FREE & LIVE IN THE RUSSELL MORRIS

FRIDAY 6TH OCTOBER

COME AND SEE THE REAL THING. RUSSELL MORRIS LIVE IN THE LEGENDS LOUNGE FRIDAY 6TH OCTOBER

T

he Club is hosting a couple of big acts in October, completely free for our members and guests. Icon of Australian music, Russell Morris, will take to the stage in the Legends Lounge on Friday 6th October. Russell shot to fame in the 60s with “Somebody’s Image” and a string of hits followed, including “Hush” and the Bob Dylan classic “Baby Blue”. In 1969, Russell and producer Molly Meldrum released the number one hit “The Real Thing”. In 2012, Russell released a new album, “Sharkmouth”, which reached the number one position on the iTunes Blues Charts. In 2013, Russell won the ARIA Award for Best Blues n Roots album. Since then, he has released two other award winning albums, including Van Diemen’s Land in 2014 and

Red Dirt-Red Heart in 2015. “I spent over a year researching these great Australian stories. To me these albums are about looking back at the characters that deserve to be remembered,” Morris said. CEO Tony Murphy said the Club has been providing free entertainment on the Peninsula for over twenty years. “Our Legends Lounge is a place for everyone, from our line dancers who enjoy our day time entertainment to our pop and rock fans on Friday and Saturday nights. We cater for all different tastes,” he said. Later in October Mental as Anything will take to the stage. “We’ve had the Mentals at the Dolphins a couple of times and they are always very popular. We’ll have them at the Club on the 21st of October, absolutely free.”

This special evening will take place on Friday, September 9 from 6.30pm. This time around though, there are few changes taking place with how the night will run. To start off with, the buffet will be held in Dolphins HQ. This restaurant is perfect for keeping our buffet guests close to all the action and entertainment taking place throughout the rest of the club, however it is private enough to maintain an intimate atmosphere over a special meal. When you arrive on the evening, you will be welcomed into the restaurant with a select beer, wine or soft drink of your choice, which comes as part of your ticket price. Enjoy the hospitality of our staff as they help you find your seat. Once you’ve found your place, you can then pick up a plate and start gathering all of your special element of the night to come. strong squad earlier in the year, putting in place the foundations for the football club year. Congratulations to Grant Cleal on winning the Club Championship. It is a real feather in his cap. This year our Junior club had a lot of success, and special congratulations goes to our Junior teams who made it to their Grand Final and especially to our U13 and U16 teams who are now both Premiership winning teams.

Before this paper goes to print, we will host our 2017 Dolphins Development Dinner. Our Development program is emerging as an incredibly strong and promising initiative. We are already reaping the rewards of investing in this program, seeing our players who have joined as Juniors and played through the grades progress into our Senior competitions, and in Tyson Gamble’s case, the NRL. Of note is our BRL captain Mitch Wilson, who started playing for the Dolphins as a five year old and recently played his 12th grand final in the Dolphins jersey. A very tangible sign of success is Dolphin Stadium, and we will shortly commence Stage 2. REAL PASSION FOR JUNIOR DOLPHINS R

ealway Property Consultants have come on board again as the Major Junior Sponsor for 2018-2020. Principal Andrew Reibelt said that he has a lot to thank the Dolphins for, and loves giving back and supporting the juniors. “I remember being a kid in Roma, walking kilometres looking for sponsors so we could buy a $50 jersey. I made a promise to myself that if I was ever in the position to support kids in sport as a sponsor, I would do it,” he said. Andrew came to the Dolphins as a young player, quickly falling love with the area. “Being at the Dolphins was a bit like being in Roma, it still had a country town feel about it,” he recalls. Andrew said the Club took him under its wing, giving him employment in the Leagues Club while he found his feet.

Andrew played a couple of seasons with the Dolphins before injury forced him to reassess. “I had to make a decision about whether I kept playing, or put some focus on building a life for myself outside of football.” Andrew said that the values instilled in him as a Dolphin have carried over into his professional life. “Mateship, persistence, hard work are all values at the core of being a Dolphin and I can honestly say those are the values that have driven me professionally too.” As well as being the Major Junior Sponsor, Realway Property is also a Dolphins Development Sponsor. “It’s so important that players focus on life after football and that is something the Dolphins Development Program encourages which is part of the reason I like to put my support behind that program as well. I also love the fact that the Dolphins

actively support the development of kids in regional areas,” he said. General Manager of Football, Grant Cleal, said that having Realway on board again is a huge boost for the Juniors. “We have the biggest Junior base in the State, with around 800 kids registering to play with the Dolphins each year. Having a successful businessman like Andrew and his Realway team behind us for another term is the best outcome we could hope for when it comes to our Junior sponsorship. The Realway Property Consultants logo will grace the jersey of all our Juniors, our Junior polo shirts, hats and senior jersey. You don’t have to look too hard to see how much we value the support of both our Major Sponsors and indeed all our sponsors,” he said.

Andrew Reibelt and the team at RealWay Property Consultants are Proud Sponsors of the Senior Redcliffe Dolphins and Major Sponsors of the Junior Redcliffe Dolphins. CONSIDERING SELLING A PROPERTY? REDCLIFFE HOSPITAL CARPARK FIX Multi-Storey Car Park for Redcliffe Hospital I recently joined Health Minster Cameron Dick to announce the Palaszczuk Government will build a new multi-storey carpark at Redcliffe Hospital.

The Government’s preferred approach for multi-storey car parks is that the Government finance and build to ensure we can keep parking fees down and provide fair and reasonable concessions.

Parking has been an issue for some time and the only way to expand parking availability at the site is to build Construction is due to commence mid 2018, on up. completion a maximum charge of $15 per day will be in effect with concessions available.

EVERY SUNDAY IN OCTOBER GIVEAWAYS & MORE

(OR DID YOU?) • •

The first brewers of beer were probably the Sumerians around 10,000BC. In 1814 London suffered the Great Beer Flood. At least eight people drowned when about 388,000 gallons of beer flooded the streets around Tottenham Court Road after vats in a brewery ruptured. A judge and jury ruled the beer flood was an Act of God. The first professional brewers were all women. The oldest written recipes ever discovered were for beer. The agriculture revolution was started because people needed more ways to make beer. This led to inventions such as the plow, wheel and irrigation systems. Cenosillicaphobia is the fear of an empty beer glass (apparently). Beer was not considered an alcoholic beverage in Russia until 2013.

Melbourne Cup

Q & A WITH CATHERINE AND RAELENE

LONG LUNC H IN DOLPHINS HQ $90 MEMBERS $ 10 0 N O N M E M B E R S

What excites you the most about Melbourne Cup? CATHERINE: The fashion, getting dressed up for the day and seeing what everyone else wears. RAELENE: Fashion on the field is one of the most exciting things. The glamourous outfits and stylish make up designs. Of course the champagne is a highlight as well.

How do you pick a winner on the day? CATHERINE: I follow my instincts, if I see a name and feel a certain connection to it, that is the horse I will be backing. RAELENE: If she runs, I’ll be betting on Winx

What’s your advice for our club members hoping to make the most of their Melbourne Cup Day? CATHERINE: Get in early to place your bets. The TAB in Sports Bar opens at 8:30am and it gets extremely busy as the race approaches. RAELENE: Attend one of the functions. There’s high fashion, yummy food and bubbles. If you can’t make it down to Melbourne, the functions are the next best thing.
