On the prowl

hether it was a grand night of drinking and partying or a calm night in, senior Jaime Rivera’s most exciting nights with friends would be wrapped up with the same, joy-inducing proposal: “Let’s go get Taco Bell.” “One of the biggest effects of drinking is getting hungry, and Kimmel is the easiest, cheapest and most convenient solution,” said Rivera, a finance major who describes himself as someone who

has “lived off Taco Bell for the last three years.” His incentive to go to Kimmel Food Court, which housed popular fast-food restaurant chains Taco Bell and Burger King up until last month, is gone. “Now it seems there’s nothing to get excited for,” he said. Kimmel opened Queso’s and Trios Thursday, two conceptual restaurants created by Syracuse University Food Services. They replace Taco Bell and Burger King as the food court’s staple restaurants.

Students excited about Juice Jam lineup By Alexandra Hitzler ASST. NEWS EDITOR

This year’s Juice Jam lineup has the potential to attract recordbreaking crowds, said Sarah Fleisher, director of public relations for University Union. “Last year we sold 7,000 tickets and that’s definitely a possibility again

this year,” Fleisher said in an email. “Juice Jam has a very diverse and successful history.” The ninth annual concert will be held Sept. 9 and will feature electronic dance music disc jockey Calvin Harris and rapper Childish Gambino. The organization has experienced a lot of positive responses

from students since their Aug. 19 announcement of this year’s headliners, Fleisher said. “I think this year’s lineup is awesome,” said sophomore graphic design major Elain Tsai. “I love Childish Gambino. It definitely makes up for last year’s Block Party.”

Student organizations to utilize electronic application system for funding requests By Dylan Segelbaum ASST. COPY EDITOR

Student organizations requesting finances will no longer have to handsubmit a 20-page packet to the desk of Student Association Comptroller

Stephen DeSalvo. In preparation for this semester’s budget season, SA has created a new electronic application system for student groups with the goal of ameliorating the inefficiencies of the past.

“It should be a very easy process,” DeSalvo said. “I think it’s a win-win for everybody.” The new application, which will be used exclusively for semester budgets and special programming requests,

will be accessible through OrgSync. All registered student organizations in good standing at Syracuse University are already required to have an account with the service, he said. The cost of OrgSync is also split

between SA and the Office of Student Activities, making it the logical choice for hosting the applications, as it possesses this capability, DeSalvo said.
