What are the Importance of Brocade Banarasi Silk What is a Saree? A saree/sari is the traditional garment for women. Saree/sari includes a long single piece of cloth, about 5 to 6 meters long and 1 meter wide, gently wrapped around a woman’s body, the loose end thrown over the shoulder called pallu. Used with a choli, or a short blouse, the fabric itself can be very detailed. In the earliest Indian tradition, the navel of the Supreme Being is considered the source of life and creativity, from which the belly must be left bare by the traditional sarees. The oldest draped Indian clothes and men wear the dhoti. They say that after the fourteenth century, the dhoti was worn by men and women.

Brocades of Banaras 1.) The weaving of brocades, especially with gold and silver, has been a secular tradition in India. 2.)There are two major classes of brocade. Brocades of pure silk sarees or banarasi silk sarees and mixtures of cotton and zari skewers with gold and silver threads. 3.)Banaras is one of the rich craft centers in India weaving, famous for Brocade sarees in UP. 4.)As in the History of India, Banaras is known since the declared period of Ramayana and Mahabharat Banarasi Sharee and Fabrics as known by Hiranya Vastra.


5.)In ancient times, Banaras was famous for weaving traditional sarees and dress materials but slowly changed into silk weaving, during the Mughal period, weaving brocades with complex patterns using gold and silver threads. Money was the specialty of Banaras. 6.)Most brocade usually has strong Mughal influences in the design, such as intricate floral and foliate motifs.
