RECREATIONAL PARADISE WITH SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE: Just imagine owning a rustic home with about 3,000 sq. ft. of living space overlooking an established 9+ acre stocked lake and pavilion. There’s a 30’x48’ insulated workshop with a 24’x48’ lean-to for equipment and big boy toys along with a 24’x48’ lean-to offering two horse stalls and large tack room, for the equestrian of the family. If that’s not enough, take a ride down to the camp ground along the spring feed Mill Creek and do some swimming, small mouth bass fishing or check out the large cave if you’re feeling really adventurous. You can also take advantage of some really good deer and turkey hunting this fall. This is truly a rare find to have a property that offers so much diversity.

If you’re an avid reader, you might have more books than you know what to do with. Here are a few ways you can organize your bookshelves.
GettinG started Growing an indoor herb garden will require nutrient-rich soil, pots with good drainage and a sunny window. Generally, herbs need a minimum of six hours of sunlight a day to thrive. If you don’t have a space that can provide this amount of natural light every day, consider getting an LED grow light instead. ChoosinG your herbs You can grow your herbs from seed or purchase seedlings from a garden centre or nursery. If you buy young plants, choose ones with shiny leaves and strong stems. Some herbs that do well on a windowsill include: • Oregano • Basil • Thyme • Rosemary • Mint • Parsley • Chives
takinG Care of your herbs Herbs should be watered regularly but not overwatered. You’ll know it’s time to water them when the top layer of soil is just starting to dry out, but the deeper layers are still damp. Plants in smaller pots need to be watered more often. Additionally, regularly feed your herbs nitrogen-rich fertilizer to encourage strong leaf growth. To remove salt residue caused by fertilizing, flush the plants once a month by holding their pots over the sink and running water over them until it flows from the bottom of the pot. To keep your herbs in great shape, harvest the leaves regularly. To do this, simply pinch off the topmost ones as you need them. Just be sure not to pick the big lowermost leaves that provide plants with a sturdy base. Regular harvesting will ensure your plants thrive.
• By genre. Another common way to organize books is by category. Some genres you’re probably familiar with are fiction, biography, history, poetry and travel. But don’t be shy to use more atypical classifications such as urban fantasy, true crime or French cooking. • By cover. If you want bookshelves that are visually striking, try grouping all your books by colour. Similarly, you can wrap all your books in one type of paper, or place the
• Paint the insides of your bookshelves an interesting colour or cover them with wallpaper. Combining this with books organized by their covers would really make a statement. • Stack a few books on their side. This adds visual interest and the stacks can function as bookends for the other volumes. There’s no one right way to organize your bookshelves, as long as you like the effect. Just don’t forget to leave some space for new volumes.

Fresh herbs can make a mediocre meal mouth-watering. To ensure you have them on hand at all times, why not grow them right in your kitchen? Here’s what you should know about growing herbs indoors.
• Place items like photographs, houseplants and knick-knacks around your books to show off your personal style.

• Alphabetically. In bookstores and libraries, books are organized alphabetically by author. You can use this system at home or instead alphabetize your volumes by title. Choose whichever method makes it easiest for you to find the book you’re looking for.

A fence does more than provide security and privacy. It also shows off your personal style and can add the perfect finishing touch to the overall look of your home and garden. Here are the top fencing trends of 2019 that you should know about.
3. Including plants Embrace nature by planting wild-looking perennials that will grow along your fence every year. Or, build small shelves into the fence where you can place potted flowers or herbs. 4. Alternative materials Wood was once the go-to material for fences. Nowadays, low maintenance vinyl or composite can be just as attractive and more affordable to boot. Other fashionable options include stone, brick and metal.
studio or storage: tips for building a shed in your backyard Need a place to store your gardening supplies? Or perhaps you’d like to create a studio or office that’s separate from the rest of your home? In either case, building a shed in your backyard could be the solution. Here’s what you should do before you begin.
yourself room to move. Will you need to store large items like a riding lawn mower or snowblower? Then choose a design with double doors. Also, be sure to include a strong floor and to install shelves and racks to help keep the space tidy.
EvAluAtE yOur NEEDs If you intend to use your shed for storage, start by figuring out how big it should be. Place all the items you want to store in it on the ground and then measure the amount of space they take up. Be sure to add a few extra feet to give
If you’re planning to use your shed as a home office, studio or playhouse, there are other considerations to take into account. you’ll probably want windows to let in natural light and you’ll need insulation to seal the space off from the elements. An electrician will be required to safely connect your shed to a power supply. DECIDE WHErE yOu’ll Put It How you intend to use your shed should dictate where you place it. If you’ll use it to store gardening supplies, place it at the back of your yard close to your garden. But if you intend to use it every day, make sure the entrance is easy to access in all seasons. In all cases, make sure you position your shed on flat ground and in an area that won’t flood.
No matter what type of fence you choose, make sure to talk to your neighbor before you begin building it. Not only is this a matter of courtesy, but they may also be willing to share some of the costs.
HIrE A CONtrACtOr It may be tempting to save money on your new fence by installing it yourself. However, unless you’re an experienced handyman and already own the necessary tools, this is a job best left to the pros. A fencing contractor has everything needed to quickly and efficiently build your fence. They’re also better able to deal with challenges that may arise during the installation. For instance, rocky or sandy soil may make it hard for fence posts to stay upright, or there may be buried power lines right where your fence needs to go.

2. Dark colors Darker colors are becoming increasingly popular for fences. Consider making yours charcoal grey, midnight blue, chocolate brown or jet black.
1. A modern esthetic Give your yard a contemporary look by installing a fence that uses horizontal boards instead of vertical ones. Keep the design sleek and simple and avoid incorporating ornate embellishments.

Unlike mass-produced options you find at many big-box retailers, pieces crafted by hand are built with high-quality wood and materials. They are a timeless option that can last for generations. Things to consider before building a firepit in your backyard A firepit can make your backyard a welcoming place for people to gather and allows you to take advantage of your outdoor living space well into the evening. Here are some things to consider if you’re thinking about installing one on your property.
Most people think of wood when it comes to firepits, but there are other options available. You can choose to have it run on propane, natural gas or ethanol fuel.
Where you’ll put it Firepits should be kept at a minimum of ten feet away from anything flammable. Rethink your plans if your yard doesn’t allow you to provide this kind of clearance.
What style you Want Firepits come in many different styles. You can select a traditional ring of stones, a rustic brick fireplace or a modern piece that doubles as a coffee table.

Before you purchase or build a firepit, be sure
to check your municipal bylaws. Some cities have strict rules concerning backyard fires, and you don’t want to spend time and money building a firepit only to find out you’re not allowed to use it.
Backyard fire-safety tips •Never build a fire outside of your firepit’s enclosure •Clear the area of flammable materials before lighting a fire •Keep a fire extinguisher nearby •Don’t put garbage or garden waste into the fire •Never leave a fire unattended •Make sure the fire is completely extinguished before going inside •In the case of a wood-burning firepit, allow ashes to cool completely before safely discarding them
