Farmington Baptist Bible Church is joining forces with the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind to help make the holiday special for children across the world. Operation Christmas Child’s goal this year is to collect shoeboxes full of gifts to send to 11 million children for the Christmas season. “It’s to let kids know that they’re loved, that Jesus loves them, organizer Sara Bakken said. Farmington residents are encouraged to collect gifts that would fit in a shoebox, such as school supplies, toys and hygiene products. Examples include crayons, markers, washcloths, soap, small toys, small stuffed animals, baseball hats, sunglasses, flip-flops, combs and brushes, deflat-

PUBLIC NOTICE The Dakota County Tribune is an official newspaper of the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District.

From the outside, the newly expanded, cityowned Steeple Center seems like just another building. But the Rosemount Area Arts Council wants to make sure what happens inside the structure is extraordinary. The local nonprofit is recruiting teachers to fill course offerings that would be housed throughout the arts and activity center starting in February 2016. Megan Wright, RAAC education chairwoman, is in charge of managing the group’s course schedule, which currently includes classes by teachers experienced in photography, basketweaving and painting. Wright wants to expand those offerings deeper into the visual arts and in areas that would complement the current course offerings of

She says the instructors will determine their course schedules, fees and class sizes. RAAC will provide promotion of the classes and access to the classrooms. The 7-year-old RAAC has been focused on planning music, theater and community events, such as the annual Bluegrass Festival, Christmas at the Steeple Center and Star Wars Extravaganza. The theme for the Rosemount Area Arts Council’s “Coming Home for Christmas show Dec. 5 has a dual meaning. While the Christmas variety performance will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, it also marks the first event at the cityowned Steeple Center’s banquet hall since it was closed for construction more than a year ago. With the addition to the Steeple Center nearly com-

plete, RAAC members say they are happy to be back in the main venue space that has hosted the fourth annual Christmas event, which skipped last year due to the construction. “Christmas at the Steeple Center will be a 1940sera themed show with music and dancing dedicated to military veterans. There will be a matinee at 2 p.m. and evening show at 7 p.m., which will be proceeded by the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in front of the Steeple Center. Tickets are on sale for $15 at RAAC’s website,

rosemountarts.com; by mail to RAAC, P.O. Box 409, Rosemount, MN 55068; or at the door the day of the event. RAAC members receive a discount. Preferred seating is available by Nov. 25. World War II veterans will receive two complimentary tickets to either show. For more information, call 952-2558545 or email rosemountarts@gmail.com.
