FRESHEN UP THE PAINT & DECOR We’ve said it before: Putting up a fresh coat of paint is a beginner-friendly job that doesn’t require any special skills. “Since any paint job can be redone, it is a great project for someone who is not sure they can be good at home projects,” says Docia M. Boylen, owner of Handyman Connection of Golden. If painting the whole room is intimidating, start with an accent wall—the wall behind the bed is a good option. “In order to pick the right color, search for ‘color wheel’ on the internet and nd a complementary color to what you have on your walls now,” Boylen says. Once you’ve decided on a color, make sure to protect your oors and furniture from drips with plastic sheets before you start painting.
And don’t forget the bed—the most important element of any bedroom. Aside from switching up the appearance with a new duvet cover or throw pillows, try incorporating different accessories to add personality to your bedroom. “If you have a comfy blanket in another room, bring it into the room and experiment with it on the bed, covering a pillow or hung over the foot of the bed or even the headboard,” Boylen says.

"Don't wait until spring to spray for weeds like dandelions or creeping Charlie," says Johnson. "If you spray them, they'll not only soak up nutrients, but also the weed killer." As a bonus, because it's getting chillier, you won't have to worry so much about visitors or pets coming through or accidentally consuming the herbicide.
5. AERATE YOUR YARD If want your outdoor space to look lush and green once the snow melts, Johnson says, aerating your lawn is a great rst step. "It will get air, nutrients, and water into the roots and help produce a stronger lawn," he says. Aerators are cheap and can be found at your favorite home improvement stores. You can even buy specialized sandals if you'd prefer to stomp your way to a perfect lawn. Once your lawn is aerated, give it something to munch on before the rst frost. Purchase a late-season fertilizer, which will help the grass retain vital nutrients during the winter.
6. TRIM YOUR PERENNIALS Snails and slugs spend all autumn chowing down on your beloved perennials—but you can stop them in

Hopefully, you've disconnected and drained your hoses at the season's end to prevent them from freezing—but why not also get your sharpest tools in shearing shape? But here's a fun project that promises to make your backyard usable—even on the chilliest day: Build yourself the biggest, best re pit. Whether you like the look of stone or want to build a brick basin, there are DIYs for any style of re pit you can imagine. (Just make sure to check local regulations rst. WHAT IS BELGIAN MODERN DESIGN?

What is Belgian modern design? This o shoot owes some of its popularity to Scandinavian chic (hygge, anyone?), while others call it a mashup of modern farmhouse and minimalism. "Belgian modern design is a style that extols spare rooms lled with natural and worn materials, including stone oors, distressed oak furnishings, mottled plaster walls, and lots of real bers, especially heavy Belgian linens in pale, neutral colors," explains Michael Boodro, veteran editor and host of The Chairish Podcast. This versatile style can be incorporated into many home decors thanks to its simplicity.
It also echoes notes of biophilic design, which relates to nature, adds Karen Gray-Plaisted of Design Solutions KGP. Several big-box stores o er furniture, lighting, and case goods with clean lines and quiet palettes to complement this aesthetic. And updating to this style doesn't require big bucks as knocko s are basically as good as pricier originals, says Beverly Solomon of the eponymous design rm. She recommends consignment shops and yard sales for quality originals, but notes that few can tell the di erence between welldesigned 1930s pieces and those made today. Here's more about Belgian
