PRESIDENT’S REPORT Hello Members, When you read this report the election for Board of Directors will be in full swing or possibly over. Your vote for this election is/was very important as it is the first bi-annual election, and as the Club is venturing on very important expenditure over the next few years, it is very important to have the right people who you trust looking after the Clubs future. Congratulations to all candidates who were elected for a two-year term as you all have a big job ahead of you. Thank you to all the members who showed their interest in the Club and who took the time to vote. I would like to thank my Board colleagues, Management, Staff and members for the support they have given me and for making our Club and dreams proceed into reality. We have so much to be thankful for and anything we achieve is as a complete team, and you are all an important part of it.
I would like to remind our members that we have many Sporting Bodies associated with the Club. I know you could find one that your children or yourself could become part of. It is a good way to meet new friends and enhance your life. The committees of all the Sporting Bodies work hard to keep their relevant sport or social activity going and I thank them for their commitment. Without their help these things would not be available. I would like to welcome new Club members and remind you that your membership covers 3 clubs under the Workers banner. Workers Blacktown, Workers Sports and Workers Hubertus Country Club. They are all a little different in their offerings so take the time to visit and enjoy the facilities. The Entertainment Department continues to deliver great entertainment and I thank Liz for her efforts and our Marketing team lead by Tracey is on the ball with the varied promotions.
The Board and Senior Management recently held a strategic planning session. These sessions allow both the Board and Management to map out the future business plan and direction for the Club. These sessions are important as it empowers the current board and management to ensure both the future and long term viability of the club group and to ensure all future boards and managers have a strong plan in place to progress with.
The talent quest has been running on Sunday afternoons at the Hubertus Club with the Grand Final being held at Workers Blacktown on Saturday 8th April. The talent has been of a high standard and I am confident that many will grace our clubs in the coming years.
How proud we are once again. The Anita Cobby 30th Anniversary Memorial Dinner was held at our Club and won the Blacktown City Community Event of the Year. Congratulations to Gary Raymond and his committee for the wonderful job they did.
Until next time, Keep Smiling and be kind to each other
I was pleased to attend the Australia Day Awards with Gary Raymond, Martha Jabour and Kathryn Szyszka (Anita Cobby’s sister), fellow Directors, Jim Buckley, Bob Vincent, Pat Collins and Jack Miller to hear the winner announced.
Kay Kelly
The Workers AGM will be held at Workers Blacktown on Sunday 2nd April and it would be great to see you there.

Workers Blacktown Car Park Opens Each Day At 9am - 7 Days a Week

GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT Hello Members; We are looking at an exciting time for the club group with a continuation of design and concepts for development works to take place that will diversify the clubs’ business model and ensure the long term viability of the club group. We will be looking at some renovation works at the Main Club in the coming year, to continue to upgrade the facilities for all members and guests. • • •
Toilets in both Impressions and Jack McNamara Lounge with the introduction of parent’s rooms. Proposed installation of a kids and family area. Upgrade to tables and chairs in the Reg McGrath and Jack McNamara Lounge.
The installation of the carpark boom gate and ticketing system at the Main Club are complete. There is currently a trial period underway until it becomes fully operational on 1 May 2017. Staff are able to assist you with any car park enquiries. Extensive signage placed both in numerous areas in the carpark and the club will also assist members. I am happy to say that the first Development Application for the bulk earthworks for our new Sporting Fields on our land adjacent to Walters Rd was lodged with council in late 2016. We hope to have a favourable response early 2017 to enable commencement of works. The DA for the grandstands and other facilities is due to follow. Works on the preparation of the DA for the first stage and masterplan of the over 55’s resort are still being undertaken with the hope that the DA will be lodged in early 2017. More information sessions for members are planned for this year to keep you all up to date on the progress. Across our Clubs we will be having a great array of promotions, raffles and events for all members and we continue to see a great variety in entertainment. Liz Star and her team work hard to ensure the best in local and international acts are booked here at Blacktown Workers. Again I remind you of our Responsible Service of alcohol policy under the NSW Liquor Act 2007 and the various signs throughout all of our clubs indicating the Code of Practice for the supply and service of alcohol. This is the law and our staff are all trained and are following the requirements of legislation when enforcing these rules. The 2016 Annual Report is now available on the website or if you wish a hard copy please see member’s services and they can arrange one for you. I will have a full rundown in the Annual Report outlining the results from 2016. To those members who lost loved ones, my condolences.

SPORTING BODIES REPORTS BWC SMALL BOATS & RECREATION CLUB
BWC SOCCER CLUB
April May & June we kick into high gear with lots of family trips. April we venture to Wyangala Dam 300 km west over the Easter Long Weekend. The Club record to beat is a 16kg cod caught by John McIntosh back in 2012.
The hectic first few months of registration and arranging teams has come to an end and season 2017 kicks off this month and from our Mini Roos to our all Age Teams it will be great to see our players back on the field and enjoying the game they love.
May we travel to Sussex Inlet to compete in the BROE Classic. Held by the local Bowling Club Fisho’s, Clubs from NSW compete for the titles on offer. Our club has won the flathead titles for 3 years & intends to defend them this year as well.
Once again we would like to extend a big thank you to our parents/carers and family friends who give up their precious time to volunteer to coach, manage or help us out during the year. We couldn’t do it without you! To all our soccer family take care out there and have a fabulous season 2017!
June you will find us down at Greenwell Point for the Queen’s Birthday Weekend. Offering both inside & outside fishing it’s a great place to unwind & plan our next adventure? Bored then check us out www.smallboatsrecreation. com Darren McIntosh Club Secretary Small Boat & Recreation Club Inc smallboats@optusnet.com.au
