ike a good neighbor...we all know the rest. And while it may be just a jingle to some, for Chris Morrison, it represents why he has loved working in and serving the Farmington community since 2012. Years prior during a college internship, Chris saw the benefit of helping people in person, which is a benefit online-only companies can’t match. Coupled with State Farm’s 24-hour contact center, he knows his clients can always receive the help they need, when they need it. In addition to providing traditional home and auto policies, Chris enjoys educating clients about life insurance, and the importance of planning for the future and protecting loved ones. He also takes pride in being a service professional for local businesses, allowing them to focus their efforts on developing and maintaining success. And while he’d prefer to meet on the golf course, when the unexpected happens, he values being there for his clients. For a wide range of policies with a personal touch, give Chris a call today. ope – that’s what Dr. Karen Melton has been delivering to the Parkland since 2013. In more practical terms, she and her colleagues at Hearing Care Partners specialize in hearing testing and treatment, including for those with tinnitus, who often don’t realize that it’s a treatable condition. And through technological advancements, digital hearing-aids can now be assisted by artificial intelligence, allowing for individual frequency customization, environmental noise suppression, and Bluetooth connectivity for navigation, alerts, phone calls, and more. Dr. Melton encourages everyone to get a hearing test at age 50. Given that hearing loss is often gradual, loved ones should nudge each other to seek assistance. For the hesitant, expect to be treated like family. Dr. Melton takes great pride in providing detailed, personalized service, including referrals for clients who need additional treatment. Hearing Care Partners also provides custom hearing protection for businesses and for individuals working in noisy environments. So whether for yourself or a loved one, contact Hearing Care Partners today at 573-756-0500, or via email at welisten@ hearingcarepartners.com. Estate planning is not reserved for the ultra-rich, it can be of great benefit to most everyone. If you own anything or have young children, you should consider an estate plan. Doing so not only protects your family and your assets but it also allows you to avoid the costs and headaches of probate.” Another area of the law Kimber focuses on is small businesses. ince 1906, five generations of Boyers have provided unparalleled funeral services to Parkland families, with locations now including Desloge, Bonne Terre, Leadwood, Park Hills, and Farmington. Each location is easily accessible, and includes comfortable rooms spacious enough to accommodate large gatherings. C.Z. Boyer & Son also operates its own crematorium in Farmington, which means loved ones remain in their care throughout the entire process. They also own Hillview Memorial Gardens, an endowed-care cemetery with a full-time caretaker, and funds specifically designated for continued maintenance. For co-owner Brian Boyer, knowing nearly every family he works with means sharing their pain. And being ready to serve at a moment’s notice is a heavy responsibility. But his dedicated staff, with nearly 200 years of combined experience, know that it’s about putting the families they serve first. And it’s through helping celebrate and memorialize loved ones, and helping families through the grieving process that give Brian his sense of purpose. To learn more about the services offered by C.Z. Healthcare

“F

ast” isn’t usually the first word that comes to mind regarding health care, especially when it comes to the emergency room. It’s also typical to assume that access to the most advanced medical technology requires driving to a big city. Fortunately, Madison Medical Center has changed all of that with the recent installation of their new, state-of-the-art CT and ultrasound equipment. Madison Medical Center is already known for significantly lower wait times for ER services, and these new scanning devices will only serve to enhance the speed at which technologists can assist patients. But perhaps more importantly, these new scanners are capable of producing incredibly detailed images, which allow doctors to provide better diagnoses for patients. Even the operation of the equipment is designed to increase patient comfort, as technologists control the devices from a tablet, allowing them to be near patients to assist with physical positioning or even help reduce anxiety. In addition, these devices include exclusive technology that automatically optimizes the radiation level specific to individual patients. Handmade Goods

F

rom the time she was eight, Debra Hendron began learning the art of soap making from her grandmother; in fact, soaps crafted from the same traditional recipes are still one of the most popular items at the Arcadia Valley Soap Company. Area visitors are particularly drawn to the Destination Soaps, which represent local attractions such as Elephant Rocks and Old Plank Road. No doubt the custom, hand-stamped bags accompanying this collection help make them irresistible souvenirs. For the adventurous, keep an eye out for their confetti soaps, which are unique concoctions made from the slivers and shavings of their hand-beveled bars. Debra has been handcrafting artisan soap in Missouri for 20 years, and in Arcadia Valley specifically since 2012. And while online sales remain popular, those fortunate enough to visit their Ironton location can see the care taken to produce the handmade soaps, lotions, balms, and fizzies displayed invitingly around the store. And with their seasonal items now available, it’s the perfect time to visit for Christmas lovers or those looking for the perfect holiday gift. Hospice Care

E

nd-of-life care is about living your best life with the time you have left. Choosing hospice sooner means more comfort and support during life’s toughest time. Serenity HospiceCare’s comprehensive team of medical, spiritual, and emotional support staff provides all the necessary care for their patients to remain at home in the presence of their family and friends. Their innovative approach truly illustrates their team’s commitment to providing peace of mind when it matters most. Serenity has added music therapy to the services they provide. Their music therapist will learn the patient’s favorite songs and sing to the patient while playing an instrument. Hearing familiar songs can help relieve some of the patient’s anxiety and create a comforting environment in which to socialize and reminisce. Serenity HospiceCare also offers other innovative programs such as Supportive Care, a free service that provides support and resources for patients and families facing chronic illness or undergoing treatment for a terminal illness. Also, since children grieve differently and require a specific type of support, they offer a grief counseling program called Carter’s Clubhouse. This program helps children interact with other grieving children through art, music, story-telling, and play. These programs demonstrate how Serenity provides comfort in a variety of ways. Tire Service and Repair

N

o one likes waiting, especially when it comes to car repairs. Fortunately, Plaza Tire Service has been getting Parkland drivers back on the road for more than 40 years. Because this family-owned company is headquartered in Cape Girardeau, the Farmington, Park Hills, and Desloge locations are able to keep a huge number of tires in stock, with a variety of options from top manufacturers for just about any vehicle. And decades of combined service experience among their technicians means fast, friendly, and reliable service every time, which continues to earn them loyal customers. ften imitated, never duplicated. While not the official motto of the Old Village Mercantile, it certainly encapsulates the magical atmosphere only an authentic, 1909 general store can conjure – and one that is on the national historic registry, at that. For over 20 years, Nina Gilliam and her staff have been in the business of creating smiles. In that time, kids who posed for photos in front of the illuminated Christmas tree have since brought their own children to be photographed in the very same spot. And after Thanksgiving this year, Santa will be stopping by from 11-3 every Saturday for pictures! Although many associate the Old Village Mercantile with its candy, for 18 years, Nina has run an award-winning coffee bar. Five years ago she added homemade, premium artisan ice cream, which has also become incredibly popular. In fact, each month a new flavor is unveiled, with cinnamon and hot chocolate both slated for December, and strawberry-jalapeno set to heat up January. No matter the occasion, visitors of all ages are guaranteed to find something new with every visit. To plan your visit, go online at oldvillagemercantile.com, or give them a call at 573-779-3907. Tobacco Alternatives

N

ine years ago, on Thanksgiving Day, Stan Janis quit smoking. On a whim, he and a few family members decided to try vaping, and after a single puff, he knew he was through with cigarettes. It’s important to understand that vaping is a nicotine-delivery system, so those who do not use tobacco products should not begin vaping. It’s also not a guaranteed solution for those trying to quit smoking or dipping. It’s simply what worked for Stan, which is why he has made it the mission of The Shed Vapes to help those trying to reduce or eliminate their nicotine consumption. Stan is open for business 365 days a year, and purposefully maintains hours friendly to a variety of work schedules. He also provides training and product advice for those new to vaping. However, it’s the massive selection and incredibly low prices that make The Shed Vapes so popular. And at the end of every month, Stan donates 100 percent of his profits to various charities, especially those connected to police, fire, and military. To learn more about vaping or the products available at The Shed Vapes, text Stan at 314-471-5453. Pictured from left to right: Stan Janis and Jordan Wood

tarting or growing a business can be overwhelming, but the Farmington Regional Chamber is here to help. For over 75 years, members have benefited from a wide variety of resources, including frequent networking opportunities and professional development workshops. As an example, during the height of the pandemic, members had access to webinars explaining how state and federal programs might benefit their business.

And when it comes to marketing, partnering with the Farmington Regional Chamber means being promoted on their social media channels and through their extensive email list with more than 800 business and community leaders. Businesses are also listed for free on the Chamber’s website and the Eat, Shop, Play app, which has nearly 3,000 downloads in its first year of existence. And what better way to celebrate the official launch of your business than with a traditional ribbon cutting! The Farmington Regional Chamber is all about building relationships and helping businesses succeed. To learn more, visit FarmingtonRegionalChamber.com, or call 573-756-3615.
