President's

Reports Hi Members, Can you believe that this report takes us over Christmas and into the New Year. Time is certainly moving quickly so I will touch on the coming months with what information I have. Firstly, since my last report the Board made the decision to put a hold on our Over 55’s Resort that we are building on Reservoir Road. This was a very difficult decision, but the Board took into account the dramatic rise in building costs and continuing uncertainty in parts of the world; as well as the rising costs of living expenses in Australia which is a big problem for many people living and working in our community. The Board went through the information supplied by our Executive Management Team and Consultants in detail, and the Board unanimously decided to not stop the project, but to put the construction process on hold for two (2) years. During this time, groundwork and remediation of the site will take place so that once these early works are concluded that we are ready to start construction in the near future. I really appreciate your understanding of our decision. I am happy to report that we have lots happening in our three Clubs leading up to Christmas and the following months with great entertainment and events for you to enjoy. Please check the advertising for what is happening and where so you can arrange your Christmas and social gatherings around these events. Our very popular Annual Children’s Christmas Party will be held at Blacktown Showground on Sunday 3rd December from 10am-3pm so I hope you have registered. This is always a fun day with free rides, shows, a petting zoo, face painting, treats & gift. When you receive your tickets, they can be

4

used for drinks and food for the children. There is also a very special visit from Santa and Friends. Food stalls will also be available with funds raised throughout the day by the Club going directly to help the Children’s Wards at Blacktown & Mt Druitt Hospitals. One of my favourite days is the “Tin Shed Luncheon” on Friday 1st December. This gives us the opportunity to honour our Tin Shed, Foundation and VIP Members who have given over 50 years of their life to our Club starting with Workers Blacktown, Campbell Street. We owe a lot to these wonderful people as they have given us the foundation and continued support to allow us to now have 3 clubs, 29 sporting groups, the best privately owned sporting fields in NSW, top entertainment and the ability to help many charities in the Blacktown area. Thank you to my Board Colleagues, Morgan Stewart, Managers & Staff as we work together to do the best we can for our members and community. It takes a team working together to get results. Congratulations to all our sporting groups for your wonderful results this year. There have been amazing results from so many of you. The Board and I have attended many of the presentations and are so proud of their results and the friendships they create amongst themselves. Thank you to all the hard-working committees and behind the scenes workers. It takes all of you and your teams to make it a success. Winning is certainly great but being there, supporting the team and good Sportsmanship is equally important. We wish you all the very best in 2024. Our Director’s Thank You Christmas Raffles will take place at our 3 venues. Tuesday 5th December - Workers Blacktown Tuesday 12th December - Workers Sports Thursday 14th December -Workers Hubertus This raffle is free for our members. Try to be there, swipe your card and drop your ticket into the barrel and see if you can win some Christmas goodies to help with Christmas.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and myself, I am happy to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and happy, safe and healthy new year. I thank you all for the support and kindness you have shown us during 2023. Take care and look after each other. We also thank our Management Team & Staff for their hard work once again. Unfortunately, some difficult decisions have had to have been made this year relating to the business side of running our Clubs, particularly catering, and are a hard part of being a Director or an Executive Manager. We wish any of those staff affected the very best in whatever you choose to do in your near future and thank you for your support over many years. There will be lots happening over the next few months with Australia Day, school holiday activities, Lunar New Year & Valentines’ Day. Please check out the advertising and announcements from these departments to plan what you would like to participate in. It has been a hard year and we have lost too many of our members. Our deepest sympathy to anyone who has lost loved ones or friends. I know it is a very difficult time when this happens to you. Try to be strong and ask for support if you need it. Our wonderful Welfare Officer Harold Becker is always there to help you if needed. Until next time. Take care and be kind to each other.

CEO's

Reports Hello Members, As we move from a challenging 2023 into a hopefully more upbeat New Year, I want to reflect on how you, our members, our clubs and our staff help to enrich our Western Sydney communities. Sunday 3rd December, we’ll be at Blacktown Showground to stage our wonderful annual Children’s Christmas Party, with funds raised going to improvements for the Blacktown & Mount Druitt Hospitals children’s wards. A couple of days before, on Friday 1st December, our Tin Shed Luncheon at Workers Blacktown will honour our Tin Shed Members who’ve given more than 50 years’ support to their Club - and their communities. As they do every year, our dedicated staff are working up a terrific program of events and entertainment for Christmas and the New Year. They’re already working on new promotions, activities and events for 2024. All year round, our clubs – Workers Blacktown, Workers Sports and Workers Hubertus – are a welcoming and secure social hubs for 55,000 members, their families and guests. They are places of friendship, celebration, safety and community engagement. Our 29 sporting groups support 7,000 participants, from kids to seniors, and our H.E. Laybutt Reserve is one of the premium community sporting fields complex in the state. We help sustain more than 100 community organisations, charities, schools and sporting groups - the economic value of our contribution is more than $3 million annually. Again, this year we will contribute almost $1 million in cash and kind to community groups through the ClubGRANTS scheme. We lead and fund multi-year campaigns

6

against domestic violence and diabetes prevention and detection and we support them with programs and activities within our clubs. We’ve had our challenges this year and the decision by our board of directors in August to postpone the start of building work on our over55s living project, Parkside, was one of those. But that two-year postponement was the right decision; our board was not prepared to risk our clubs’ finances, even for such a wonderful project, by launching the project into this really difficult economic environment. For that wise judgement, my appreciation to President Kay Kelly and her fellow directors. When the Parkside work resumes, we will be all the better for the delay. The development will be supported by more equity from our group, better protecting members’ interests, and we are using the delay to improve the Parkside concept and the benefits to its future residents and our clubs. In the meantime, we are moving ahead with our development application for the first stage of our Hubertus redevelopment at Luddenham, a service centre and retail outlets close to the Western Sydney International Airport complex that begins operating in 2026. This project, too, will help us towards a secure future for our clubs and members. My condolences to those who have lost loved ones and friends this year and can I remind members who have suffered a loss, or other health and family difficulties (or if you know of other members in difficulty) that our Workers Welfare Team, are on hand for help and guidance towards other caring services. On behalf of the management team, our staff, and our board of directors, I want to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a safe, prosperous and enjoyable New Year. Please take care of yourselves and each other and I look forward to welcoming you in our clubs, often, during the coming year.

Community Connect WHAT'S NEXT FOR WESTERN SYDNEY CHANGING DIABETES? Western Sydney Changing Diabetes is a five-year partnership between Western Sydney Diabetes and Workers Lifestyle Group. The program supports Blacktown City Council’s commitment to building environments and services that underpin a healthy community. Workers Lifestyle Group has committed $500,000 over five years for detection and prevention in the Blacktown and Western Sydney community. Western Sydney Changing Diabetes will launch a new community-based diabetes risk reduction campaign in Western Sydney in 2024.

18

The primary objective of this campaign is to support Western Sydney adults to reduce diabetes risk by making positive lifestyle changes. For people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, Western Sydney Changing Diabetes’ support will help prevent, even reverse, progress of the disease. All club members will be encouraged to join the campaign and embrace the challenge of preventing Type 2 diabetes through weight loss, healthy eating and healthier lifestyle.

WESTERN SYDNEY COMES TO PARLIAMENT Workers Lifestyle Group's CEO Morgan Stewart was welcomed by Blacktown MP Stephen Bali at the Western Sydney Comes to Parliament presentation to NSW Parliament on October 11. SydWest CEO Elfa Moraitakis, WentWest CEO Ray Messom and Australian Catholic University’s Blacktown Dean Dr Valentine Mukuria presented to parliamentarians their findings from special community forums that were held at WEXPO, hosted by Workers Blacktown in September. A WEXPO round table session on Workplace Health included Morgan and Glen Maberly, director of Western Sydney Diabetes. “Workers Lifestyle Group will always strongly advocate for the needs of people in our local community and support organisation doing the heavy lifting in social services, education, health and wellbeing and so much more,” Morgan said. Stephen Bali said events such as WEXPO played a key role in highlighting issues within the wider Western Sydney community that often went unnoticed, such as the cost-of-living pressures

particularly on newly arrived refugees and community attitudes towards local healthcare management. "WEXPO has demonstrated that organisations that have community welfare as their prime mission can have a voice in terms of highlighting key issues that leads to a better understanding of the real conditions faced by our community," Stephen said. He thanked the WEXPO organisers, who had invested many hours in a uniquely Western Sydney showcase of business presentations, exchange of ideas and development of solutions. Pictured below from left: WentWest CEO Ray Messom; David Harris, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Treaty, Gaming and Racing, Veterans, Medical Research and the Central Coast; MP for Prospect Dr Hugh McDermott; Australian Catholic University Blacktown Dean Dr Valentine Mukuria; MP for Winston Hills Mark Taylor; MP for Mt Druitt Edmond Atalla; CEO SydWest Multicultural Services Elfa Moraitakis; MP for Castle Hill Mark Hodges, Workers Lifestyle Group CEO Morgan Stewart; MP for Blacktown Stephen Bali.

Club activities include free dance and exercise classes, healthy cooking demonstrations and diabetes detection testing.

Our organisation came from very humble beginnings – literally a Blacktown tin shed in 1955 to become one of Western Sydney’s most successful member-owned hospitality and lifestyle businesses. We pride ourselves on maintaining a true sense of community. Today, Workers Lifestyle Group has more than 55,000 members and three clubs – Workers Blacktown, Workers Sports and Workers Hubertus. We proudly support more than 100 schools, sports clubs, and community organisations in Blacktown and Greater Western Sydney. It’s why we support WSABE’s award for Outstanding Community Organisation, recognising groups that strive to improve the community’s social, cultural and environmental wellbeing. This Outstanding Community Award recognised and celebrated our community heroes, in front of Premier Chris Minns, guests and the Workers Lifestyle Group team.

BETTER FOUNDATION GALA RAISES MONEY TO PREVENT BLINDNESS We welcome Kerrie Powers, new CEO of the Better Foundation, which raises money for stateof-the-art equipment, bestpractice research and advanced education for clinical staff at the two fine teaching hospitals of Blacktown and Mt Druitt. We were pleased to sponsor of the Better Foundation Gala, held in our Diamond Showroom in September. Stephen Bali MP and the Better Foundation Board must be congratulated for such a fun and successful event. MC Tahir (from Here Come the Habibs) welcomed NSW Health Minister Ryan Park, Miss World 1972 Belinda Green, former Western Sydney Wanderers goalkeeper and Asian Champion Player of the Year Ante Covic, along with many others.

Workers Lifestyle Group honours all the finalists for their exceptional work to improve community life in Western Sydney.

The Gala raised more than $60,000 to purchase eye injection equipment, to reduce time lags and distance constraints that increase the risk of eyesight problems and blindness. Workers Lifestyle Group has supported Better Foundation for many years, most recently to fund asthma testing equipment, bedside bottle warmers for newborns and glucose monitoring sensors for people undergoing insulin therapies. Funds raised at the Workers Lifestyle Group Christmas Party will also be donated to the children's ward at Blacktown Hospital, as our further commitment to Blacktown families and children.

There can only be one winner, though, and this year it is ACE - Arts & Cultural Exchange.

BLACKTOWN DEMENTIA SUPPORT GROUP Former Workers Blacktown employee Tina Maamari was recently thanked by the Blacktown Dementia Support Group for her caring assistance while she worked at the club. The Support Group is assisted by the Western Sydney Local Health District, ASET Nurses and Anglicare in providing a safe, supportive environment for their meetings. The Blacktown Dementia Support Group meets at Workers Blacktown every Thursday.
