PRESIDENT’S REPORT Hello Members, This is my last Journal Report for 2016 and I hope the year has been kind to you. A lot has happened at our 3 Clubs as we continue to move forward. We hosted the Ace Awards in our Diamond Showroom and Liz Star booked some amazing entertainment for your enjoyment. There were many promotions where our members had the opportunity to win cars, cash and wonderful prizes. We also continued to give away tickets to Qudos Arena and the Wanderers Corporate Box. We are so proud of our members who are the backbone of our Club. At the time of going to print (31/8/16) we have 51,981 members which include 5581 Quarter Century Members, 398 of these were new members added in 2016 and we have a total 447 VIP Members. We will be hosting our Annual Foundation, Old Tin Shed and VIP Members lunch early December where these members have a chance to catch up and reminisce. Unfortunately, we are losing some of our early “tin shedders” but our VIP list is increasing. I always boast about our members and thank them for their support and patronage to the club. Congratulations to our lucky Keno winner who won $1.7 million at our Club recently. This winner was a Club member and i have been told it was their first time playing Keno. Well done. We are receiving fabulous comments regarding our Outdoor Area at the Sports Club and this will be the place to be with the warmer weather approaching. It is very family friendly and the kids will have fun in the play area and enjoying the gelato and treats. Congratulations to all our Sporting Bodies that have done so well and once again made us all so proud of their achievements. Thank you to all the committee members as you are the ones who keep them going. I attended the Ladies Outdoor Bowls AGM and witnessed the unanimous vote to make Elaine Cullen a Life Member of Ladies Outdoor Bowls. This was a well-deserved and honourable achievement for a wonderful lady who has dedicated many years into helping in many areas. We all congratulate Elaine. You are probably aware through the media that our Rugby League Club has been approached by Manly Sea Eagles to have a team in the NSW Cup. The Sea Eagles also would like Workers to be a feeder Club for them. Workers Rugby League already have Snr Teams in the Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield which they have had for the past four years. Initially they funded their own Snr teams and did a very good job raising their own funds to support these. They have a very good committee with Keith as their leader and are very passionate about their sport.
The Club has a number of big projects covering the next 5 years with our Sporting Precinct of Excellence and our Over 55’s Resort and Aged Care Facility, and we had to think with our heads and not our hearts with this one and therefore did not approve this request. The Rugby League is incorporated and have therefore decided to still go ahead with the agreement with Manly Sea Eagles. As a Board we do try to support where possible so have agreed to allow them to use “Workers” and to have use of the fields at the H.E. Sporting Complex. We wish them every success with their venture. Things are moving forward with our Sporting Precinct of Excellence and Over 55’s Resort Complex with our first focus group ideas of requirements taking place. It is a slow process but I will endeavour to keep you informed. Our next journal will be out in the New Year so I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas and a Safe, Happy and Healthy New Year. On behalf of the Board of Directors I offer our condolences to anyone who has lost a loved one or friends. When you are a member of a Club you should never be lonely. Come to the Club to socialise, have a meal, enjoy the entertainment or just relax with friends. There is something for everyone. If I am in the Club and you wish to talk to me, please do, as I enjoy taking to you. Before closing I would like to thank my Board Colleagues (and their partners), Management, Staff and Members as it takes all of us as a team to make our Club work. Until next time, Keep Smiling and be kind to each other
Kay Kelly President
(2015 tin shed members lunch)
We have always and will continue to support the Jnr teams as this has always been the Clubs policy and are proud to have this facility available for members’ children to utilise. Last year we approved funds towards the Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield expenses. The Board was approached by Rugby League to see if we were interested in supporting their venture with Manly Sea Eagles. This was a very difficult decision for the Board to make as yes we could see some positives but we are not a Leagues Club and Rugby League is only 1 of our 28 Sporting Bodies, and we also have 52,000 members to consider what benefit it would be. They needed to raise $500,000 per year for at least the next four years to support these Snr teams. They asked the Board to approve an additional $200,000 per year. This together with what they already received would a commitment of be over $1 million in 4 years. As a Board, this could not be justified.

GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT Hello Members; It is hard to believe that Christmas is nearly upon us and we are coming to the end of another great year for the BWC Group. The feedback from the completed outdoor area at Workers Sports has been really positive. The perfect location for your next outing so please come down and enjoy the facilities on offer. With a new kids play area, a great selection of craft beers, wines and ciders, affordably priced meals for the family and let’s not forget the 150” LED TV screen to watch all the great sports action. Workers Sports now boast a state of the art double sided LED noticeboard on Reservoir Rd that will allow us to display all upcoming events. Another great feature of the Club renovations. Members have requested action be taken to ensure that the carpark is for patrons who utilize the Club’s facilities. A DA was submitted to Blacktown Council to introduce a paid ticketing system and was approved in July. Work will soon begin on the installation of the boom gate entry and exit areas at both Colo Lane and Campbell Street. The entry into the Club from Colo Lane will see the boom gates set back into the carpark to ensure that there is no bank up of traffic onto Colo Lane. A few car parking spots will be removed to allow for the double entry area but we will endeavor to make those up on the other levels. Work is expected to be completed over the next few months followed by a 3-month trial period. Staff will be able to assist during this time and extensive signage will placed both in the carpark and the Club advising patrons of the new system. Whilst work is undertaken we expect disruptions to be minimal and we apologise for any inconvenience. The first 3 hours are free. Paid parking conditions will apply Monday to Friday from 9am – 6pm, weekends will only apply during major events. Please note that any purchase made in the Club will validate your parking ticket and no costs will be incurred. The basement level will be made available to individuals or businesses to lease on a monthly basis. Again the leased area will only apply Monday to Friday and the area will be made available at night and on weekends. Signs advising how to apply for a leased spot will be placed in the carpark soon. I am happy to advise that the NSW Department of Planning issued our site compatibility certificate allowing us to proceed with a Development Application for our Over 55’s resort living and aged care at the Sports Club. We continue to work with Blacktown Council on a positive outcome. Members will be advised with presentations planned in the near future of our progress. The design, concept and the DA process for the proposed sports facilities and centre of excellence on our land adjacent to Walter’s Rd is well underway. Exciting times are ahead as the Board and Management continue to look at ways to diversify the Clubs’ business model. The Club has taken over the catering operation at Workers Hubertus. Welcome Hub Café, please pop in and see our great new menu with affordable meals for all the family and our new kids’ area that has great games to play. A great place to take the family. Thanks to the previous caterers (Brittania Catering) for their efforts. My thanks to my great management team and staff for their outstanding efforts throughout the year. Also thanks to my PA Tina for her tireless work throughout the year Again I remind you of our Responsible Service of alcohol policy under the NSW Liquor Act 2007 and the various signs throughout all of our clubs indicating the Code of Practice for the supply and service of alcohol. This is the law and our staff are all trained and are following the requirements of legislation when enforcing these rules. May I wish all members a Merry Xmas and a safe New Year. To those members who lost loved ones my condolences.

JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE
For Blacktown Workers JRLC, the past 3 months have perhaps been the most exciting in our rich history. As most of you will be aware we have procured the NSW Cup squad of the Manly Sea Eagles. Manly are the most successful Rugby League Club of the modern era and to have our own brand linked directly to their success will place Workers at the very pinnacle of grassroots Rugby League. The success of our senior programs are a wonderful boost for our junior programs and the pathway offered to our players is absolutely second to none.
