HISTORY OF KHUKURI The oldest known kukri appear to be one in the arsenal museum in Kathmandu, which belongs to Raja Draby Shah, King of Gorkha in 1627.There is one tenable story the Alexander’s horsemen soldiers carried the ‘Machaira’ the cavalry sword of the ancient Macedonians, in the fourth century B.C. on his invasion of north-west India. The classic Greek sword or Kopis.Others suggest that it originated from the knife frist used by the Mall as who came to power in Nepal in the 13th centuary.Some khukuris to technique of sword making founded in Japan.The fact that it is “KHUKURI” is the strict translation of the Nepali word. It has a strong relationship with the Gurkha soldiers and Nepalese History.

Khukuri is not just a knife but it is a symbol of Gurkha soldier. The khukuri has great religious importance and is worshipped by every Nepalese during Dashian.

The shape and every parts of the khukuri have various meaning.

KHUKURI The curved is said to look like a crescent moon, a symbol of Nepal. The notch or kaura in the blade near the hilt of the khukuri is said to be trident of the Hindu god shiva, the god of destroyer and war. It has many other meanings such as the sun and the moon, the sexual apparatus of the Hindu gods and goddesses, a cow tract between the cows is sacred to the Hindus, So the religious meaning that have been worked into the knife make it magic. The Gurkhas and the Khukuri are inseparable I reputation.
