Rosemount police determined that there was no credible threat to safety at Rosemount High School after comments made in reference to the school on social media were discovered on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Police were made aware of the threats that after-

noon and by later that night determined that the threats were not credible. Principal John Wollersheim talked to students and staff via intercom Thursday morning saying: “I know that safety is on all of our minds, based on the events of recent days. Last evening there were rumors of threats against the school, some posted on social media.

I want you to know, that whenever we receive a threat, we work immediately in partnership with the Rosemount police to investigate. Late last night, we determined there was no credible threat to our school. He said if there was ever a credible threat, it would be communicated with staff, students and parents.

Wollersheim encouraged students and staff to report any information about threats related to the school to an administrator or using the online resource Rosemount Confidential. “Please know, that your safety here at school is our number one priority, he said. “There is nothing more important, than the safety of all of you. If you

need support, please talk to a trusted adult here at school, so we can assist you. He encouraged parents to talk to their children about how to report threatening information and for them to support their children if they need to talk to an adult at school. See THREAT, 5A

Due to the magnitude of the fire, numerous neighboring fire departments assisted in extinguishing the fire. Rosemount police said the three buildings on the site were not occupied at the time of the fire. The Rosemount fire marshal is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire. Rosemount police said the structure is unstable and that it is illegal to be on a property that one does not have permission to be present on.

The new 3-D printer at Farmington Library can make items like a movable fish, a Farmington Tigers button in the shape of a paw print and a T-Rex that the staff has affectionately dubbed “Flexy Rexy. by Jody Peters SUN THISWEEK DAKOTA COUNTY TRIBUNE

Dinosaur models. Combs shaped like seahorses. Farmington Tiger buttons. Patrons at the Farmington Library can create all these and more thanks to a new 3-D printer. The library is sharing the printer with two other branches, Inver Glen and Burnhaven. Each branch keeps the printer for three- to four-month spans, then it goes to another branch. Farmington’s turn started Feb. 1. Patrons can use the printer until the end of April, when it will then go to Inver Glen Library.

Once the printer goes to Inver Glen in Inver Grove Heights, that branch’s staff will have a month or so to get acquainted with it, then the public can use it for three months. Then it will move to Burnhaven in Burnsville. By the beginning of next year, the printer will either rotate back to Farmington or Farmington might have a printer of its own by then, according to branch manager Barbara Svoboda. That possibility will depend on the library’s budget, but the printer has gotten frequent use since it arrived, she said. “We’re already seeing enough See PRINTER, 10A

Fiddling and four-leaf clovers Local performers to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by Jody Peters SUN THISWEEK DAKOTA COUNTY TRIBUNE

Though there’s still snow on the ground, Farmington will soon be full of green. A number of events will take place over St. Patrick’s Day weekend, including celebrations at the Rambling River Center and Longbranch Saloon and Eatery. For Farmington resident Mary Vanorny, these events are particularly special not just because they’re close to home, but because she will be part of the festivities. Vanorny will be playing the fiddle at the Rambling River event, and her daughter Claire, a fourth-grader, will be dancing at the Longbranch Saloon event with Rince

na Chroi Irish dancers. The Rambling River event will feature Common Reel, a trio that includes Vanorny, guitarist Paul Garding and flutist Liz Anderson. There will be appetizers like Guinness cheese dip with pretzels, Reuben dip with crackers, green Jell-O cake and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic green beer. There are plenty of St. Patrick’s Day events around the Twin Cities, but the Rambling River Center event is close by, inexpensive and features local performers, according to Recreation Supervisor Missie Kohlbeck. “I mean, it’s really reasonable to come and have appetizers for $5 if you’re a member or even $15 if you’re not — you couldn’t

go anywhere else and have that experience. ‌ It’s really fun because it’s hometown and it’s hometown for the food, too, so all around, a nice event,â€? Kohlbeck said. The event is intended for seniors, but “we wouldn’t kick anybody out if they really wanted to come,â€? Kohlbeck said. Up to 130 people can attend, but preregistration is required.

The ďŹ ddler’s tale One of the performers at the event, Vanorny, has lived in Farmington for 15 years and has been performing as a fiddler since she was about 14 years old, Photo submitted giving her 25-30 years of Farmington resident Mary Vanorny will play the fiddle experience, she said. at Rambling River Center’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration on March 16.
