Give Your Mom The Gift Of
Health &Beauty
A wonderful way to express love and gratitude to Mom is with a gift for a big helping of TLC from Ooh La La Anti-Aging and Wellness Center located in Maryville. Of course, there’s nothing more refreshing than a massage and there are many different techniques to try such as Swedish, deep tissue, prenatal, chair, and hot stone. While “fru fru” is fun, discovering the Fountain of Youth is always the goal and Ooh La La offers a wide variety of facials tailored to one’s skin type for a fresh and youthful glow. Four aestheticians are specially trained in microdermabrasion, microcurrent or dermaplaning which rejuvenates the skin from the inside out.
A unique product that Ooh La La has is their state-of-the-art Cutera Laser that will tighten, brighten, glow, smooth, clear, and refresh the skin. It’s extremely versatile and allows the flexibility to customize each treatment to each patient’s skin type. Other laser treatments include:
“I like to use a natural, artistic approach that enhances one’s look without over doing it,” Dr. Jacobs said. “Everyone will notice but no one will know!” She performs all “injectables” like Botox and dermal fillers herself and performs many of the laser procedures as well. Extremely hands on with all other procedures, she is directly involved in every patient’s treatment plan and care.
The LimeLight Facial treats skin redness, tiny veins, brown spots and sun damage. It offers the advantage of improving skin tone and surface imperfections associated with aging and photodamage. It’s ideal for any part of your face, neck and décolleté, back and arms. Ooh La La also has laser hair removal, vein treatments, chemical peels, Latisse for long lashes and physician-grade skin care and makeup lines. They are extremely proud of their comprehensive Medically Supervised Weight Management Program with the use of supplements and HCG where over 800 pounds have been shed since January.
The Pearl is “the one laser treatment to choose” to renew your skin’s surface with quick, visible results. It treats fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, uneven skin texture and sun damage.
The owner of Ooh La La, Kristen M. Jacobs, M.D., is the mother of two boys: Jack, 8, and Mikey, 7. She perfectly understands busy schedules with little downtime. Thus, she is the “go-to” physician when it comes to aesthetic care. Her advanced training, extensive knowledge and personal experience with all of the products and services offered at Ooh La La truly set her apart from the rest.
The Laser Genesis skin rejuvenation therapy is one of the most favorite treatments at Ooh La La. It promotes vibrant and healthy looking skin in both men and women. It treats conditions that are typically associated with premature signs of aging and sun damage, such as excessive redness in rosacea, large pores, uneven texture, acne scarring, and fine lines and wrinkles, to give a more youthful appearance. The Laser Genesis has been scientifically proven to produce new collagen: it has no downtime and minimal discomfort.
Not that you would ever suggest that your mom “looks old,” but while she’s there getting pampered, she might also be interested in a few other services that includes health, wellness and weight loss. Dr. Jacobs is a Board Certified Family Physician dedicated to disease prevention, detection and health promotion. She practices the broadest spectrum of healthcare, offering routine check ups to comprehensive medical care for family members of all ages. Her passion is helping people lead a healthy life and feel beautiful while doing it.

New, Non-Surgical Treatment for Osteoarthritis of the Knee May Provide Same as or Better Relief Than Knee Replacement Surgery Are you one of the many knee pain sufferers who wants to avoid knee replacement surgery? Proven Laser Therapy Stimulates Hair Follicles Perhaps you’ve tried lotions, potions or considered radical or expensive hair replacement techniques. Maybe you’ve just ignored it. But the fact is, you are losing your hair. This condition seriously affects self-esteem, confidence and shapes how the world perceives you. Now is the time to do something about it. The onset of hair loss or hair thinning over the scalp has many possible causes – and just as many high-profile treatment options. While over-the-counter and prescriptive medications dominate the field, Low Level Laser Light Therapy – a technology that has its earliest beginnings in the 1960’s – is on the fast track to take over this hotly competitive health category. Leading the charge in the Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) in the Metro East is New Generation Hair and Skin Center. “Hair loss is an unpleasant reality for 80 million American men and women,” said Heather Heintz, owner of the newly opened center in Swansea. “Most people who are suffering with losing their hair are predisposed to the formation of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which causes the hair follicles to slowly shrink and die. The laser system is like a reboot for the hair follicles. LLLT accelerates hair restoration by stimulating cell metabolism and helping to repair damaged cells.” Every potential client is first treated to a scalp analysis and evaluation, which is necessary to determine if a client is a suitable candidate. The scalp is magnified to see if the follicles are still active, a good indicator of success with LLLT.
LLLT – is a gentle light therapy that stimulates hair follicles to return to a normal growth cycle. The process is: • Non-thermal and non-invasive • For men and women • Safe, easy and all-natural • Results for all hair types “Treatment will begin with a free hair, skin and scalp evaluation,” Heintz said. “The evaluation is necessary to determine if a client is a suitable candidate for Awaken, because hair follicles dormant for more than five years will not respond well to the light therapy.” However, most people with thinning hair, pattern baldness or hair loss associated with change-of-life do respond favorably to the narrow, low-power light frequency employed by the Awaken Laser Therapy devices. During the 12-month hair therapy regimen, clients sit under the illuminated hood for 60 minutes, approximately one per week, then less frequently over the course of the year. “By about four months the treatments will have stimulated hair follicle tissue to resume a normal growth cycle, and clients will notice thicker, healthier hair,” she said. To schedule your free consultation, call Heintz today at (618) 233-5558. New Generation Hair and Skin Center 14 Park Place, Suite B in Swansea. Visit them at www.newgenhair.com or email at info@newgenhair.com.
During the 12-month hair therapy regimen, clients sit under the illuminated hood for 60 minutes a week, then less frequently over the course of a year. The average client sees results in approximately four to six months.

‘ Whole Health’
Treating Your
Is The Goal Of Local Chiropractor
Situated along the country road of Town Hall Road in Belleville is the serene setting of Stillpointe – a place offering a multitude of healing arts. This is the perfect site for Dr. Amanda Buffington’s office where patients seek help for many conditions including: migraines; plantar fascitis (foot pain); IBS; constipation; dysmenorrhea (painful periods); sciatica; low back, mid-back, neck pain; fatigue; ringing in ears; fibromyalgia; chronic fatigue; and weight issues. Recently, Buffington has added her new Weight Loss University to her menu of services. “I see so many patients doing the yo-yo dieting, she said. “Many are using food for something that’s missing in their lives. I work with each patient one on one to find that underlying issue to help them find and maintain a healthier weight. The program also includes a supplemental exercise program, the WLU Three-Month Program manual, cholesterol screenings and a hands-on session on how to shop for foods at the grocery store. “I designed this with a family member in mind, so WLU is very personal to her. “We have different options, too. Each program is completely custom designed – one uses HCG and one does not.
“HCG is such a hot topic and at first I thought, ‘no way.’ But then I see people dropping 20, 30 pounds and I can’t ignore the benefits. I have structured my program though so that people who need more calories can have them. And we only have a restricted diet in the beginning of the three-month program. We gradually add the calories back in so that people learn how to eat a healthy diet, she said. “You know the body is a very intricate system and I have the education to enable me to help people who need balance, Buffington said. Dr. Buffington received her education from Logan College of Chiropractic and went on for further education to become certified in Applied Kinesiology, Chiropractic Plus Kinesiology, Equine Sports Massage Therapy, and Fellow Acupuncture Society of America certification. She also has specialized training with Dr. Janet Lang in nutrition focusing in Female Hormone Balancing and reading tissue hair mineral analysis. Whole Health Chiropractic is located at 2135 Dorothy Drive, Belleville, just off Town Hall Road west of Frank Scott Parkway; (618) 222-4000; www.dramandawhc.com.

Looking For A Special Program To Help Your Child? means! Vision is a complex process that involves over 20 visual abilities and more than 65 percent of all the pathways to the brain. The good news is, once the vision problem is detected, it is usually fully correctable.
If you have a child who is struggling with reading or learning, it is important to understand that children usually won’t tell you if they are having trouble seeing the letters on the page. They think everyone sees the same way they do – and they are just the stupid ones who can’t make any sense out of what they are seeing. It is vital that all parents and educators become familiar with the symptoms of vision problems that interfere with learning: • headaches when reading • slow or incomplete copy work from board or paper • avoidance of reading • poor reading comprehension • frequent loss of place while reading • complains words move on the page • short attention span • smart in everything but school • labeled ADD, ADHD, dyslexic • working below potential According to Dr. Tom Unger of Troy, “When the doctor says your child can see “20/20,â€? that means that he or she is able to see a certain size letter at a distance of 20 feet - but that’s all it
Your child could start the next school year ready to succeed, if their vision problem is treated over the summer. Please call Unger Eye Care to schedule a Developmental eye exam today to test your child’s visual skills.
To schedule an appointment or for more information on the critical link between vision and learning, Dr. Unger can be contacted at: 618-667-2020 or visit his website at www.readingandvision.com.

Timely Book Debuts! Features Helpful Tips To Balance Marriage and Business
I
n these uncertain economic times, many people are considering starting a business – and they often look to their spouse for help as a business partner. This timely, witty book offers sound advice to help and encourage couples in business together. A 2004 statistic quoted experts who agreed that couples who both focus full time on their company have poor odds of making a go of it. This is, in fact, true for all small business partnerships, no matter who owns them. As husband-and-wife teams become more business savvy and more willing to reach out for additional help, their odds dramatically improve. “Soulmate Proprietors, How To Run A Business With Your Spouse And STAY Married” (www.soulmateproprietors.com) points out the joy, the triumph, the sense of accomplishment and the unbreakable bond that can bring couples closer during any situation, not just the tough economic ones. The author, Danelle Brown, is a career business coach and marketing consultant (www.queenbeeconsulting.com) who has run an independent IT consulting company with her spouse for 13 years. Based on the positive feedback she received from her public speaking, blog postings and coaching, she realized she had information other people value.

This book addresses the issues every couple wants and needs to know, plus a few extra. The book handles such topics as: • defining roles • dealing with stressful times • remembering the importance of intimacy, and how to find time for it • balancing children and family with the business • discovering the fringe benefits of working together The content, quotes and anecdotes are extremely candid; nothing is sugar coated regarding the challenges to working with a spouse. Overall, however, the book’s tone is optimistic and “can do.” Included are many interviewed couples’ observations, comments, tips and advice that illustrate a broad range of experiences, challenges and – best of all – solutions. For more information, contact Danelle Brown at (618) 530-7166; dbrown@queenbeeconsulting.com.

Pets Receive “LaBest Care at Well-Respected Facility Tucked away in a comfortable neighborhood near Edwardsville is a delightful haven for dogs and cats called LaBest Inc. The facility offers obedience classes, doggie day care, grooming and boarding: a one-stop shop for pet owners. LaBest also provides DogWatch Hidden Fence Systems with professional installation and training. “We have been here for over 40 years now, said Julia Whitehead, granddaughter of LaBest founders and daughter of the current owner Deborah Walker. As one of the leading animal care facilities in Illinois, LaBest concentrates on their quality service and invites anyone to stop in at anytime for a free tour. Deborah Walker started training pets at a very young age and is a Certified Pet Trainer and a Pet Behavioral Specialist. She is well known for her knowledge in the animal service industry.

pet to the facility or schedule an appointment for Walker to visit their home. While training and obedience classes are a large part of LaBest, their doggie day care is a perfect way for your pet to burn excess energy while you work. Doggie Day Care is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Many different packages for grooming are available with professional pet stylists. The facility also has LaBest Academy of Animal Arts where students are actually trained and certified to become professional pet cosmetologists – a growing career field. The academy is in need of dogs, many different breeds and hair textures, for their students. Customers can receive a 50 percent discount on the grooming fee if the dog qualifies. #1 Again! New Elements Keep Fair Fresh, Exciting
W
ow! Once again Belleville's Art on the Square received another #1 ranking by Art Fair Source Book in 2011. This highly regarded art fair publication considered over 600 art shows from the thousands held every year and placed Art on the Square at the very top. Beginning in 2002, Art on the Square quickly established itself as an up and coming new show. In 2004, it was named the Best Small Town Art Fair in America and by 2006 it was ranked in the top 10 of all shows in the country with much older art fairs from very large metropolitan areas. In 2008, Art on the Square was #1 in the nation for the first time.
Keys to its success are the new and exciting features added to the three-day weekend every year. This year, professional interior designers from the metro area will demonstrate how to use art in your home in collaboration with artists from the 2011 Art on the Square Show. Demonstrations on the Art and Design Stage are 30 to 40 minutes followed by Q. and A. Friday, May 13, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.: “Using the Color Wheel” - How to compliment your art work with your walls and furnishings. Saturday, May 14, 11 a.m. to noon: “Shine Some Light on the Subject” - How to display and showcase your artwork through lighting techniques.
Saturday, May 14, 2 to 3 p.m.: “Mix It Up”Mixing traditional and contemporary work in your home.” Saturday, May 14, 5 to 6 p.m.: “I Loved It, I Bought It, Now What Do I Do With It?” Using unusual pieces in your home. Sunday, May 15, noon to 1 p.m.: “Framing and Matting” - How to decide on frames, where to hang, how to group pictures, matting ideas. Grilled, Complete Meal Delivered To Your Door
Y
ou might say Michelle Kernan grew up in the Steak-Out business. Starting at the age of 16 as a phone order taker at the Swansea/Belleville Steak-Out location, she is now the owner of her very own business in Collinsville. Learning all the facets of the steak house delivery franchise from her then boss, Angie Johnson, Kernan certainly knows her product. In fact, Johnson was her partner in the Collinsville store until Kernan was ready to handle it alone. Steak-Out is truly a unique dining concept with locations in 10 different states. “There’s really nothing out there like us,” said Kernan. “We’re the only place to turn to when you want a hot, complete meal delivered straight to your door. And we take pride in the fact that we can do that for you.” With schedules the way they are today, it can be a burden to prepare a full meal even though that’s exactly what your family wants… and needs.“Just leave the grilling to us,” she said.
All of the steaks served are 100% grain-fed USDA graded American beef. Whichever cut you order - rib eye, sirloin steak, T-Bone or something else – you can be certain it’s going to be top quality. If beef isn’t to your liking, Steak-Out can apply their fire-grilling expertise to chicken breast, shrimp, salmon, swordfish, and a host of grilled sandwiches. Many side items including salads are available as well. A Kids’ menu is offered. “Catering is a large part of our business, too,”Kernan said.“We will deliver out of our delivery area including St. Louis. We often provide lunch to large offices – just today we served 58 people – and offices on the go like an emergency room staff.” Steak-Out can cater to any size group, both big and small. They can set up your steakhouse quality spread and bring everything you need to serve it, from chaffing dishes to serving utensils - they can even bring the grill. The Collinsville location also delivers gourmet cookies and balloons from their store. Visit that web site at www.sweettreatdelivery.com. Marketplace Magazine

Spring GardeningTips Don’t Be Too Impatient
I
f you are like the staff of St. Louis Composting, you can't wait to get back in the garden, and Spring can’t come too soon. But don't get too impatient and start doing your outdoor gardening tasks when the soil and lawn are both soft and muddy: you're better off to wait until things dry up a bit.
Here are some tips to get you started and be ready for those longer, beautiful days and the eternally great time of year - Springtime!
Around the yard:
• Start winter cleanup of the lawn when the grass is no longer sopping wet and planting beds are not a sea of mud. • Rake your lawn to get rid of dead growth and winter debris to let light and air to the soil level, encouraging the grass to grow. Consider top-dressing your lawn. The dark rich color of St. Louis Composting’s Field and Turf Compost will help increase soil temperature sooner and promote seed germination. • Re-seed bare or damaged patches of lawn. Scratch up the soil with a rake first. Mix a shovel of Field and Turf Enhancer Compost with a couple of scoops of grass seed and spread in the patch you're fixing. Rake level and keep well-watered until seeds germinate and the new grass establishes.
• Remove tree guards or burlap winter protection from any young trees or shrubs. Try not to leave tree guards in place over the summer. They keep rabbits and mice from nibbling on tender bark over the winter, but trees don't need them in summer. They don't allow enough air movement around the base of the trunk and that can promote rot of the bark. A properly applied mulch ring will promote healthy roots and will allow for healthier soil. • Transplant any existing shrubs you want to move before they begin to leaf out. When transplanting add Black Gold Compost to the backfill soil to promote healthier intricate root systems • Get your lawn mowers checked and blades sharpened if you didn't get the job done in late winter. Also clean and repair all garden tools that sat during the winter. Sharp blades cut better and leave your lawn and garden healthier. Also, don’t forget to rent the EcoLawn Topdresser from St. Louis Composting to do your Spring topdressing.
In the flower garden:
• Don't be in a rush to remove winter mulch or to cut back evergreen plants such as lavender until temperatures are reliably warm. • Remove winter protection of mounded earth from roses. Prune rose bushes before they start to leaf out. Add a generous helping of Black
Forest Mulch to help control weeds and conserve moisture throughout the growing season. • Getting on top of the weeding and pruning now means a lot less work later. Weeds start growing vigorously early, so when you spot them, go to it because they are easier to pull out while their roots are still shallow in early spring. Check trees for any winter damage and prune any damaged branches caused from ice and snow in the winter. • Cut back the previous season's dead plant material. Clean up old perennial foliage from last season (trimmings can be brought to St. Louis Composting – see locations below - or added to your backyard compost pile). Cut back ornamental grasses. • Resist the urge to start digging in your flower beds too early. You can damage the soil's structure. If you pick up a handful of soil, it should fall apart, not stick together like glue. When it's dry enough, you can start to dig beds and add Black Gold Compost in preparation for planting. • When the time is right, be sure to join the sustainable living movement and get hands-on with a heaping helping of compost this Spring! To learn more, call St. Louis Composting at 636-861-3344 or key (www.stlcompost.com). St. Louis Composting is the largest composter in the St. Louis region. New Kitchen & Bath Showroom Highlights The Craftsmanship Of Quality Cabinetry
“This company is really a one-stop shopping experience to complete every phase of your project.”
N
ewly founded Kitchen and Bath Concepts is tucked inside the timehonored company of Aviston Lumber in Highland and showcases the formidable talents of kitchen and bath designer Kelly Daley with several fantastic room displays. As the founder of Kitchen and Bath Concepts, Daley is known for her straightforward, determined and creative approach. “I listen to my client’s goal and budget, and get a grasp of their style and then suggest products that work with their lifestyle and price range,” she said. “And I can lead them through every aspect of the design process from start to finish.” After 14 years in the restaurant industry, she received “real-life” experience in the importance of kitchen functionality. In fact, the shop’s tagline is “Where form meets function.” Daley suggests starting a kitchen project by thinking about how you’re going to use it: are you a gourmet cook, do you entertain, can you barely start the microwave? “It has to be designed so the client can get the most enjoyment from it.” As a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association, Daley is always up-to-date on materials including cabinetry for any room. She is currently just a few educational hours away from sitting for the two-part exam to become a Certified Kitchen Designer of which there are only 900 nationally. "In order to sit for this exam, you must have 60 hours of NKBA educational hours and at least seven years industry experience," she said. Kitchen and Bath Concepts is a partner of Aviston Lumber Co. - a respected name in the building materials industry for 60 years - and a dealer of premier cabinetry throughout the home.
Together they believe that cabinets:
• Should be distinct. No cabinetry project should be identical, because no two homes are identical.
• Should be used in every area of your home - not just your kitchen or bathroom. Cabinets add elegance and practicality to any room. • Should be customized to fit your lifestyle and design aspirations. We collaborate with you to find the perfect match for your home. • Should be sold by qualified experts. Unlike home supply store chains, all of our qualified, professional staff members have been in the industry for years and have a background in design.
Services offered are:
• New construction for kitchen and baths. • Bathroom upgrades and full renovations. • Kitchen upgrades and full renovations. • Construction and design of entertainment centers, home offices, bars, custom closets, mud rooms and laundry rooms, bookcases, mantels. • Complete installation performed by preferred local industry professionals. “This company is really a one-stop shopping experience to complete every phase of your project,” Daley said. Kitchen and Bath Concepts by Aviston Lumber Co. has a reputation for providing exceptional service and design, and for being a respected name in the area. “We like to be involved within the community and within our industry,” Daley said. “I am really proud to say that we are a level one supporter of the Highland Arts Council, and a member of the Highland Chamber of Commerce.” The company has also received an “A” rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Keeping Customers Comfortable In Their Homes For Over 20 Years Temperatures are pretty wacky in the Midwest and when you get a sudden drop or fluctuation, you want that heating or air conditioning equipment to work! Maintaining a home or business is a large task when combined with busy schedules, appointments and daily agendas. Viviano Heating and Air Conditioning offers a solution to ensuring that you can go from heat to cool and back to heat in a week without problems.
and their numerous awards from the demanding standards of North American Technician Excellence (NATE). NATE is the leading nonprofit certification program for technicians in the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) industry and is the only test supported by the entire industry. “Their testing is rigorous,” said Viviano, “and all of our technicians, including myself, are certified by NATE. We also have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.” Viviano has also received excellent customer ratings based on follow-up surveys by Trane.
The Maintenance Membership Agreement provides a twice-yearly inspection of your comfort system, priority service, and discounts on future repairs – for just one annual fee.
The company is now training technicians in the new Connectivity Thermostats that hooks up to the internet where the homeowner can control everything like the thermostat, alarm, lights, “It’s amazing stuff – you can control all this from your phone! We have received tons of training on this.”
“It’s just like changing the oil in your car,” said Don Viviano, owner. “We send a reminder postcard to make it easier for everyone and we are open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and up to 6 p.m. during the week at normal rates. This helps the customer coming home from work – as long as we get the call before 6, we will charge our standard rate.”
Of course, they can provide ground source heating systems, tankless water heaters and several safety products from MasterGuard.
Located in downtown Collinsville on Main Street, Viviano Heating and Air Conditioning is a local, family owned business servicing the area since 1989. They pride themselves on their continuing education

New Countertops And Cabinets Installed In Just One Day!
I
f you are like most homeowners, the thought of taking on a kitchen or bath remodeling project can be overwhelming. You know that updating these two rooms bring the most value to your home, but where do you start? A quick trip to a home improvement store creates more questions than answers. The expertise and service you were searching for falls short. After a visit to the “high-end” kitchen retailer, you realize that high-end could mean higher costs and possible inconvenience. Fortunately, there is a better way. With the advances in technology, superior products are available that allow you to remodel your kitchen or bath without going through the mess and inconvenience of traditional tear out remodeling. A complete kitchen or bath makeover can provide new custom counters, backsplashes, shower walls and cabinet fronts in a few days. The update is completed without demolition saving your home from being filled with mess and dust. This is possible through companies that specialize in quality countertop, cabinet, and wall surface refacing – an innovative approach that cuts cost and saves time while providing cutting edge products. Beginning in the kitchen, gorgeous new granite or recycled glass slabs can be installed directly over your existing countertops. The slabs are ¼-inch thick and completely wrap and cover the old countertop. The new overlay granite and glass tops are heat, stain, scratch resistant and maintenance free (no sealing required). Unlike ordinary granite, these slabs have a lifetime warranty against chipping or cracking – quite simply the most durable high-end surface available. Next, a custom Italian glass mosaic backsplash can be installed. Your
kitchen now has the updated look showcased on HGTV! Tired cabinets? A fresh set of doors with matching trim can be installed to your existing cabinets. Change your color and style in just a few days, and at a fraction of the cost of traditional remodeling. Turn your bathroom into the spa of your dreams. New vanity tops with coordinated shower walls and bathtub surrounds can be installed over existing tile. Custom Italian glass mosaic accents can be added providing the perfect touch to your new private oasis. Chipped or discolored bathtub or shower pan? A fresh, new acrylic liner can be installed directly over the old tub or pan providing an easy cleaning surface while avoiding tear out and expensive plumbing work. Pick out an updated vanity sink and faucet, and your project is complete. In today’s economic climate, it is important to maximize and retain your home investment with a quality kitchen and bathroom remodel.Take advantage of the technically superior products available today. Only durable, fully warranteed granite and glass surfaces that do not require to be sealed provide the value that smart homeowners and savvy homebuyers require. For more information on quality, no-demolition remodeling visit Granite Transformations website at www.granitetransformations.com/stlouis. Call to schedule a free in-home consultation with a qualified Design Consultant - 636.728.1100.
