TO PA N T H E R S Welcome to our November / December What’s On magazine. Reflecting on 2016 it has been one of lots of change for our Bathurst Club, but it’s safe to say we’re looking forward to the future. In September, we took over the ownership of the Club bistro, with many of the staff from the previous operation staying on. With the Club now running the restaurant, we will strive to deliver quality, value and variety in our food offering to our members and guests. We appreciate your patience in this changeover and welcome your feedback. Our Thursday Members Draw has been re-launched and is now part of a double-jackpot draw that also runs on Sundays. This means the money will be won more frequently - $12,000 must be won every 8 weeks. We also have some new appointments in our management team. I would like to welcome David Manning as our new Operations Manager and Andrew Morgan as our new Head Chef. They are filling key roles in our team and will help take us into the next chapters of the Club. Sport continues to be a big focus in our club – congratulations to
our winter sports teams – with the Bathurst Panthers Rugby League having one its best seasons in some time and the Bathurst Panthers Netball Club growing to be a very prosperous club. To all our sponsored clubs – snooker, darts, soccer, basketball, hockey and cricket – thanks for a great year. Our V8 race weekend ran smoothly, we had some very large groups in over the weekend and we hope our visitors enjoyed their stay and return for another great race next year. Well done to our staff - you worked hard and got through a hectic weekend. Finally I would like to wish all our members a safe and Merry Christmas.I hope you can spend some time with us at the club over those festivities. And of course we look forward to a very big 2017, where we are planning our next stage of renovations for the restaurant and kids area to deliver you an even better club.

BATHURST PANTHERS FOOTY WRAP GROUP 10 RUGBY LEAGUE Season Wrap Up – with Dennis Comerford (Football Club President) LEAGUE TAG The girls had another fantastic season against some strong opposition this year and finished the competition season as minor premiers. Unfortunately they were defeated by two points in both their grand final qualifying games and for the first time missed out on a grand final appearance. UNDER 18S Started the season a bit slow with some narrow defeats but bounced back to finish in a semi-final position but were knocked out in the second semi-final. FIRST DIVISION Started the season very slow and like the under 18s had some narrow defeats, however after finding their feet they came home strong with 12 straight victories including a great win in extra time over favorites Orange CYMS in the grand final to become Group 10 First Division premiers PREMIER LEAGUE Had a good year finishing the season in third position which was a great improvement over previous years. The young guns really stood up against the more fancied experienced sides. Two defeats, both by two points in the grand final qualifiers finished their season but it was a great effort.

Bistro Specials MON - WED
In September, Bathurst Panthers took over the operation of their restaurant and catering facilities. Many staff from the previous business have stayed on – and many new staff have been added to the team. The Bistro is now managed by our Head Chef, Andrew Morgan. Andrew has many years of experience, and is excited to be leading the catering at the Club.
We have a new menu – but have endeavoured to keep many of our members’ favourites on there as well. The Bistro will strive for the best quality food – at a reasonable price. Make sure you check out the daily lunch specials, chef’s suggestions, and members only meal deals.

RUDE READY FOR FINAL HURRAH Rodney Rude has never been one to hold back and he is ready to give his fans one last night full of fun and laughter. The funniest live stand-up comedian the country has ever produced has decided to call it a day after nearly 50 years on stage. Known for being loud, rude and politically incorrect, the 73-year-old said he could not leave his home town of Bathurst out of his farewell tour and is eager to give his audience one final stitch of laughter. “This is the absolute end of it though. I retired in 2013 but I lied as I was taking care of my father. My brother is now looking after my father as I go on tour to say a final goodbye to all my fans. I’ve always said my audience is what makes me so good and I can’t wait to get on stage and tell them a whole lot of new jokes plus some classics.” Rude is calling on all his fans to come and see him one last time, even though he knows he will continue to be watched and listened to. “I always aimed to make my live shows the best shows that I do,” he said. “I do 2 live sets in each show so people definitely get what they paid for. Of course I have been lucky enough to sell 4 million CD’s and DVD’s. I even had a number one album in Australia in the 1980s where I held off so many international artists like Michael Jackson and Tina Turner.”
Despite retiring, Rude has let us all in on a little secret he has kept for some time. “I’ve got 11 different types of products of my work that I have never released that is just sitting in my home,” he said. “I will leave that to my kids so they can keep releasing my comedy in the future.” Rodney Rude’s final Bathurst show will be held on Friday December 2 in the Panthers auditorium. Tickets $61.50 – on sale at reception now. Don’t miss your chance to farewell the fabulous Rodney Rude.

ANOTHER BIG WINNER AT PANTHERS One of our lucky members walked away with a brand new car recently after winning a promotion. Over 10 weeks one member was selected and given a key with one key opening a box with car keys in it. On September 30 the competition came to its head when all 10 winners lined up to find out who held the lucky key. After 8 unsuccessful attempts, our week 9 winner – Helen Bower – stepped up with her key and ‘click’, the lock opened. She is now the proud owner of the Golf Tsi Hatch – with comprehensive insurance and on road costs paid for.

ANCIENT WORLD MEETS MODERN TIMES IN ROME Italy’s vibrant capital lives in the present, but no other city in the world encompasses its past so powerfully. With over 2500 years of history spread across the city, Rome is the perfect example of how ancient meets modern day life. A vast collection of ancient architectural structures, ruins, monuments, fountains and works of art make Rome one of the top visited areas around the world and the ideal place to visit whether for a romantic or family holiday. Get ready to go on a whirlwind trip of beautiful Rome, from its must see sights to the greatest food and wine the world has to offer. The Colosseum Located in the heart of Rome, the Colosseum is now the most recognisable of the city’s classical buildings Opened in the year 80 AD, the Colosseum was originally built for staging entertainment shows but later used for gladiator fights. During fights, gladiators would fight against their fellow gladiators or even animals during the Roman Empire. Thousands of tourists visit the Colosseum on a daily basis. A variety of tours are available including audio headsets.
The Pantheon Just a short stroll down the road you will find the Pantheon – the most preserved and influential building of Ancient Rome. The Roman temple is dedicated to all the gods of pagan Rome and is best known for its architecture with the biggest brick dome in history. It is considered the forerunner for all modern places of worship and is the most copied and imitated of all ancient works. Trevi Fountain You know that place in Rome where everyone throws a coin over their head into a pool of water – here it is. The Trevi Fountain is situated in the Trevi district of Rome. It is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and traditional legend says if visitors throw a coin into the fountain they are ensured of a return to Rome. Surrounding the Trevi Fountain is a range of stores as well as restaurants and food stalls with the most amazing and traditional pizza and pasta on offer.
built as a meeting place for artists and poets during the 18th century. To this day the steps are used for the exact same reason. From the top of the steps you look down onto the beautiful streets of Rome with thousands of people walking around. Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel You simply have not been to Rome unless you have visited Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel. The headquarters of the Catholic Church, the Sistine Chapel is the official residence of the Pope – who makes random appearances from his balcony when home. We recommend you organise a tour of the Sistine Chapel and Vatican which takes you through several museums including the Raphael Rooms, Sistine Chapel, St Peter’s and more. If you have time, you can also purchase tickets to go to the top of the Vatican where you will get a beautiful view of Rome.
Spanish Steps If you want to be in the hustle and bustle of Rome, you have to visit the Spanish Steps. Located between the Piazza di Spagna at the base and the Piazza Trinita del Monti at the top, the steps were
