Malt-O-Meal opens Lakeville location

Lakeville’s business community has a new member. Northfield-based Malt-O-Meal recently opened its corporate office in the former Hearth and Home space at 20802 Kensington Blvd. in the Fairfield Industrial Park, which was on the market for more than a year. “We’re delighted they chose our community to move their employees to,� Mayor Holly Dahl said. “Though there doesn’t appear to be any new jobs, we are hopeful the business will expand and that there will be new employment opportunities for surrounding communities and our community.� The company moved 120 administrative and technological research employees from its Northfield and Minneapolis offices to the Lakeville location. The move allowed the company to segregate manufacturing from administration, Malt-O-Meal spokesperson Linda Fisher said. Fisher said the company chose Lakeville for its proximity to Interstate 35 and the fact that it is midway between Minneapolis and Northfield. The move also provides some opportunities for the city of Lakeville, said Dave Olson, the city’s economic development director. “(The relocated employees) will be part of the daytime population to patronize the

Malt-O-Meal’s history The first hot wheat cereal products were created in 1919 by John S. Campbell. In 1927, the company moved to the Ames Mill in Northfield where Malt-O-Meal continues to produce its products. The corporate and sales offices were moved to Minneapolis in 1936. In 1953, the company adopted the name Malt-OMeal.
