PRESIDENT’S REPORT Welcome to 2016

On behalf of my fellow Board colleagues I would like to to wish you and your families a safe, happy and healthy New Year. A new year can bring a fresh start or an opportunity to fulfil many dreams. I hope whatever is in your plans for 2016 you can execute with pleasant memories and great outcomes.

The Club will be hosting the prestigious “ACE Awards” on 6th April. The ACE Awards are like the entertainment industries logies. If you would like to attend tickets will be available but don’t leave it too long as after last years success they will go quickly.

We finished off 2015 with our 60th Birthday Celebration Night in the packed Diamond Showroom. It was good to share this night with so many members and to see them enjoying the night so much reminiscing with Lucky Star, Roland Storm, Bryan Davies and Little Patti. Plenty of accolades were received. Thanks Liz for booking a show so fitting for the occasion.

Workers Hubertus has a new look with walls disappearing, outdoor gaming, painting, new carpet, catering and updated furniture.

Our 60th Anniversary book is now available for purchase for $25. This is a nice hard covered book containing plenty of history and photos from the “tin shed” until 2015. It can also be downloaded from our website.

Workers Blacktown has now re-opened the revolving restaurant “Cucina Locale” with a fresh new look and menu.

Congratulations to Club Director Mark Cowgill and General Manager Neale Vaughan who received awards at the LCA Conference in recognition of over 15 years service to the Club industry. Well done. Our Tin Shed, Foundation, Life and VIP members Xmas Lunch is always a great success where we get the opportunity to thank our long standing members for their vision and support. These special members received a copy of the Clubs 60th Anniversary book. How proud were we all when we held the “White Ribbon” breakfast. In 2014 we had 350 attend and our target for 2015 was 600. With well over 700 attending we were ecstatic on how the community came together to fight this terrible problem. The Workers Club received accreditation and was acknowledge for our commitment. We are the first Club in Australia to receive this. Congratulations to Shelley, Management and staff for your efforts. I am aware a lot are waiting on news of the new sports precinct over 55’s resort and aged care facility that I have previously mentioned. Unfortunately I do not have any more to report at this stage as we are still in discussions, meetings and planning which all need to come together before we can announce much more. We also need to have some of the land changed from core to non core and the members will be required to vote on this at the 2016 AGM. The AGM is scheduled for Sunday 10th April and we will have a presentation prior to this date for any members who wish to attend.

Workers Sports also has a new look. The Grange Buffet is fully operational with great comments coming through.

Your membership covers all 3 clubs so take the time to check them out and enjoy all the facilities. Good luck to all our Sporting Bodies during 2016 and thank you to all the hard working committees who give their time so members and their children can enjoy the facilities and make new friends. I am very proud to be President of our Clubs but I am only 1 of a strong team. I thank my fellow Board colleagues and Management for putting in the time and dedication to pursue the dreams and results for our members. On behalf of the Board I thank you for choosing Workers as your Club and hope we see you around the Club. Until next time, Keeping Smiling and be Kind to each other.

GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT Happy New Year to all Members. What a milestone our 60th year was in 2015, thank you to all our members and guests who helped make the year such a memorable one. It was a year that saw some of the most extensive renovations and building works undertaken by the club. Both the Sports Club and Workers Hubertus look fantastic with great feedback being received. The building works for the Sports Club outside area commences mid-January and are expected to be finished mid-year. These renovations will see an improved and larger children’s play area as well as upgraded sound and vision system to allow for the best in sports programs to be televised on the large 170” LED screen whilst enjoying the upgraded modern outdoor facilities. What about a new bar, gelato and catering facility - this will be the place to bring the family too. All renovation works at Workers Hubertus are completed and it has really transformed the club, please go and see for yourself all the changes. Enjoy a meal at Westview Restaurant while you are there. Why not try Cucina Locale on level 5 at Blacktown Workers Club, our newest catering offering at our great revolving restaurant. See inside for further details. As you can see the Board of Directors and Management continue to look at improving, expanding and upgrading all facilities at all 3 clubs for all our members and guests.

How proud I am to advise you that Blacktown Workers Group is the 1st registered club in Australia to be recognised with White Ribbon workplace accreditation. A wonderful achievement. To Shelley Fletcher and her HR team well done. To our Board of Directors, management and staff thank you for your ongoing commitment to getting the message out that domestic violence is not acceptable. I will in the next edition have a breakdown for you on the 2015 Annual report. May I remind all members of the 2016 AGM to be held at Blacktown Workers Club Campbell St Blacktown on Sunday 10 April 2016 commencing at 9am in the Diamond Showroom. Only full financial members at the time will be eligible to attend. Doors will open and registration will commence at 8am. Director’s elections will be held from 31 March to 4 April 2016. Only full financial members at the time of the election will be eligible to vote. More information on both the AGM and Directors election to follow. Again I remind you of our Responsible Service of alcohol policy under the NSW Liquor Act 2007 and the various signs throughout all of our clubs indicating the Code of Practice for the supply and service of alcohol. This is the law and our staff are all trained and are required by law to ensure it is enforced.

The Board, Management and our builders continue to develop the proposed plans for the major diversification project at the Sports Club involving the proposed development of a new sports centre of excellence to be constructed on the current industrial land on Walters Rd and the consideration of an over 55’s seniors style resort living, aged care and childcare facilities on the current sporting fields adjacent to the club on the Reservoir Rd side. We have further meetings with council this month to continue the development process.

To those members who lost loved ones my condolences.

Members will be advised as the project progresses but it is an exciting development in the expanding business plan that the Board have adopted to make Blacktown Workers Club a truly diversified business.

General Manager. Chairman Blacktown. Liquor Accord. White Ribbon Ambassador.

TREASURER’S REPORT Hello Members, Happy New Year to all members, the Board of Directors, Management, Staff and their families. Thanks to all the volunteers at the Children’s Christmas Party, without you it would not have been such a great day for them. The past year was our 60th Birthday and what a great time was had by all. 11 cars were given away in promotions; that was one car each month. On the 23 November the Club held the White Ribbon Breakfast and there was over 700 people in attendance which was wonderful to see. At the Workers Sports renovations inside the Club are almost complete and the new Grange Buffet is now open plus the new extended Sports Café is also opened. The outside renovations will be on-going throughout 2016.

The revolving restaurant on level 5 was re-opened in mid-December and named ‘Cucina Locale’. It was fully refurbished just in time for the Christmas season for your enjoyment. At the Workers Hubertus Country Club, a new outdoor gaming room has been completed and other areas are being updated. The restaurant has new caterers and has been named Westview Restaurant. I would like to wish our Sporting Bodies the best of luck in their 2016 season. A speedy recovery to any member and their family that are not feeling well or have lost loved ones. May the New Year be happy and healthy for everyone. Please find the financial as supplied at the time of writing this report:-

Level 5 revolving restaurant has reopened with a new name and Jessy Singh as the Head Chef. The freshly uplifting renovated Cucina Locale with its spectacular 360 degree views will be an experience that you will want to share with your friends. Cucina Locale has a relaxed and warm atmosphere in conjunction with Australia’s top fresh produce for the best dining experience. Its Head Chef and staff want to compete with Sydney’s top restaurants and make Cucina Locale the very best in the west. Jessy Singh has an abundance of experience around food, so much so that his preparation of meals will appease the eye and the appetite. He started his cooking career in ‘Sevardi Cucina Italiana’ at Beecroft and followed on working in some of the top restaurants that made it into the Good Food Guide like ‘Lunico, Four Seasons Hotel and Biviano’s. Jessie went to Adelaide to work alongside other experienced Chef’s to advance his experience in cooking styles. Being a multi-cultural society Jessie doesn’t want to focus on one style of cuisine, he wants to blend them together for the customers to experience and entice their palate. In what little down time Jessie has, he loves dining out at other restaurants so he can keep up with the trends to always deliver the finest to his customers.

Workers Soccer Football Club 2015 was a good year at BWSFC. The aim was to cater for the social and competitive needs of our members, provide opportunities for all participants to develop to their full potential, be aware of the diversity of our community and play the game with spirit in a fair and sporting way. But most of all it was about having fun in an environment that was safe and supportive. Dear Members, 2015 was a very good year, with all of our three teams winning the pennants. Grade 2 went on to play in the zone playoffs, but unfortunately was knocked out. Well done to all the pennant players. We start again in March 2016 good luck everyone. We have just finalised the Minor Pairs, and the winners were C Harloff and R Eishauer, runners-up J Rathborne and L Chant. The Minor singles final will be played between L Collison and K Right. On Friday 13th November we had a combined Christmas party with the Men’s Bowling Club unfortunately it was a shocking night with pouring rain so we could not have our game of fun bowls, but the men put on supper of chicken and salad and it was very nice. They also had a raffle, thank you to our men well done. All the men and women that turned up had a good night. Our break-up day was Wednesday 9th December and we come back 6th January 2016

The 2015 Fishing Competition has closed & the 2016 comp has begun. Trophies were awarded at our Presentation Night at Workers Sports BBQ area in November. Being a family oriented club the venue is perfect, with a closed in playground for the kids & stage for the presentations. In December our Club was very proud to be a part of the Workers Kids Xmas Party, it was a great day & shows what lengths the Workers Club will go to give back to the Community. This year’s events included our AGM in February, Bunning’s Sausage sizzle fund raisers in March & October, fishing trips on the 2nd Sunday weekend of each month, long weekend camping trips, plus Xmas in July. With summer in full bloom the warm currents from the north have reached the Sydney fishing grounds & brought with it the bigger sports fish. Reports of big Kingies, Snapper & Jewfish are common. Hopefully the weather will favour our adventures & new club record catches will be weighed in. Renewal of Membership has also begun & New Members are more than welcome. Meetings are at the Blacktown Workers Club on the 3rd Monday of every month at 7.30pm. Location will be at the Welcome Desk. So pack your boat & your kids & join our adventures as we explore that big backyard we call Australia!

We started with a Eurofest at Frenchs Forest with many different cultures showing their different dances. Our Oktoberfest Festivities started 1st October at Bondi Leagues Club which was a great start to a very busy month. The long weekend of course we performed at our home club. Workers Hubertus Country Club for the Oktoberfest. Our performances were well received by the audience. In October we also performed at Penrith Golf Club, Catholic Club at Lidcombe, Ingleburn Bowling Club, Maroubra Beach, The Oaks Pub and again to finish it all off at Bondi Leagues Club. At all the events we had a great time and the audience loved our performances and for a lot of the places we have all ready been booked for next year. With so much work (done by all the dancers and parents ), we will now have some down time and hoping to have a get together party early in the new year before we start to rehearse again. Due to our coaches & players performances we again find ourselves in the position of having a number of players & coaches who have achieved representative honours in all levels of our sport. Our junior players & one of our coaches have excelled at the Hills Association Level & will also represent NSW in the U/16's National Competition in January 2016. On a Senior Level we have players representing our club at the ABL with the Sydney Blue Sox. Also we had players who represented NSW at the U/25's tournament in Lismore in September.
