Bakery to open near Marshall

Students will soon be able to enjoy a freshly made, locally produced cupcake in walking distance of campus. Between Faegan’s Café and Pub and Dunkin’ Donuts on South Crouse Avenue, a new bakery will open, aptly named Hot Crouse Buns. The bakery will sell baked goods from other local bakeries in Syracuse, such as Geddes Bakery, Lyncourt Bakery and Harrison Bakery, said Frank Gigliotti, the owner. “We’re just your typical bakery that doesn’t bake,” Gigliotti said. Gloria Taylor, the manager of Hot Crouse Buns, said she will be able to customize and decorate cakes whenever students want them. Gigliotti said see hot

5-star signee McCullough nears arrival at SU after tumultuous year

EW YORK — Walking into the Brewster (N.H.) Academy locker room before a game was nothing new for Chris McCullough. But on Dec. 14, McCullough entered the room, which he used to call his home, as a visitor. He joked and got dressed with his old teammates, just like he used to. Though his life changed completely in just one month, McCullough felt like nothing was different at all. “I came right back and felt like I

was still there,” McCullough said. “I had to go to the locker room and show love to them.” After getting kicked out of Brewster on Nov. 11 for a violation of school rules, he moved from blustery Wolfeboro, N.H., to tropical Bradenton, Fla., to start over at IMG Academy — his third school in as many years. And in just a few weeks, he’ll start over again, this time at Syracuse. Touted as arguably the program’s best recruit since Carmelo Anthony, McCullough, the No. 15 recruit in the nation according to Scout.com, will look to live up to the hype that’s

accompanied him ever since his days playing at Salisbury (Conn.) School. But when he gets to Syracuse,

he’ll continually be asked why he was expelled. He doesn’t like to talk about that part of his past. It’s simply a part of who he is — like the tattoo commemorating his murdered cousin. Or the birthmark that splotches his right arm. Or his high-flying athleticism. Just a fragment of an eventful past. A blip he won’t let stop him from getting to where he wants to be. “There’s going to be a day when the light goes on,” Brewster head coach Jason Smith said, “and people are going to be blown away by what

Men plead not guilty to burglary Alleged Hall of Languages burglar’s case to be heard by drug treatment court By Jacob Pramuk asst. news editor

A homeless man arrested outside Hall of Languages in February pleaded not guilty to a burglary charge on Wednesday morning. He will go before a treatment court to determine, contingent on a further plea, if drug addiction treatment or criminal prosecution is the best option moving forward. County Court Judge Joseph Fahey granted Duncan “Wonderboy” Miller, 21, a judicial diversion, which allows him to go before a Syracuse City Treatment Court. Miller will go before the court on May 5, where City Court Judge James Cecile can see burglary page 10
