REGIONAL CUISINE > A few foods our region is famous for and where to find them. Shotsy pizza. The Shotsy pizza, featuring mustard sauce, Polish sausage, onions, sauerkraut and cheese, is renowned in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley. Buzzfeed named it as one pizza to try before you die; you can find it at Fazzari’s Pizza in Clarkston before you do. Other local pizza restaurants have created their own versions to rival the original. Bite-size steak. Nope, this isn’t pre-cut steak. Unique to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley, bite-size steak are cuts of beef that are specially battered, seasoned and cooked. Find our Best Bite-Sized Steak winner on page 34. Ferdinand’s Ice Cream. The Washington State University Creamery in Pullman crafts its own ice cream in specialty flavors like Apple Cup Crisp, Cougar Tracks (with fudge and peanut butter cups) and Huckleberry Ripple. While you’re there, pick up some renowned Cougar Cheese. Fry sauce. It’s not ketchup. It’s ketchup, mayonnaise and something more — something magical. This fry-dipping, burger-drenching delight is a common regional condiment. Sharp’s Burger Ranch, with locations in Clarkston and Lewiston, is the area’s original purveyor. Effie Burger. If you’re hungry — like, really hungry — you might be in the mood for an Effie Burger. Effie’s Tavern in Lewiston offers a one-pound hamburger served on a bun the size of a frisbee. If you’re going to take one on, bring an empty stomach or some friends.
