Flexibility flows in District 192 New school opens its doors in 2014 by Andy Rogers SUN THISWEEK DAKOTA COUNTY TRIBUNE

It’s not every year a district opens a new school, especially one like Gateway Academy. The Farmington School District added the new elementary school in fall 2014 with a focus on customizing its projectbased learning strategies — a trend the district has

been on for a few years but on a smaller scale. Located at the District Instructional Services Center, more than 70 elementary students spend part of the day working on independent projects. Anniversary, accolades highlight school year Rosemount High School building turned 50, students continued to excel in many ways by Tad Johnson SUN THISWEEK DAKOTA COUNTY TRIBUNE

Look into the crowd at a Rosemount High School football game, theater performance or marching band festival and you’ll probably see community members without a son, daughter, or grandchild on the field or stage. The main part of the school building that turned 50 years old this year and the institution that has a nearly 100-year history in Rosemount has a penchant for forging lifelong connections that keep alumni, alumnae and local residents coming back to its events. Those connections were on display Nov. 16 when the school held its 50-year Anniversary Open House and attracted current students and their parents along

with graduates from long ago and local residents. “Rosemount is a special place because of the people who are intertwined with the history of the school and community, said the school’s former principal, Greg Clausen, who now represents the area as a state senator and attended the open house. “Education has always been highly valued by the Rosemount community, making RHS a focal point and symbol of community pride. Whenever there was a need, the school and community banded together to provide support and hope for one another. Clausen knows the meaning of that support as the school community rallied around him after his leukemia diagnosis See SCHOOLS, 7A
