he timing was perfect for Beryl Robertson to celebrate her 80th birthday at the Dolphins on 17th June, with the Village Motors Dolphins having a bye that weekend. “If the Dolphins were playing, there is no way we would be having a party. Mum wouldn’t miss a game, even for her own 80th,” her son Robert said. Beryl is a long time supporter of the Dolphins, even before her brother Col Weir played in the 1965 Premiership Winning

side. “Mum has always been involved as a supporter and for many years now has been helping out selling raffle tickets at the Club,” Robert said. Beryl had guests travel from Gatton, Gympie and Hatton Vale to celebrate her special day which was held in Dolphins HQ. Beryl said the Dolphins was the obvious choice for her party but insisted that if the Dolphins were playing, she would have been celebrating by watching the game.

’97 Team

BACK TOGETHER The 1997 Queensland Cup winning team recently celebrated their 20 year reunion at Dolphin Stadium, watching the Village Motors Dolphins defeat Easts Tigers 22-6 in Round 13 of the Intrust Super Cup. The 1997 Champions, coached by John Boxsell and Captained by Peter Robinson, defeated Easts in the Grand Final that year 18-16. The victory came after Anthony Singleton kicked a conversion after the fulltime siren, following a match saving try by James Hinchey. According to some historians, it was current Village Motors Dolphins Coach Adam Mogg’s try saving tackle on current Easts Coach Scott Sipple with 10-15 to go which won the Dolphins the game.
