This special evening will take place on Friday, September 9 from 6.30pm. This time around though, there are few changes taking place with how the night will run. To start off with, the buffet will be held in Dolphins HQ. This restaurant is perfect for keeping our buffet guests close to all the action and entertainment taking place throughout the rest of the club, however it is private enough to maintain an intimate atmosphere over a special meal. When you arrive on the evening, you will be welcomed into the restaurant with a select beer, wine or soft drink of your choice, which comes as part of your ticket price. Enjoy the hospitality of our staff as they help you find your seat. Once you’ve found your place, you can then pick up a plate and start gathering all of your favourite seafood. Select what you like from a wide range of local seafood delicacies, including delicious oysters and prawns, then balance it all out with some of our tender roasts and salads. ur U11-U19 players wrapped up the 2017 season with their Trophy Presentation on Sunday 15th October at Dolphin Stadium. This year, the Dolphins nominated 52 teams in to the Greater Brisbane Junior Rugby League competition, which was an all-time high for our Club. WHEN DID YOU START COMING TO DOLPHINS HEALTH PRECINCT? “I started swimming at the Dolphins Aquatic Centre when it opened ten years ago. I have always loved the water since learning to swim in Malta aged ten. I have swam regularly all my life and when we moved to Australia in 2005 I became a swimming teacher at
YOU HAVE HAD AN INJURY TO YOUR BACK? “Thirty years ago I injured myself lifting something heavy which caused two bulging discs L4 and L5. Two years ago I managed to rupture these two discs. I had major back surgery very quickly after that resulting in titanium screws, rods and baskets to replace my discs from L4 to L1. Afterwards I realised I faced a very long and hard road to recovery. With a lot of physio and persistence with my rehab I was back in the pool about three months post operative and slowly over the last two years swimming and then cycling have slowly rehabilitated me to a stage where I was forgetting my back on some days! SO YOU ARE NOW A MEMBER OF THE GYM, HOW DOES THAT FEEL? “Great, the long term goal was always to go in the gym as I needed to do some weight bearing exercise at my age but I was so scared, not knowing what I could and couldn't do. I asked myself, what weights could I lift safely? Eventually I realised that I just had to face my fears and get in there and try. I don't think you should allow fear and circumstance stop you from achieving a healthy lifestyle so I bit the bullet and joined Dolphins Health Precinct five months ago. I think the facilities are brilliant and absolutely love the atmosphere and the camaraderie when queuing up together for classes. My Personal Trainer, Teneka Hyndman has become my guide and friend during some nervous moments as I negotiated my way around all the equipment. The fear has gone now and I enjoy tapping my card on the entry gate.”

Greetings. It’s been a bit of a quiet month for the Old Boys, but I’m sure in the next few month we will be very busy cooking up the snags for the Junior rewards evenings. The first night has been postponed due to the weather but has been rescheduled. If your little junior is chasing a pair of socks for this season head down to Leading Edge Sports and receive a new pair compliments of The Redcliffe Old Boys (while stocks last). Our May social has been run and won at the Redcliffe Tennis Centre. Thanks to all involved for a great night. Our next social is a bus trip to Kilcoy races on the 17th June so I encourage our members to book a seat early as the bus is filling fast. It great to see the Dolphins playing so well and it’s great to see so many of our members come out to support the Boys.

ANNE CELEBRATES TWENTY YEARS
A
nne Swain started her career with the Dolphins twenty years ago as a glassy, and since then has worked in most areas throughout the Club. “I was interviewed by Tracy Boxsell who put me on straight away. I started as a glassy, moved on to work behind the bar, then the pokies and for the last eight years I’ve worked on reception,” Anne recalls. Anne said the highlight for her has been working with great people and getting to know the customers. “I’ve done so many different things at the Dolphins. My managers were always great, giving me the flexibility I needed when the children were young and my husband travelled a lot for work,” Anne said she is now semiretired, working two days a week on reception and enjoying time with her grandchildren.
