NEW SPRING MENU AVAILABLE THURSDAY 17th SEPTEMBER nineteen21 restaurant and bar celebrates first anniversary It has been a little over a year since nineeten21 opened its doors and burst onto the Tweed dining scene. Located in Tweed Heads Bowls Club, this modern Australian restaurant has quickly become a hotspot for vibrant dining in the local area. Time may have flown over the past year, but nineteen21 is making a point not to forget those that have made the restaurant a success. A huge thank you to our members and guests for embracing this new restaurant and making it a success. Thank you to all the chefs, kitchen and front of house staff for their dedication and hard work over the past year. For this special anniversary THBC Executive Chef Brad Whittaker and nineteen21 Head Chef Steven Cherry have produced a spring menu with vibrant produce from the local area. They recommend the salt and pepper chicken served with a sweet chilli relish for entrée, seafood neapolitan with hot smoked salmon, prawns, scallops and calamari served with a classic tomato sauce and filei calabresi pasta as a main, or try veal medallions grilled with spinach and mushrooms, finished with oven-roasted parsnips, served on a sweet potato and tomato purée. Finally our pastry chef Teri Jorgensen recommends the perfect finish with a homemade passionfruit mousse or baked custard pudding with rhubarb, berries and vanilla bean ice cream. CARD Making Christmas wishes come true for children, young people and families in need.By donating to The Family Centre Giving Tree, you are helping local families $10 in difficult circumstances to share in the joy of Christmas. This year Tweed Heads SHOPPING CARD Bowls Club will support a local charity “The Family Centre” by displaying a Christmas Giving Tree at front reception. Members and Guests can purchase a Christmas Card decoration for amounts of $5, $10, $20 or more if they wish. Their card will then be hung on the Chistmas Giving Tree with their Christmas message. Just prior to Christmas all donations will be tallied up and we will pass on the donations to The Family Centre by way of shopping cards.

The Family Centre is a not-for-profit community organisation established in Tweed Shire in 1988. They provide a range of services that inspire change and provide opportunities for children, young people and families to build on their relationships and parenting skills. All our services are focused on improving the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and families – particularly those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged.

SUPPORTING CHILDRENS READING - STORY DOGS
GET BEHIND THE CAUSE THIS DOGTOBER THBC have been proud sponsors of the Tweed Story Dogs program for over five years now. This fantastic organisation provides a free reading support service to primary schools in the Tweed region, by employing a powerful method- reading to a dog. The technique improves reading and communication skills for children who need it the most. The dogs involved are accredited companion animals that volunteer with their owner/handler as a team, the dogs make ideal reading companions because they help increase relaxation, listen attentively, never judge and allow children to proceed at their own pace. Story dogs co-founder Janine Sigley said “children in lower primary classes with low literacy or low confidence and behavioural problems are selected for the program”. Janine said that the funding from THBC was used for putting a volunteer dog team into a local primary school for one year. The ongoing funding has meant about five children each week have been helped with their reading skills over the year, which is a great result. This year our support funds a very special team again, Janie Bladwell who is a club member and her beautiful little dog Nora. Janie and Nora popped into the Club for a visit recently and Nora received lots of cuddles from the staff. OUR CLUB, YOUR COMMUNITY
THBC members can feel very proud that their Club supports those less fortunate in their community along with local children in their sporting endeavours.
Community groups from across the Tweed attended a special morning tea held in the Blue Room and hosted by the Club Grants Tweed Committee on Tuesday 21 July. The event brought together representatives from Clubs across the Tweed to present cash donations to successful applicants through the Club Grants scheme for the past year. Tweed Heads Bowls Club is a proud supporter of many local charities with over $500,000 donated in cash and in-kind support over the last years alone.
During the morning tea Deputy Captain Josh Farrell of the Tweed Coast Rural Fire Service gave a presentation outlining the project that was completed at their station thanks to the support of the Clubs. Mr Farrell thanked all of the Clubs and recognised the valuable contribution they have made for the greater Tweed community. The Club Grants Tweed committee which is made up of ten local Clubs has donated almost 1.5 million dollars to almost two hundred recipients in the last three years.
Many of the charities would simply not exist without this support from our Club and the tireless efforts of their volunteers. I have seen firsthand the benefits and the positive outcomes that this financial support provides. It’s not just the cash donations that make the difference it’s the many dining and gift vouchers that we donate to these groups to use as prizes in their fund raising efforts. This year alone we have donated almost 900 kilos of sausages to local tennis, soccer and sporting clubs as well as local primary and high schools.

BEHIND THE SCENES | OUR BAKERY Some members may not know that THBC has had its own bakery for the past 20 years. Priding itself on providing the Club with beautifully prepared and carefully crafted pastries every morning, members and guests can enjoy these baked delights from any of the dining outlets throughout the venue, including The Café, The Brasserie and nineteen21 Restaurant and Bar, they can even be purchased from The Pantry and taken home to enjoy. A qualified chef and award winning pastry chef, Teri Jorgensen heads the team and relishes the challenge to provide the Club with fresh baked products daily. For her, the working day begins long before the Club opens, her day is filled with the smell of tasty treats such as vanilla slice, lemon tarts, apple turnovers and good old fashioned aussie custard tarts!

Teri was inspired by her mum to become a pastry chef. Describing her mum as a masterful baker, Teri went on to say “there are many memories of baking blueberry muffins and making pancakes on a Sunday morning”. Teri says that her friends and family are still major influences in her creations. Teri started her chef’s apprenticeship with Tweed Heads Bowls Club when she was 16 years old, she has been working as the pastry chef for over a year now and relishes opportunities to test out her creativity, she tells us that the three most important things when making pastries is to take your time, follow a recipe and keep your working environment nice and cold. If you’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, head into The Café and try out one of the teams fabulous creations. If you’re in the mood for something savoury, you can’t go past a good old-fashioned meat pie, you can even buy a family size one from The Pantry to take home with you!
