JOAN F. FEAGLES
Joan F. Feagles, age 83, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021, at her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born on May 28, 1938 in Orlando, Florida, the daughter of the late John H. and Mary G. (Anderson) Free. Joan was a 1956 graduate of Bethlehem Central School in Delmar, NY and furthered her education at SUNY Cortland, earning her degree in education.
She was united in marriage to Robert Feagles on August 4, 1962 in Warwick, NY.
Robert and Joan moved their family and farm to Kennedy Road, St. Johnsville, in 1972. Although she did not come from a farm background, when she married her dairy farmer husband 59 years ago, Joan took on a love for the farm, and all that comes with it, including the animals, and the landscaping and gardening projects. While raising her family and working on the farm, Joan was also a Kindergarten teacher in the St. Johnsville Central School District until 1994, where she would encourage agricultural education, especially dairy promotion, into the curriculum and school activities.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Robert (Bob) Feagles, Sr.; two daughters, Gail Good of Altoona, PA,, and Judy Littrell of St. Johnsville; two sons; Robert (Bob) Feagles, Jr., and David Feagles (Jennifer) of St. Johnsville; and her beloved grandchildren, Andrew (Jamie), Clara and Vincent Good, Aryn, Jacob, Jonathan, Adam and Owen Feagles, and Laura, Benjamin and Carolyn Littrell.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, and sisters-inlaws Elizabeth Brown and Ruth Durland.
Joan was a 4-H leader for many years, she served on the Montgomery County 4-H Program Committee, Cornell Cooperative Extension Board of Directors, and served over 30 years on the Montgomery County Dairy Promotion Committee. Joan was a Director of the Montgomery County Agricultural Society (Fonda Fair) from 1995 to 2021. She also served on the NYS Dairy of Distinction Board.
Joan has always been known for her love of the farm, the cows, flowers, gardening and keeping an attractive farmstead. Her greatest joys were vacationing in Naples, FL, family gatherings, the Fonda Fair and being a part of her grandchildren’s lives and their activities, especially attending cow shows with her children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Joan Feagles Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o NBT Bank at 16 West Main St. St. Johnsville, or any NBT Branch.
DONALD P. MCNEIL
Donald P. McNeil, 69, of Ellenburg Center passed away, December 18, 2021.
He was born in Plattsburgh on August 4, 1952, son of Glenn and Evelyn (Frennier) McNeil. Don graduated from the Ellenburg Central School and later
from Clinton Community College where he received his degree in Accounting.
Don married Sherry Magoon on August 21, 1982. They worked side by side operating Don-Sher Farm, the family business, where they happily welcomed their three children and three grandchildren.
Don was a member of the Ayrshire Breeders Association, the NY Holstein Association, and served on the Resolutions Committee for Agri-Mark for many years.
Everyone who had the pleasure to know Don, knew how much he loved his family and his cows. He loved to go to sales, catch up with lifelong friends that shared his love of the Ayrshire and Holstein breeds, comparing notes on all the good cows and, more often than not, purchasing one, even though his loving wife said “No”.
Over the last 40 years, “fair week” was always a huge part of his life. The entire family worked hard all year long to be able to go on their “vacation” and show off their animals. He enjoyed seeing old friends and scoping out the competition. As the years went by, Papa and Mimi always loved to be ringside to watch their kids and grandkids show and especially to watch their passion grow.
Don loved to play cards, enjoyed a hot roll out of the oven, watching westerns and watching any sporting event, but what he enjoyed most was to watch his daughters’ playing basketball with their teams over the years.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 39 years, Sherry (Magoon) McNeil; his children, Glenn E. McNeil, Jenna (Mike) Legault, and Danielle McNeil (Eric Brior); grandchildren, Logan Russel, Grayson Legault and Alli Brior; siblings, Richard “Porky” (Helen) McNeil, Dave (Linda) McNeil, Jim (Diana) McNeil, Pat (Joann) McNeil, and Jeff (Peggy) McNeil; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was predeceased by his parents.
From all of us, we won’t say “Whatever”, but “Talk to you later!”
