Pony Express Days 2011

Clint Black crooning in Eagle Mountain Country music superstar Clint Black will headline the annual Pony Express Days Concert and Fireworks at SilverLake Amphitheater in Eagle Mountain City on Saturday, June 4, 2011. Tickets are on sale now online at www.eaglemountaincity.com. Ticket prices are $15 pre-sale or $20 at the door. Children ages 2 and under are free. Tickets are also available for purchase in person at Eagle Mountain City Hall, 1650 E. Stagecoach Run. Clint Black has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide since his 1989 debut “Killin’ Time” spawned an unprecedented five No. 1 hits and went triple platinum. Since then, Black has had nearly two dozen No. 1 hit singles, including “Like the Rain” and “A Better Man,” and almost as many Top 5 and Top 10 hits — all of them his original compositions. Beyond his musical career, Black has appeared as an actor in several films, including “Maverick” with Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster, and the upcoming “Flicka 2.” He recently appeared on Donald Trump’s hit reality TV series “Celebrity Apprentice.” He is also involved with various charity foundations, including serving as honorary chairman of the International Rett Syndrome Foundation’s (IRSF) “Research to Reality: Funding Progress” campaign, which helps to accelerate treatments and research to find a cure for the developmental disorder. The concert is the culminating event of Pony Express Days, Eagle Mountain City’s annual 10-day celebration. The theme for the 2011 celebration is “I Found Myself in Eagle Mountain Serving Others,” with proceeds from many of the events going toward forming a city activities program for children with disabilities. The opening act is local favorite Mark Owens.

2nd annual Pony Express rodeo

Award-winning stock contractor at Pony Express Rodeo

Eagle Mountain City will hold the second annual Pony Express Days PRCA Rodeo May 27, 28, and 30. The Pony Express Days PRCA Rodeo is the largest PRCA rodeo held in the country over Memorial Day weekend and boasts the biggest payout at $4,000 per event and each winner receives a revolver. Some of the top National Finals Rodeo competitors will be participating, including Utah natives Cody Wright, the current World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider; and Eagle Mountain’s own Rusty Allen, multiple NFR finalist in Saddle Bronc Riding. Donations on each night of the rodeo will go to some great causes. Friday is Special Needs Night, with donations going to the Exceptional Kids Club city activities program. Saturday is Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night, with donations going to Save the Cure Foundation to fight pediatric cancer. Monday is Patriot Night honoring our military, with donations going to A Soldier’s Promise, a support group for soldiers and their families.

Hank and Lori Franzen with a partner from Buffalo, Wyo., started the Wyoming based Powder River Rodeo Company in February 1986. Their interests were to be sole owners and they bought the partner out a year later. When they first started the company they bought 40 horses and 20 bulls from an amateur stock contractor in Kalispell, Mont. They produced 11 amateur rodeos the first year as stock contractors. Hank was a PRCA member contestant for the last 10 years; when he and his wife became sole owners of Powder River Rodeo they immediately applied for their PRCA Stock Contractors Card, which they received in March 1987. The fall of 1988 they were given their first opportunity to nominate livestock to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. They had three animals selected. In the spring of 1989 they purchased a magnificent bucking horse named Khadafy Skoal. From Hank’s experience in the world of rodeo he
