Gold-N-Oaks Holstein Farm started on a rented farm in 1972 and moved to its present site south of Barneveld, WI in 1977. Gold-N-Oaks is a true family farm owned and operated by John and Judy Swenson and their sons John D. and Jared. John D.’s family consists of wife Melissa and their four children, Kaylee, Syler, Haedyn, and Hudson. Gold-N-Oaks has grown over the years and now consists of 1200 acres and 400 registered Holstein cows plus youngstock. The cows are housed in a free-stall barn and newer compost barn. The first registered Holsteins at Gold-N-Oaks were purchased from neighbors Ray & Ted Thompson’s, Jenniton Holsteins. A purchase of two bred heifers at an Ames-Way dispersal in southern Wisconsin in the late 70's eventually proved to be especially noteworthy. One of these heifers, sired by Lime-Hollow Admiral DeKol, is the 5th dam of Gold-N-Oaks Duster Cindy. Duster Cindy was the first AI contract cow at Gold-N-Oaks. The mating of Duster Cindy to Alzi Juror Ford by Susie Martin of ABS resulted in a bull calf with a hernia that did not qualify for progeny testing. The mating also resulted in two heifer calves, however, and one of those was Gold-N-Oak J-F Go-Girl-ET EX-90. Go-Girl was the cow that brought people from around the world to Gold-N-Oaks. Go-Girl was flushed extensively for AI and embryo contracts and has many contracted female descendants presently in the herd . Duster Cindy is also the 4th dam of Gold-N-Oaks S Marbella-ET VG-89, 2y. Marbella was an impressive early Shottle daughter and was quickly contracted for several bulls and embryos after she was fresh. But when her maternal grandsire, Morty, fell out of favor it appeared that the contracts were finished. About that time genomic testing came on the scene. Devan Funk of Accelerated Genetics offered to genomic test Marbella and the results were outstanding. Marbella’s exceptional genomic proof caught the attention of more buyers and new contracts came in waves. Marbella has since been flushed extensively and now has many young offspring with extremely high genomic evaluations. Her first three daughters by Ramos, the result of a heifer flush, are all outstanding young cows and are all heavily contracted. As you look through the Gold-N-Oaks offerings in this catalog, you will find pedigrees full of outstanding individuals, interesting sire stacks, and consistently high genomics. Females over +3.5 on type, +60 pounds of protein, and +6.5 on productive life will all be offered along with a great selection of First Choice Females with the realistic potential to be breed leaders. This is a great opportunity to buy the best!
