacky sense of humor and wonderfully trained group of rescue dogs to this year’s rodeo as its Specialty Act. His quick wit, award-winning comedy routines and ability to interact with a crowd offer up the promise of tear-rolling laughter for his Springville audience.

Also returning to the arena this year are the hard-bucking bulls and horses of local stock contractor Rocking B Rodeos.

Some tickets will be sold at the arena the day of the rodeo at $10 per adult and $5 per child (ages 4 through 12, children 3 and under are free). Cash is preferred. Tickets will be sold until capacity is

reached, so get yours early!

No outside food or drink will be allowed. Rodeo concessions will be offered by the Springville Rotary Club.

How well do you know Springville? Those who think they’re familiar with every aspect of this community have a chance to win prizes through the Art City Days Eye Spy Photo Contest.

Photos will be posted online at www. springville.org/art-city-days/eye-spy on Monday, June 5, at 9 a.m. of 20 different locations or objects in Springville. The catch is that only a very small portion of the location, object or sign will be shown. It’s then your job to figure out where each picture was taken and take a bigger picture of the location or object.

Springville residents will be challenged to become super sleuths and use clues to find a special hidden item as part of the Art City Days Medallion Treasure Hunt.

Each day from Monday, June 5, through Thursday, June 8, at 9 a.m., a single clue will be revealed at www. springville.org/art-city-days/medallion that will lead searchers to a special Springville medallion hidden somewhere in the community.

Each clue will be somewhat cryptic, so it will require deductive thinking to put each part together and find the medallion.

In past years, the medallion has been found out in the open, but it also has been found inside a public building. There will be a message on the medal-

lion giving specific instructions to the person or group that finds it, which could result in them winning valuable prizes including a $50 Amazon gift card and a gift basket full of Springville Swag.

After the four days of clues, a final clue may be released on Friday, June 10, at 9

a.m. if the medallion hasn’t been found by then.

Only one person will know where the medallion is hidden, so peppering city employees with questions will do you no good. Be very specific in your search as you get closer to finding the medallion, but, most of all, have fun!

“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” • Monday, June 5

All are invited to enjoy the animated feature “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” (2022) as it is screened outside in the Spring Acres Arts Park during the 2023 Art City Days celebration.

The movie will be shown on Monday, June 5, beginning at dusk (around 9 p.m.) at the park, located at 700 S. 1300 East, Springville (just northeast of Springville High School). Admission is free.

SENIOR ART EXHIBIT

Get out your paints and pottery wheels, seniors! This is the time in your life you can take up that art you never had time for while raising your family.

The Brown Art Gallery will host an art show featuring works by seniors (ages 55 plus) during this year’s Art City Days celebration. The show will be open to the public daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week of Art City Days, June 5 through 10, at the Brown Art Gallery, 274 S. Main, Springville.

Seniors interested in participating can submit one or two of their paintings or pottery pieces into the show. The entries

must be entered and registered on Friday, June 2, or Saturday, June 3, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the gallery.

Paintings (no larger than 36 x 48 and no heavier than 25 pounds) must have a proper wire on the back for hanging. All art should conform to community standards.

Every entry will be on display. The show will be judged and awards given. Paintings may be priced for sale with all proceeds going to the artist.

SPIKEBALL TOURNAMENT

Tuesday, June 6

For the first time, Springville’s Art City Days celebration will include a Spikeball Tournament this year. on Tuesday, June 6. The tournament will be played on Tuesday, June 6, at Springville Community Park, 711 N. 950 West.

Check-in and warmups will be held from 5 to 5:15 p.m., followed by announcements and round robin from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. The elimination bracket will begin at 6:30; all teams are guaranteed two elimination bracket matches.

The tournament will be completed by 8:30 p.m. All teams can expect to play until 8:30 p.m.

The registration fee is $30 per team before May 26 and $40 per team after May 27. Registration will close June 5

Spikeball is a sport played by two teams of two players each. Opposing teams line up across from each other with a Spikeball net in the center. The object of the game is to hit the ball into the net so that the opposing team cannot return it. A team is allowed up to three touches to return the ball.

This year’s Art City Days celebration will include the first-ever Art City Days Pickleball Tournament. This tournament will be held on Monday and Tuesday, June 5 and 6, at the Clyde Recreation Center outdoor pickleball courts, 717 S. 1200 West, Springville.

This tournament is a non-sanctioned event that will be played in a round robin format. The score will go to 11, with

the win by 2. The top four will move on to bracket play.

Divisions will be available for Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The registration fee is $40 per team (only one partner per team needs to register).

PIONEER MUSEUM OPEN HOUSE

June 7-10

The Daughters of Utah Pioneers’ Springville-Mapleton Pioneer Museum will be open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, June 7, 8, 9 and 10. The museum is located at 175 S. Main in Springville. The pioneer museum houses historical items from the Springville and Mapleton area stretching back into the 1800s. Visitors to the museum can view wall photos, photo albums and newspaper clippings depicting many Springville and Mapleton pioneers. Display cases contain items such as farming and carpentry tools, weapons, personal items, clothing, dishes and children’s dolls.

Visitors can also do research about an ancestor or other individual using journals, histories and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings.

The museum is run by volunteers. It is maintained by the Springville-Mapleton Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Company. The Springville-Mapleton Pioneer Museum is one of 74 pioneer museums run by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in Utah.

The museum is open to the public on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. from March through November. Admission is free.

The annual Art City Days Carnival will be operating in the center of the city during this year’s celebration. The carnival will open on Wednesday, June 7, and continue operating through Saturday, June 10, in the open area surrounding the Springville Civic Center, 110 S. Main.

The carnival, presented by Brown’s Amusements, will be full of rides for thrill seekers and young children alike as well as carnival food and games.

ADVANCE DISCOUNT TICKETS

As in past years, carnival voucher tickets will be available for pre-purchase at a discount at the finance windows in the Springville Civic Center (110 S. Main) during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The voucher tickets will be sold from May 26 through June 5 while supply lasts.

A $25 pre-purchased voucher ticket may be exchanged at the carnival for a one-day unlimited ride wristband (regularly priced $35).

Due to Brown’s Amusements Inc. insurance requirements, ride restrictions and height requirements will be strictly enforced. The Civic Center Park in downtown Springville will be the center of activity during this year’s Art City Days celebration. In addition to the annual carnival, the park will host a wide variety of food vendors as well as the Art City Days Craft Boutique. The park is located at 110 S. Main.

Dozens of artists and vendors come together to present the Art City Days Craft Boutique. A large variety of jewelry, clothing, handmade crafts, arts, candles and many more amazing items will be available for purchase.

An amazing amount of delicious food will also be offered, including the famous Kiwanis Scone Booth. Other options will include barbecue, shave ice, pizza, ice cream, hamburgers, hot dogs, Navajo

tacos and more.

The food and craft vendor booths will be open at the following times:

The Fun-A-Rama is designed specifically for kids. Children ages 3 to 12 are invited to participate in this event on Thursday, June 8, at the Spring Acres Arts Park, 700 S. 1300 East (just northeast of Springville High School) as part of the Art City Days celebration.

The Fun-A-Rama will begin at 10 a.m. that day and continue until 2 p.m. Wristbands costing $5 will allow each child access to all the fun activities in the park. There will be bounce houses, rides and entertainment on the main stage.

While the activities will be geared toward children 3 to 12 years old, children younger than 3 are also welcome and should be able to participate in most activities. Admission for children ages 2 and younger is free.

Concessions will be available at the Fun-A-Rama for an additional fee.

3-on-3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Thursday, June 8

The annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held on Thursday, June 8, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Open to ages 16 and up, this one-night tournament will end when the champions are crowned!

A big change this year is the location of the tournament. It will be played at Springville Junior High School, 189 S. 1470 East, NOT at Springville High

School as in recent years. Registration is $50 for each four-person team and includes a T-shirt for each player. Pre-registration is preferred; to register, go to springville.org/art-city-days/3on-3-basketball/. Users must create a family account and log in to register.

Cash and check payments for registration will also be accepted at the

Springville Recreation Office, 443 S. 200 East, during regular business hours. A maximum of 24 teams will be allowed to participate; same-day registration will begin at 5:30 in the SJHS Main Gym if space is still available.

3-on-3 basketball is a half-court game played by two teams with a maximum of four people per roster. All games are self-officiated.

The traditional Battle of the Bands event will return to Art City Days this year on Thursday, June 8. The show will begin at 7 p.m. on the UAMPS Stage at the Springville Civic Center Park, 110 S. Main (near the city splash pad). Admission is free.

The public is invited to view beautiful quilts and other handcrafted items made by local crafters as part of the annual Art City Days Quilt Show.

This year’s Quilt Show will be held on Friday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, June 10, beginning after the parade and continuing until 4 p.m.

The quilt show will be presented in the Cherry Creek Elementary School North Gym, 485 S. 200 East (directly behind the Springville Museum of Art), Springville. Admission is free.

PARADE

Friday, June 9

Children of elementary school age and younger will have the chance to decorate their bikes, tricycles, scooters, Big Wheels and wagons and celebrate Art City Days at the Children’s Parade on Friday, June 9.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. sharp in front of the old Grant School, 105 S. 400 East, Springville. Participants will line up in front of the school, then parade around the block. Participation is free of charge.

Children are encouraged to dress up for the parade and decorate their modes of transportation. No motorized vehicles will be allowed in the parade. No pre-registration is required; children may simply show up to participate.

For the safety of all the children participating, it is asked that participants wear proper safety gear. TLC will provide popcicles to all participants at the end of the parade.

After the parade, children are invited to proceed to the Springville Museum of Art and participate in the Children’s Art Festival.

CHILDREN’S ART FESTIVAL

A wide variety of art-related activities will be available free of charge for local children during the 2023 Children’s Art Festival at the Springville Museum of Art on Friday, June 9.

The festival will be held on the grounds of the museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free; the museum is located at 126 East 400 South in Springville.

Each year, the museum hosts this day of creation, play and learning for children and families to experience. More than 15 different art-making activities will be available to the children this year along with temporary tattoos and storytelling. On Friday, June 9, from dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.) to 9:45 p.m., the Balloon Glow event will allow spectators to see the fiery glow of colorful hot-air balloons as they lift off that evening. The balloons will be tethered to the ground, but there will be a lot of excitement as you see and feel the hot air being blasted into them by the balloons’ burners.

The balloon glow event will be held on the field between the Clyde Recreation Center and Meadow Brook Elementary

School (717 S. 1200 West) in Springville. Admission is free.

In conjunction with the Balloon Glow event, a free family street dance will be held that evening in the parking lot of the Clyde Recreation Center from 9 to 10:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, inside the rec center from 8 p.m. until the center closes at 10 p.m. that evening, the All Aglow Festival will be held with glow sticks and lighted pools.

Local service & great rates

Voted one of the best parades in Utah County, the annual Art City Days Grand Parade will be held on Saturday, June 10, beginning at 10 a.m. More than 100 entries including floats, marching bands, antique vehicles, equestrian groups and more will make their way through Springville that morning as crowds of people cheer them on.

The parade will begin at Buckley Avenue and 400 South and then travel west down 400 South to Main Street. The parade will then turn north and make it way down Main Street to 200 North where the parade will end.

Two announcers — one stationed in front of the Springville Museum of Art and the other sitting in front of City Hall — will introduce and describe the parade entries as they make their way down the street.

Blankets and/or chairs can be set up along the parade route 24 hours in advance with the property owner’s permission. Do not block driveways or sidewalks. Be aware that automatic sprinklers may damage items set out along the parade route.

If you have a group or organization that would like to be in the Art City Days Grand Parade, please register by filling out a 2023 Grand Parade Entry Form at springville.org/art-city-days/. You must have an entry in the parade in order to hand out advertisements and/or flyers. All other Grand Parade vendors must apply and have an official badge to sell any wares along the parade route.

The 2023 Grand Parade entry deadline is May 26 at 4 p.m. Entrants will be notified in advance via email with a parade number and the spot to line up.

Art City Auto Body will present the 2023 Car Show on Saturday, June 10.

Lots of cool cars and classic hot rods will be on display for close-up viewing. The show will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. at Art City Auto Body, 587 S. Main, Springville. Admission is free.

Those who would like to display their car or motorcycle in the show are invited to call 801-489-3078 for more information or they can stop by Art City Auto Body during business hours and register their vehicle.

Entries will also be accepted on the day of the show. Those interested can simply bring their entry to Art City Auto Body before 9 a.m. on the morning of June 10 before the show begins.

DUCT TAPE REGATTA

Saturday, June 10

Gather a team of friends, family or neighbors and head up to Wayne Bartholomew Family Park following the Grand Parade on Saturday, June 10, to make a splash in the Art City Days Duct Tape Regatta.

This event will have teams building boats out of cardboard and duct tape and attempting to paddle around the pond at the park.

Anyone can participate in this event, which will be begin at 1:30 at the park, located at 1090 S. 2900 East in Springville.

Each team entering the regatta can have from two to 10 members. The teams will each receive a stack of cardboard and a roll of duct tape and then be given 30 minutes to build the most sea-worthy boat and paddle they can using those materials.

One member of the team will then race the boat around a buoy in the middle of the pond. The first team to paddle around the buoy and back to shore with-

out sinking will win.

Those wishing to participate should go to www.springville.org/art-city-days/ regatta/and download the 2023 Release Form as well as the Team Information Form. All completed forms must be emailed to artcitydays@springville.org or submitted in person at the Springville Recreation Office, 443 S. 200 East, by 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9.

There will be enough materials available that day to accommodate a maximum of 35 teams.

For late registration, bring all information directly to the regatta to be put on a list in case additional spots are available. Team captains will be responsible to have their teams gathered and ready at competition time and must make sure each team member has completed the Release Form. Those without valid release forms will not be allowed to participate.
