General Manager Gerard Robinson, Operations Manager Kirk Vidler, Executive Assistant Yvette Chambers, Marketing Coordinator Emilie Gachassin and THBC Team Members Pam Campbell and Gay Buckley took part in Fred’s Place Sleepout on Thursday 28th July. The Fred’s Place Community Sleepout took place at the Twin Towns Masonic Centre. The THBC team had a glimpse of what it was like to experience homelessness by sleeping rough for one night. They slept outside with just a sleeping bag and some cardboard boxes to protect them from the elements. Around 70 attendees from the local community gathered to support the event ‘Fred’s Place is an intervention and prevention support service that assists people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the Tweed region. It was established by the St Vincent de Paul Society NSW Lismore Central Council in 2013’. Our General Manager Gerard Robinson was one of the Event Ambassadors for the 2016 Fred’s Place Community Sleepout. We are happy to announce that the 2016 Fred’s Place Community Sleepout fundraiser, doubled its initial fundraising target of $20,000 and raised over $40,000. CLUBGRANTS TWEED COMMITTEE Community groups from across the Tweed along with local MP’s and special guests attended an afternoon tea hosted by the ClubGRANTS Tweed Committee; it was held at the Tweed Heads Bowls Club last month. The event brought together representatives from Clubs across the Tweed to present cash donations to successful applicants through the ClubGRANTS scheme for the past year. ClubGRANTS Tweed Committee Chairman Mr Lindsay Howard-Smith explained this is the second time in recent years that we have held this event and we were pleased to welcome local MP’s and council executives. It’s important that Clubs are recognised for the valuable contribution they make for the greater Tweed community said Mr Howard-Smith. Without these much needed funds and the volunteer’s tireless work many of these hard working community groups would simply not exist. The ClubGRANTS Tweed Committee welcomes new applicants and interested groups can contact the Tweed Shire Council or their local Club for more information.
