Owners of Lakeville-based Scruples share ups and downs of owning family business by Jessica Harper DAKOTA COUNTY TRIBUNE

For the Liguori family, hair is what ties them together. As children, Frank Liguori, Tracy Liguori Lubeley and Mia Liguori McHugh, tri-presidents of Scruples, a salon hair care product supplier in Lakeville, traveled the country with their parents to attend hair shows and view cutting-edge ’dos. Their father, Frank Liguori Sr., was vice president of a major hair-care-product company at the time and had celebrity status at each event. “I remember being so hungry and waiting in line for food for two hours because everyone wanted to shake his hand, Liguori McHugh said with a smile. In 1983, Liguori Sr. left his job to found Scruples with his business partner, Jack Storey.

Over the years, Scruples became a family business. Liguori was the first to join his father in the venture two years after it opened. “I never imagined I would be in the beauty industry, he said. Liguori had earned a bachelor’s de-

and everyone had a great attitude, Liguori said. After the show, he, his father and others from the show went to a dance hall where they had a barbecue and learned the two-step. “It was a lot of fun, Liguori said. Sisters Liguori Lubeley and Liguori McHugh joined the company in 1986 and Scruples is a hair-care-product supplier for 1989, respectively. All three siblings besalons.
